Gross 89 for 38 points off 20 (19.5) in Druids Heath this morning!
Had 2 birdies, 3 pars, 7 bogies and 6 doubles. Placing everywhere and bunkers in play.

Played first round off my new handicap of 24 yesterday, 12pts front 9, 19pts back 9 in Blarney. Didn't feel I particularly played that well but some short game things I have been working on came together a bit.

The day was windy and caused a few major misjudgements, put a PW downwind about 15yards past my 133yard target and going Out of Bounds over the green.

Still always good to get out:D

Shark!!! That 31 will be closer to a 41 on Saturday :)

I might have to go to the forum feedback thread....but are moderators allowed to blatantly lie about how far they hit a PW... :D

Well kiers47 will tell you I hit one 190yards one day in Dundrum, mad stuff, pity it was my 3rd shot on a Par 4!!!

Hopefully I can get something going Sat, but my society handicap is 22 so at least you shouldn't be doing much giving out!

Had my best round in a good while yesterday. Driving was straight enough, approach shots were ok and on most holes my putting was good - sunk a lot of putts from 8 foot in but I had 3 x 3 putts and one damm 4 putt (landed on back of large green, 2 tier slope to pin at front, total nightmare of a green!!)

    Had:
    7 pars
    4 bogeys
    7 doubles or worse

Managed to Par index 1 and missed par putts on indexes 2,3 & 4

    Was happy out overall though.

Is that the hole with the lake running up the left hand side as you tee off? I think it's the 7th?

No, the 4th. Come to think of it - every green has a few tiers and slopes all over the place!!!

7th is a tough narrow drive.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 20,632 ✭✭✭✭Rikand

Yeah, thought it was the 4th alright. As if the teeshot wasnt hard enough, straight up hill into a narrow landing area, you then have a second shot which you hit over a valley onto a green with 3 STEEP tiers and if you miss either side of the green you're in a world of pain aswell.

Take bogey there and thank your lucky stars you got away with one

To be fair as was stated later in the round it was at least a 7 club wind!!

It was probably the windiest i ever played in. On the 1st i hit a full 9iron from about 100 yards into the wind pin high!! I normally hit my 9 about 135ish. Was fairly tough stuff.

+4 gross in open comp in Rathsallagh on Saturday.

    14 greens :)
    36 putts

Putter somehow remains intact, but no long term promises.

    gee thanks for your honesty.

i have shot close to it in athlone (& other courses) and have told numerous staff members to which i was told not to bother as they were not scored in competitions.

I've always been honest with my scores and post the high ones with the low ones.

86 shots for 37 points off 15 in Castlemartyr today off the blues. Great day for it and it was good to string abit of a round together.

I butchered the par 3's three putting them all ! I played these 4 holes in 7 over and the other 14 holes in 7 over !

Qualifying yet for the Tuesday Blues? You reckon you have a chance?

    Great score.

    Great score.

Bunkers out of play and placing everywhere so not qualifying.

I didn't go into any bunker and there was no need to place on the fairways they were so firm. Rough was probably abit soft alright - I wouldn't be certain though would have to check with my playing partner !! :D

I doubt I have a chance - maybe if I didn't mess up the par 3's ? Probably another one that will leave me going over all the shots I left out there and thinking what if ...

Hi all great thread. Play my golf in Enniscrone, Co. Sligo.
Played in a competition Saturday, 32 points, made a complete hash of the back 9.
I scratched the first hole, then had 6 par's in a row, bogeyed the 8th and par's the 9th, and it went downhill after that.
Currently off 11, trying to get down, but it's tough.

Hey folks, I'm hopefully going to be posting in here more as I'm just getting back into the game after a 6 year absence. Have just sent off my 3 cards to Templemore to get a handicap (distance membership).

Played Old Conna today, had an 86 which I was happy with. Other cards were 90 and 94, so hopefully get a handicap of roughly 18. Hoping for a long and successful summer.

Based on the Old Conna score you are looking at a handicap of 14- Par 72 SSS 72

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 849 ✭✭✭ballyk

25 points over 13 holes in the Spring league at Ballykisteen on Sunday.

A score like this shows potential and especially for a player away from the game for a while.

Started so well with 18 points on the front in Woodstock but double bogey on 10,11 and 12 really hurt. Finished with a woeful 9 points on the back! Thought I played better than that. Oh well....I'll keep playing for a little while longer!

Played Gort today. First round in 5 weeks. 88 shots. Not competition but placing on fairway & drop in rough. Well pleased with 32 points. Distance judgement (normally a strength) really difficult in v.cold conditions. All that carpet putting really helped !
