Quite Rojomcdojo, however you will not have long to wait before you will be told of the oppressive uncaring attitude of greater Irish society towards employing such folk.

As for the Condoms....Well,possibly you will also be made aware of the very strong traditional bonds of Catholic Moral Teaching which govern their society, such teachings having long-since been abandoned by the rest of Irish society, for better or worse .

Wonder what started the fire. Was it always burning since the world's been turning? If they didn't light it we they trying to fight it?

The intent appears to revolve around making those who have issues with this particular housing policy appear to be against the greater mass of society also....does'nt wash with me though.

Is this previous poster implying that these people are unclean? I detect a hint of sarcasm or racism towards our indigenous, nomadic brethren!

On mature reflection, I have decided to re-phrase the offending statement,as although an old man,I am clean !

I demur at this "seems obvious" bit.

Charlemont's inclusion of a rather graphic photo, kinda removed any "confusion" I might have felt as to the intended target of the cnuts reference.

But it's all about perception I suppose ?

Are you implying that he was attempting through that photo to link a family in donegal directly with criminal activity in Cork and also to brand a whole community as cúnts? If he was I suggest he go up to John Joe Nevin and tell him he's a cúnt for representing Ireland so proudly in the Olympics!

As another poster already pointed out-

And there are plenty of five bedroom houses dotted around the country that can be bought for a lot less than a quarter of a million euro.

You'd imagine the people for whom the house was intended wouldn't have a problem with relocating to another part of the country to avail of cheaper social housing.

And those other 5 beds would be suited to their needs in the same way as this was I suppose there were 13 of them after all, so they would require quite a large house.

No I'm not,but I suspect thats reasonably obvious,as was Charlemonts OP.

The John Joe Nevin reference is irrelevant other than if attempting to drag the thread off on a tangent...

Seeing as there are 13 in this family, it is quite probable that over the years they have been offered, have accepted and then resided in other suitable accommodation for their needs.

I wonder what happened to those properties?

We got dragged off on a tangent when people started calling others cúnts and implying they were criminals.

the story is about social housing, and he refferred to family in reciept of it as cúnts, so it seems obvious the he feels that people who avail of social housing are cúnts.
I cant see what else he could have meant.

Yea Your totally right, I think everyone looking for a council house is a cúnt.
SHH Don't tell Wiley I'm on the housing list.

What else could I possibly have meant but sure thankfully we have WileyCoyote here to point it out...

Tell us please Wiley, How many council tenants get a house bought for them at a cost of €230000 ?

BTW I don't agree with the councillors view or the burning of the house. Travellers do take the piss not all of them but a sizeable amount of them and we all know it whether its politically correct to say or not.

What the point in working anymore???

Sure il make a few babies and get myself a nice big house from the council and pay buttons in rent.

Its a slap in the face to decent hard working folk who have big mortgages.

Yeah but the bleeding heart gang don't give a fcuk about you, they are too interested in standing up for the rights of the few who have little....what a joke.

People in this kip of a country are committing suicide day in day out because they cannot see a way out of the debt they are in..where is their support.

Strange - The OP details an arson attack on a council property, but its hardly been mentioned by anyone in subsequent posts.

I have a problem with this "decent hard working" part...

Just because someone works hard does not mean they are "decent". So just because someone works hard makes them a better human being than their fellow man ?.

Everyone has a choice in life, and whether they take the left fork in the road or the right, it shouldn't make them any less human and decent. imo.

It's the system we live in that allows anyone to choose what they want to do.

Whatever way you spin it Bang Goes The Neighbourhood. I pity the people who own their own houses in that neighbourhood. A family of 13 is going to destroy the place. 13 under 1 roof, thats before the constant stream of 'visitors'. Then you have the transit vans, the screaming matches and I'm not even gonna start with the other stereotypical traits of our nomadic brethren. Stereotypes exist for a reason.

I hope the people who did this go to prison. Most Corporation or Council houses are still worth approximately the same amount 200k correct ?

Somebody has already destroyed the place - they burnt it down.

Whether they are Traveler or settled has nothing to do with it.

The big question I'd be interested in : Was it a nice law abiding, fallen on hard times, quite family they were planning on moving into the house, or was it some family with a history of anti social behavior and a string of criminal convictions ?, but I'd say the local community knew well who was earmarked for that house.

The house burning was totally wrong, but honestly, if it was for some family with a history of anti social behavior and a string of criminal convictions (and we don't know) who would want the council to move them in next door ?, regardless if they were a settled or traveller family. If you ever tried to sell your own house, it would now be worth next to nothing.

The Council obviously didn't do their homework too carefully with regards to location, or bother taking the local community's feelings into consideration. What a waste of taxpayers money yet again.

I wonder did the council have the house properly insured, and even if they did, they will only get the rebuilding costs back for us taxpayers.

I'm going to be Devil's advocate and put forward the idea that they didn't burn it themselves. God knows what happened.

It's a sickener if they did they but you can't punish 13 children either. It's hard to know what to do, we'll have to wait to see if further investigation shows anything.

I don't think anyone was suggesting they did set the fire themselves. If it was deliberate surely a local would be a more likely suspect?
