The basic version on the Futuremark site is done a little weirdly. There are a list of mirrors for it to the right of where you click to download it through Steam.

My score is lower then Eboggles 7950

    ICESTORM: 161324
    Cloud Gate: 17987
    Fire strike 6409

    http://www.3dmark.com/3dm/100399

Core clock 810Mhz. I wonder why is it so low? Full load it should be going 1050mhz

It takes a reading at the end of the test for that specs page, my card does the same and it actually runs the test at 1202 (its full boost clock)

    Cloud Gate: 5605
    Fire strike 1686

Though mine is more of a media centre than anything else!

Well. gtx680 overclocked had to score more then 7950 overclocked. So more then likely there are two resons for my low score: Eboggles 7950 is just a monster bastard out of Hell or 3dmark is quite unbalanced for Nvidia cards.

For example i did the Catzilla benchmark and there are no 7950 even near my score.

Update your drivers? TBH 3DMark is actually a bit (note: a bit) faster on Nvidia cards, so my bet is that whatever set of drivers you're on aren't working properly with it.

Dunno deano posted a firestrike score of 6700 plus for a GTX 680 lightning @ 1200mhz in the overclocking forum so shadows score looks reasonably consistent with that.

The AMD cards do seem to score better on the graphics part of the firestrike DX 11 test from what I have seen, but we'll see when some of the tech sites start benching on uniform rigs.

    There's a dedicated thread for this here;

    http://www.boards.ie/vbulletin/showthread.php?t=2056873441

Would be better if people posted their scores there so we can compare.

I hate the coil whine induced on my 7950 when I run 3D mark :/ I will throw up some scores later if I get a chance.

Btw, does anyone have the Sapphire 950mhz 7950 edition (I think you may, Bloodbath, since you recommended me get that card). Does yours have a kind of light scrape sound around 40-50% fan speed? I read a comment online about this and realised I had the same thing. In addition, it seems that if put pressure on the shroud, lifting it upwards slightly, the scraping stops. When I release the pressure it begins again. Would the fans or swim thing be..."loose".

Woops, longer comment than I had meant to post, sorry if I hijacked the thread :/

It's an off-topic thread. No such thing as hijacking. ;)

Just saw that - I thought it was the benchmarking one actually :D

I wonder if something on-topic might be considered off-topic in an off-topic thread :D:D
Thanks for help in advance though.

Most likely my friend will need a new motherboard but on the odd chance could I get windows 8 working with this motherboard?

    http://www.gigabyte.com/products/product-page.aspx?pid=3967#ov

Im sure windows 8 upgrade assistant will tell me but I cant use that right now

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 6,922 ✭✭✭Wossack

    I couldnt imagine why not

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 55,723 ✭✭✭✭Headshot

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 6,922 ✭✭✭Wossack

it looks like its good for windows 7 - which I believe (open to correction) is a good sign for windows 8

That's being fairly optimistic, don't you think? :P

    =-=

Also, does anyone know how to fnd the current clock speed of your gfx card? My 4870 is factory overclocked, and when I tried to overclock my CPU from 2.8 to 3.5 I set the speed to none-overclock speed that I had found on a website, and nearly borked it :(

Xbox, stating that talk of a 1.6Ghz eight-core AMD CPU and a D3D11.x 800MHz graphics solution were true. They also mentioned 8GB of DDR3. and 8GB of DDR3 RAM.

That would be very good for PC gamers because it should mean less crappy ports .

Maybe, just maybe, a 4770K might be a valid option for gamers six months from now.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 10,299 ✭✭✭✭BloodBath

Urggh a new socket for those. That sucks :(

I heard they are releasing 8 and 12 core chips in Q4 this year as well.

That 4770k will hardly be much better than a 3770k will it?

Still time to buy AMD shares at a low €2.50. It was €1.80. There's still good value there.

Surely all 3 next gen consoles using amd processors and graphics will bump their share value back to at least the €10 region in a year or 2 from now.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 7,181 ✭✭✭Serephucus

No. Most predictions indicate between 10-15% improvement. I more meant that the 4770K might be a better alternative to the 4570K. The only reason I didn't say 37/35 is because the new consoles won't hit until later this year. Then there's the obligatory three months for devs to actually get comfortable coding for the PS4, etc.

I dont think it will take that long for devs as the architecture of the new consoles isnt brand new and i know for a fact SquareEnix have been working on a next gen game/games since early 2011

its not like the ps3 where sony had the genius idea of introducing the cell processor, new media format with a slow drive, gimping the ram and then brilliantly not letting devs get access to tools and system information that first party devs had.

PC has been bluescreening for 2 weeks now with google chrome constantly crashing as well as any other browser

Tried reinstalling windows 7 twice and using the original drivers
    Tried using a different monitor
    Have updated all my drivers
Tried taking out my graphics card

Ran a memory test which detected hardware problems so will work on that tomorrow
    Need to clean the hardware

    Any further suggestions?

Can get lucky with bluescreenview telling you the causes sometimes. Memorys probably all it is.
