Can't find a link as I just heard it on the news.

A 22 year old was arrested after attempting to rob a house belonging to a man in his 50's in the Glencar area of Donegal.

The homeowner defended himself with a golf club & managed to detain the burglar until Gardai arrived. The burglar was brought to hospital & arrested upon his discharge.

Fair play to the homeowner & afaik this is the first case that has come to public attention of a would be thief getting a hiding after entering someones property since the new laws were introduced.

We should all join Golf clubs to learn how to defend ourselves...

The home owner deserves a commendation. Fcuking scumbags think they can get away with anything. Pity he didn't maim the bastard.

Just got a pick axe handle yesterday. Beside the bed now, just added a wrist strap.
Have to say for €8 its a mighty handy thing, I'd say it would dish out justice very well.

Ditto. As your scum rarely travel alone he could have been set upon himself.

Yep fair play I reckon. You cross someone's threshold with intent you deserve what you get IMH. No doubt the media bed wetters will be out in force to condemn the owner, and across the divide the rabid calling for birching of the scum. My worry is how this stuff could escalate and how innocent people might end up injured or dead.

Hopefully it was a 7 iron, you get a better contact area for batein someone with that than with any other club.

I hope he went for a punch shot rather than a flop.

Lots of isolated homes, close to the border so some can hop across making it harder to catch them. A lot of the border counties have this problem, but it's a rising problem for all of rural Ireland.

I've nothing to offer except mention of The PC Brigade and passionate descriptions of violent scenarios.

    Please thank my post wildly.

Yup ya bhoya !!!! I hope he bet 7 colors of sh1t out of the little hoor...

As someone who was broken into 4 days before Christmas this year.. I love to see these vermin get what's coming to them.

I just hope the homeowner doesn't face any repercussions from the scummer's chronies now.

Because there's no longer any point in calling the police, I hear they have to come up from Dublin on the bus these days to attend a call, and only during the hours of 9-5 due to the overtime ban....

Usual stuff from the paper as well, the scumbag was on bail following vicious attack in the town previously. Whats the betting he is out on bail again after this

Was half expecting the details to say it was the homeowner that got arrested.

That's how much faith I now have in our justice system.

Fair way play to the homeowner.

That poor guy he beat up. He was just trying to make a living as he was obviously on hard times, no need to batter him with a golf club.

Oh wait, he broke into his property to steal and violate the owner's living space? Dirty scummer deserved it :pac:

The guy broke into his house, not his golf club. :pac:

"The man, who is in his early 20s and known to Gardai"

Love that phrase, the nice way the newspapers can call him a scumbag :D

Can he ask for compensation I wonder? Scummer broke in and caused his club to sustain damage after all.

OK well I'm from Glencar so please don't refer to it as 'scummy'. And while it has a few bad estates, it isn't the dodgiest place in Letterkenny. I lived in a quiet wee estate where there was never any bother, and we lived right beside what would be considered a 'scummy' area.

On topic, golfing isn't really popular in the area (the golf course is on the other side of town basically) so I'd say this burglar picked the wrong man to fúck with. Fair play to the man for sorting out the burglar

Hid the home owner "fore" warn him before teeing off on that beating
