Country back roads lethal this morning, was heading for Clonbullogue to do a little loop and had to turn back for home, bike was all over the place.

Main road back towards Newbridge was better but hadn't been salted.

Black ice also up on military road. Was very surprised actualy, with the wind and the warm temps we've had the last few days I did not expect it. Luckily it was going up hill.

Yeah, no frost on grass or cars here, when I got the first slip from my back wheel I thought it must have been oil on the road, but 50 meters further on there was ice in the puddles.

Lads just thought I'd mention a site I use to remind me if the temperature's going to drop below zero for the next day, might be useful to some of you especially when you get a few warm days and you're not expecting a cold one

    https://ifttt.com

You use "Recipes" you create yourself - i.e. workflows - so I have it set up so that if the temp drops below zero the next day send an email from my GMAIL to my work mail, for example.

    Great little tool

Glorious morning cycling from Ashbourne to UCD, despite the wind. Nearly considered folding down the arm and leg warmers at one stage!

Plenty of lumping head wind from Lusk to City this morning. Otherwise fine (no ice) and my new raceblades took care of any puddles and mucky roads :) Why did I never fit these things earlier Ill never know.

The wife had a day off work today so no childminder drop of duties this morning. Got out and did a 55.5km spin. Very happy with myself. Windy and some glints of frost but was fine

I thought that's standard up there this time of year? Drove from Laragh to Sally Gap last Sunday and it was amazing how the road conditions deteriorated as I approached SG. From SG on - towards Glencree - it looked impassable so I dodged right towards Lough Tae.

Some very nasty spots this morn around NCD. Myself,RobFowl and 2 others stuck to the coast as back roads were not trustworthy and got reports of a pile up but need confirmation.

Bit icy around the blessington lakes. Two of the lads from the club came off coming down a bit of a hill there this morning

Got it into my head that I wanted to go up Sally Gap from Kilbride as I had a rare Saturday in Dublin.

    Slippy in the park.
Over Saggart hill and down to Brittas was fine.
Turned off main road for Sally Gap at the golf club past Brittas.
Road from there to Manor Kilbride had thick ice in some patches and frost everywhere else.

Met an old guy on a beater bike and corpo jacket coming against me.
He warned me that ice would get worse.

    I continued on slowly.
Got to Mooneys pub and a descending mtber said road from gap was very bad.

By now it was 1015. So I said I would continue until I couldn't

About 2k later entire road had a sheet of ice. Stopped and turned around.

A guy behind me kept going.

    Not today.

Retraced my steps and headed to Newbridge, Celbridge Clane and Maynooth.
Roads in Kildare dry as a bone.
Disappointed not to make it up the gap today, but it was an otherwise stunning day for a cycle.

Given the route that I ended up taking I should have gone on the club spin this morning.
    Ah well.

I came through Lusk on the commute at around 6.40am. Frozen puddles at the sides of road. Took it handy.

went out for a 2 hour spin in the ncd area this morning. Headed up towards stamullen, naul, oldtown direction. Some of the backroads were dicey with frozen ice patches on the roads. Just took it handy. lovely fresh day though

    Off we go again.

Forecast for this week is persistent coldness everywhere, icy and freezing. Flurries of snow in the east early tomorrow, but that's about it. There's a threat of ongoing snow for the west of the country for the whole week.

I just hope the wind eases up a little. I'm sick of cycling into gales and the way to work. The training is great but I've had enough!

Cracking morning to be out on the bike, flew into college this morning with the arm warmers rolled down!

Wind was relentless on the way in this morning. 4 hours of being stalked by an evil headwind yesterday has me wrecked (despite spending most of my time hiding behind stronger chaps).
