    Happy birthday Caramelbarrel!
Looking forward to see you and the rest of the girls on Saturday.
Yesterday on the luas there was a pregnant girl sitting opposite to me and I just thought - what if it's one of you and we will meet on Sat? It would be just madness!

Happy Birthday Caramel!!!!! Sorry I'm late!

Well ladies had our last sonographer scan yesterday. Which was a bit final-eeeekkkkk! Consultant does little scans but really the next time we see babs will be when they are on the outside! Current weight is 5lbs 5 which apparently is bang on target and forecasted delivery weight is between 7 & 8lbs which sounded reasonable? They were very happy with everything which is a huge relief after the earlier bit of drama about the brain ventricle measurements (now perfect of course babs just keeping us on our toes!). Lenght is average-everything was average! They seemed pretty happy baby wasn't too big (as was I) and of course the biggest news of all-babs has turned and is now head down!!!! Not sure if it was the chiropractor, the pilates, the exercise ball or the baby themselves but head down they are!! Everyone at pains to say that babs could still move again but I think we'll cross that bridge when/if we come to it!
Midwife banned me from watching One Born.....

Happy Birthday Caramel sounds like you had a fab weekend.

Wicklori great to hear all is good with babs and he/she is measuring well. Not long now.

I am really finding it tough now.....Im back with consultant on Friday and i really cant wait to see her and see if she can help or advise me of what i can do to feel more comfortable, as im struggling with mid back pain on the right the goes right around to the front (like baby has a leg or arm lodged in there) had lower back & abdom pain aswel last night, with heartburn and then eventually vomited. I got about 3 hrs sleep. I really don't want to be moaning about it but im fubarred already!! when im uncomfortable i try relax and do some gentle breathing which helps but doesn't take away the discomfort! Sorry for moaning ladies :(

Elly you poor thing! Would you think of going to a chiropractor at all? I go once a month and haven't had any back trouble, but it sounds like they can help with pregnancy back pain for definite..... Can recommend you one if you like?

Thanks wicklori, Im only getting the discomfort since last Thursday i haven't suffered back pain throughout the pregnancy at all. I will think about the chiropractor and do a bit of research and see if it is worth it or not and i will decide are seeing the consultant on friday, i mentioned it to midwife at class last night and she said to put my arms up over my head or get on all fours and see if that relieves it, she said its baby getting bigger and pushing against my ribs! She also told me i had a fine size baby just from looking at my bump.

On the bright side myself and other half have decided pretty much on the birth plan, im going to go for as long as i can without epidural and if i get to the stage of not been able to deal with it any more then i'll request epidural. I like the idea of been able to get up and move around and having control. With the epidural i don't like the idea of been bed bound and been instructed when to push but as i said we are open to it and we also decided if baby is breech we will opt for c-section and will not try turn baby. Before doing any of the ante natal classes we both said epidural straight away why would i put myself through unnecessary pain but after the classes we both feel like we understand each of the pain relief methods better and are now in a much better position to decide on the birth plan.
Any one else decided on what they wish to do?

Poor you! I had back pain mostly in the first trimester, a bit in the second and miraculously none so far in the third. I think what helped is the body pillow at night, and when I put my leg on it, I try to put the leg as far away from the body as possible, as if I kind of curl it back to the body, I will wake up with back pain again.
I was thinking about birthplan and wanted to do all natural, no epidural etc. But not sure now if I would be able to - the baby is still not upside down, so there is a chance I will end up with a C-section, and then I will need to decide if it will be an epidural or general anaestetic - don't want to think about that just yet, will give it several weeks more, there is still time for the little one to turn.

Well done Elly to have birth plan under control. My husbands sister in law had a bad epidural experience so we were initially trying to stay away from it but I think we are both more open minded now. I think we'd be of the same mind as you-take it as it comes and be open to whatever depending! No need to be a martyr-in Junior Infants no one wil be able to tell which children's Mother's had epidurals or c-sections!!

Do you have an exercise ball? Really helps when babs is lying in an uncomfortable spot for me....

Hope you had a great birthday Caramel - sounds like a lovely party at the weekend!

Does it feel weird to anyone else to be so close that you are finalising birth plans? I'm sticking to the same birth plan I had last time around - even though everything didn't go exactly according to the plan on the night, the plan still represents my ideal, and if we deviate from it, I figure so be it - it's only a list of preferences really. An open mind and a flexible approach is probably the main thing you need.

I have the following on my plan for pain relief preferences:

    • I would like to try relaxation, breathing, and acupressure techniques for as long as possible; then gas and air, and an epidural in that order, if needed.
    • I do not want any kind of anaesthesia offered to me during labour, though I would like it available if I specifically request it.
    • I will want local anesthesia for repair of tears or of episiotomy.

I guess I will have to change that because there is no epidural option this time around where I'm going (though I've heard that if something happens and you really need it, you can transfer out of the midwife led unit and into the main hospital). But there is a birth pool option, so I'll add that instead. It really helped me last time though to know that I wasn't putting myself under pressure to refuse anything. Nor did I feel that I absolutely had to have something. And sure it worked out fine in the end. Hopefully this time will be just as good.

Thank you for all the Birthday wishes!!!!!!
Thank you, they are lovely !!!
    :-)

Elly, I'm also having some problems on the RIGHT side of - back and front of pelvis. I'm still teaching Yoga so I think that is not helping but I'm just going to do another 2 weeks after this and then get some cover teachers in.

Still have the question of the Home Birth idea swimming around but I'll know when I know. Got midwife and Doula appointments this Friday so see what happens there.

The Birth Plan so far as been - water pool for pain and relaxation and the option of Gas and Air at the very last stages.
But if I go into Holles St that's the Water Pool plan out the door!!!

Aniascor, where are you going that there is a water pool??????

I'm going to the MLU (midwife led unit) in Drogheda Caramelbarrel. There's a birth pool in the centre of the room, which you can use for labour, but you're not allowed to deliver in it.

Great to meet you girls today. We could have chatted all day and night :-) I'm shattered now. I'm Lying in the bed and dont want to get up, I've to leave the house in 20mins to go out for dinner and I've still to iron my clothes. Ohhhhh the joys of been preggers :-)

Hope you all got home safe xx

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 4,047 ✭✭✭yellow hen

Oh girls so how did your meet up go? Am dying to hear. Did everyone's real persona match their online one?? :)

Would love to have seen everyone's little bumps?

We're so nearly there! 35wks + 2 today. We put the cot together yest... Our house is teeny so it takes up so much space but I don't care, it's just great to see it there!!! I am genuinely feeling the struggle now... It's hard to sit down and get up, the weight of the baby is definitely pushing down too. I tried the perineal massage and almost tore my inners out...not sure I want to try again!!

So tell me, how are you all keeping???

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 113 ✭✭Caramelbarrel

LOL! Had the same experience Yellow Hen!
I was wondering was it just my bootie but great to know it felt agony for you too...
That perineal muscle feels bloody well HARD... is that really going to be able to 'stretch'???
I found it very hard to get at it in the first place and then it was agony to even rub it a bit....oh jaaasssss!!

Was fab to meet you lads on Saturday, really looking forward to our next meeting now, will be great to catch up again then :-) :-)

Hopefully a few more bumps can join the next time :-) it was really fun!

Aniascor, that's great you are going to Drogheda... I did see that hospital on the web, way back at the very start but in my ignorance thought that you would have to leave in the area to be allowed to birth there... So, maybee not... Ah well, too late now!! Good for you, I remember it looked great and very progressive. Same then thought as the Domino's -- no water birth allowed, must get out when baby is coming... Such a pity really, it's the most natural way -- water to water... And every other blooming country in the world does water births!! Ah well...

Got my pool now, my Doula had one in her attic already, yay! Gonna set it up in a couple of weeks on my next Doula meeting :-)

Hey girsl, was really nice to meet you on Sat, it was fun! 4 pregnant ladies chatting away about babies and pregnancy! :)
Looking forward to the next meet-up :) Yellow Hen, you should join then!

We washed baby clothes yesterday, they are so tiny. It's like having doll clothes, tiny socks and hats and vests - they are so cute. Can't wait to meet the baby!

Only 2 weeks left at work, can't wait to finish!

Morning Ladies, Happy Monday (i hate mondays)

I have my physio class today looking forward to it. YH on the physio classes is it past reception and around to the left in the coombe? Im 33 weeks today and im feeling every bit of it, twisting and turning all night with the weight of the baby and i have discomfort in my mid back at my ribs this time on the left side so think baby's back is pushing of my rib cage. Consultant said its all normal pregnancy pain and nothing to be concerned about which defo makes dealing with it a tad easier :) I would love to be finishing up work this week or next but another 5 weeks left :( if i could afford to take unpaid leave between now and when my maternity leave actually starts i would but think the time off would just drag in!

I got a fabulous gift from my friend yesterday, she got us our baby bath and it was filled with loads of necessities so it was like a big hamper she made it up herself i cant get over it, its gorgeous and such a great present to get. It made my weekend i got really excited opening it up, everything you need was in it, and her mam nit us a fabulous white blanket with a blue design on it. If i figure out how to upload a pic i'll attach it.

I think we said Saturday 2nd March. Does that suit you Yellow Hen? It really was a great afternoon, really nice been able to tell our stories and compare our experiences with eachother.

I need to get a hospital bag but i have everything folded and packed to go into the bag. The labour bag is packed. I picked up a nightdress from penneys with the buttons and i picked up 3 pj tank type tops from pennys with buttons also so they will be handy for B'feeding.

I went to mothercare and was measured on Friday.....i went from a 34c to a 38DD :eek: i didn't like the fit of the bras at all in there tried a couple on and none of them fit me well so i wasn't paying 30euro for something that didnt fit well. A friend of mine was saying to go for the sports type nursing bra she said she wore them for the first month of breastfeeding and found them very comfy. So i will go trying on bra's again next weekend, the bras and more BIG knickers is all i need :D

Elly, the hamper looks so nice!

Girls, when you are saying "hospital bag", do you actually mean a bag? I thought to pack a small suitcase (kind of hand luggage), it's easy to wheel, will everybody look strange at me in the hospital because I will be the only one with a suitcase and everybody else will be with some sort of a bag?

Elly, I find M&S pregnancy bras very comfy, will go for maternity ones there as well probably. But I want to wait till the end of February, what if my size increases again?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 503 ✭✭✭aniascor

Lilbe - I've packed suitcases. A small hand luggage one for the labour ward, and a normal sized suitcase for my hospital stay. When I arrive at the hospital in labour, the normal suitcase will stay in the car until baby is born. The only thing I'll bring in is the labour bag. Which reminds me - I must throw a shopping bag or similar into the case. When I arrived at the hospital in labour last time, I changed into my nightdress when I was being assessed. Then my husband had to carry my clothes, coat and handbag around as well as my case when we were heading up to the labour ward. It was a bit awkward. There just wasn't room in the case for my clothes when the nightdress came out of the case.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 4,047 ✭✭✭yellow hen

@elly where do you get the sports type maternity ones? I need to get some but to still too early to get measured is it not? I thought that you sort of had to wait until your milk came in?

Lilbe, my hospital bag is a small carry on sized case and my labour bag is a small fabric Kath kidston bag. We don't live too far from the hospital so my husband can bring home dirties and bring back clean clothes etc. re baby clothes, I have 3 newborn (up to 7lb 8) babygrows and 3 0-3 months (up to 10lbs). Am hoping that as soon as baby is born OH can go to next and buy some gender specific ones. I guess he'll have to wash and dry them all first but hey ho.....:)

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 503 ✭✭✭aniascor

Last time around, I decided I'd wait until my milk came in to get measured for breastfeeding bras. It turned out to be a terrible idea because I was stuck in hospital with just two bras that I could use for feeding. Had to guess a size in the end and send my husband over to mothercare to get more bras when the two I had got leaked on! This time I have bought bras that fit me right now and a couple that are one size bigger and a couple that are two sizes bigger. Nothing expensive - just the two-packs that they sell in mothercare. They will get me through the first few weeks until my post birth size settles down. Then I figure I can get measured and get something nice.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 167 ✭✭Lilbe

    Thank you girls!
There is a labour bag as well? What do you pack in there?
    I'm clueless! :)

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 4,047 ✭✭✭yellow hen

thanks aniascor, I'll go get measured soon and then just buy some bigger sizes too.`

Lilbe, there is a small bag for the labour ward with your slippers, nightie, dressing gown, babys first outfit, your personal and toiletry items etc. I think that's all thats in mine for now. I plan on putting food in too!

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 167 ✭✭Lilbe

    Thanks Yellow Hen!
Ah so that's basically just some stuff from the main hospital bag. I wish they gave us a checklist of what to bring with you - I made a list what to put into the hospital bag (more like a suitcase in my case), but still feel like I'm walking in the darkness and once I arrive to the hospital they will find out I have not brought something obvious and essential!

Lilbe, in the Maternity magazine in your Eumom welcome pack there is a list of what to bring.

I know Holles Street also has a list made up, so you could check your hospital.

There is also a thread on here about what to bring.
