I clicked purchase about an hour ago and got the "technical issue" error.I was using parcel motel as the shipping address and my own billing address with the parcel motel postcode. I didn't attempt to purchase it again. I haven't got a conformation email yet.
Do I wait it out or do I try purchase it again?
Also is the a need for me to ring the bank to authorise the billing address which is my home address with the parcel motel post code.

Many thanks.

I got the "technical issue" message and immediately ordered again. I only received one confirmation, so I'd say go again.

that's unfortunate. It's stupid that they can't cancel now really.

Yeah, especially considering I was trying to cancel the order that I placed at 3pm.

If you can't cancel orders at this stage I would take it as a positive sign that the orders are rushing through the fulfilment process and should ship quickly.

Ugh and so it begins again, if you wouldn't mind answering did you pay with a credit card or visa debit? Also did you set up a new gmail account or use an existing one?

What time did you order at? Did you follow the guide, using a new UK gmail account and all that?

How would you get a UK number for the account, since it needs to text you?

Visa Debit, New gmail, Irish billing address with parcel motel postcode..

However, when I was setting up my new google wallet I didn't put in the CVC ( number on back of card) and the transaction was declined the first time I put it through, then I updated the CVC and it went through. I also got a call from my bank shortly after as they thought it could be fraudulent activity as the 1st transaction was declined. So this could be just me.

If I send in the passport and address details will google allow me to try again?

That's crap, hope you get it sorted. I've no notifications of anything as of yet. I ordered at 15:03. They probably won't go in order of purchase like last time, bah.

I got my hopes up last time after I survived the cancellations for a day and a half, if it goes through great, if not I have my license and bank statement scanned ready to unlock my account.

Last time I had used a new UK gmail account, using my main Irish one I've had for years this time around, just removed my debit card and re added and set the country to UK with the parcel motel post code. Good luck to everyone trying.

Just for the people who got two by mistake, I sent them off a firm (but friendly!) email earlier and just got a reply from a very sympathetic Google man and now the second one has now been cancelled in Google Wallet.
Fingers crossed the other one survives now!

Err, late comer here, anyone willing to direct me to the post with a good walk-through of how to Parcel Motel a Nexus 4?

EDIT: http://www.boards.ie/vbulletin/showpost.php?p=82840489&postcount=1096 found!

EDIT: EDIT: Through stage one of ordering successfully, anyways.

The kick in the teeth is the confirmation email, though:
Purchased from:
Google Commerce Ltd
Gordon House, Barrow Street
Dublin 4
Ireland

The sale goes through Google European headquarters which just happens to be Dublin.

If anyone ends up with two give me a pm, I will take one at cost price.

I just replied to the address that I got the 'we can't cancel your order' email from.

googleplay-support@google.com

....So this is getting interesting. I just got an email from Google Play Support telling me that it's too late to cancel my order. I cancelled it (well, tried to) no more than ten minutes after placing it!
They said I have to refuse delivery and then I'll be refunded within two weeks.
The transactions are still pending in Google Wallet... But the money has been taken from my account  It's looking like a poor couple of weeks for me!

ill buy it from you if you get two for whatever you paid,

pm me if of interest

Quick question - if the transaction shows up on my debit card (when I check online with my bank), does that mean that the order has gone through all the address-related checking, and I just need to wait for my phone to arrive? Or could it still be cancelled?

Background:

I followed (almost) the method described here: http://www.boards.ie/vbulletin/showpost.php?p=82077167&postcount=554

Specifically, I did this:

- registered with Parcel Motel
- created a new UK gmail account, using Parcel Motel address in Northern Ireland
- added an Ulster Back debit card to the new Google Wallet account. This is a card issued by Ulster Bank in Belfast, but the bank has my billing address as being my real home address, in Dublin.
- when adding the debit card to Google Wallet, I used the Parcel Motel address for both shipping and billing addresses. This was the full Northern Ireland address, not just my Dublin address with the UK postcode tagged on.
- ordered Nexus 4, got the confirmation email

This morning, I logged on to Ulster Bank's website and checked the recent transactions showing on the current account to which the debit card is attached. It includes "Debit Card Transaction £288.99". That looks really promising, to my untrained eye. :-)

So, the question: if Google has debited my card, does that mean that my order *is* going to be processed? If they were going to cancel it (because the billing address that I gave to Google Wallet doesn't match the one on file with Ulster Bank), would that have happened before they debited the card?

By the way, thanks to everyone who has added useful information to this thread. I will post back here with the outcome of my order, in case it helps someone else.

Unfortunately it can still be cancelled, the money appears to have been taken but it's just a pre authorization on your banks side. Google don't actually take the money until it ships, at the moment the money is just being held.

Are you sure? Mine is showing a reduced balance also.

Positive, mine did the same before in the last batch before it was cancelled. Same situation now, have a reduced balance as well myself but with AIB it shows you the pending transactions ie the money's on hold but not taken.

So the only way to know for certain is to get an email from Google saying that the delivery has shipped?

• Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 143 ✭✭CubicleDweller

Thanks folks for the information, even though it's not what I wanted to hear. :)

I rang the bank, and they confirmed that the amount is "pending". They could see no reason why it wouldn't go through - the transaction is approved as far as the bank is concerned. But it's still up to the other company (Google) to complete the transaction, or cancel it.

When I explained about the need for the UK billing address, they happily agreed to change my address to the Parcel Motel one. (I'm set up for electronic statements, so that shouldn't cause any actual mail to be sent to that address.) That will take effect overnight, so I don't know if that will be too late...

By the way - does anyone know what happens if a letter (as opposed to a parcel) arrives to your Parcel Motel address? Can't see anything on their website about letters. Maybe they just treat them as very small parcels? :)

They forward it on to your chosen motel and charge you the €3.50 as they really have no other choice.

Yep :( in google wallet as well you should see this:
You placed an order with Google Commerce Ltd on 30 Jan. Google Wallet sent a copy of this receipt to
@gmail.com

That's the first part, when they actually "receive" your order another line will appear the above saying something along the lines of Google Commerce Ltd has received your order, this stage is where a lot of people (myself included) got cancelled the last time. I'm still on the first part at the moment.

Thanks, that's what I was hoping. It should never happen, so if it does I'll be happy to pay 3.50 rather than have a (possibly important) item go missing. Might need to get a real statement issued by post for some sort of verification process, i suppose...

Well... if anyone here happens to get 2 by 'mistake' or was unable to cancel the one they ordered (and still don't want it). I'll take it off your hands for what you paid for it (inc. shipping etc.). :-)
