    A very sad day yesterday.

A mind blowing turn out from the local town and An Garda Siochana to wave off a man robbed of his life far too early.

A fantastic priest who welcomed the right people at the right times and said what we are all thinking.

A political presence welcome or not made their way to pay their respects.

An inability to get Adrian's name right on one count but not surprising...

What counts however is that this man who I never knew was given the send off that he deserved. He was murdered in cold blood doing a job he clearly enjoyed for a measly amount of money.

I am not a member of An Garda Siochana but I was so proud of each and every one of you yesterday. You took two and a half hours of rain outside in a car park and didn't flinch.

I am not a member of the PSNI but your presence was notable and appreciated by all who saw you.

I am a member of the Dundalk community and as fantastic a town as it is and as much as I have always appreciated it for that fact, I have never been more proud of it as I was yesterday. Print a picture of Dundalk yesterday under "Solidarity" in the dictionary, it needs no other words.

To the family and friends of Adrian, as cruel as this may sound but the past few days was the easy bit. It's when the doorbell calls less and the phone doesn't ring as much that the real grief of your terrible loss will set in. When it does, open a newspaper from today or one of the countless websites or yesterdays six one and remember how much love exists in this country for your husband, father, son, brother and friend and for you.

    R.I.P. Adrian....

Adrian was a fine Guard and a fine gentleman and a great sportsman, Minister Shatter and that excuse of a government of ours have no shame, the day after the state stood together to honour a brave garda they close 95 garda stations, absolutely disgraceful.
Since Sunday lunchtime up to today at 3 pm I have had to run thieving scum from my property on two separate occasions, one of them was on the run from Wheatfield for a few months, that was on Sunday, and today I had one of the biggest light fingered travellers in the area drive into my yard and have a nosey about, luckily I was splitting sticks and the axe done the talking in the finish.
Shame on Shatter and the government, Respect to the Gardaì..

Briefly saw a copy of the Irish Independent this morning - they had scrambled the faces of his children (at the funeral). Don't know about other outlets, but at least that's something.

The wife requested that the children were not shown in public media. Really they shouldn't have been shown at all

I agree with you about all respect to the Gardai, but I don't agree with you about the stations. Do you want the Gardai to be sitting in their station, or do you want them to be out responding to your calls?

Eh....whats to stop them responding from the station?

The only difference is now they'll be responding from a station even further away. Don't fall for the Shatter spin. It's nothing got to do with efficencey. It's a money saving excercise. He doesn't give a **** about the quality of service at the coalface. Crime figures can be spun to mean anything but mean nothing to someone who is the victim of crime

Because they can't leave the station unmanned during its opening hours. Somebody has to sit behind a desk for the entire period that the station is open.

No, they don't. Yes they do in certain stations, ie: the district headquarters. Country stations can, and are, locked up while responding to calls.

So that's what Shatter is doing - locking them up while the Gardai are responding to calls.

Responding to calls is what everyone wants, where I live the nearest stations are, 3klm to the west and 5 klm to the east of me both well populated areas as in over 4/5k people in each area, both these stations are working the same shifts and off the same shifts, which is crazy.
When they are closed the next nearest is 22klms away how long would you think it would take to respond from this station opposed to the nearest one, a difference of 15 mins on twisty back roads and Im not exactly out in the sticks.
The local scum bags all now the shifts the stations work and who is working, these are the things that need changing.
Listen to the Gardaì, they know exactly whats going on, Outside of the Metropolis.

Why do you assume that they'll be sitting in any station, whether the current ones or the district ones waiting for your call. It is far more likely that they'll be out on another call, and will then head to your call when they are finished, or in case of emergency, as soon as they get your call.

That will remove the scenario of the bad guys knowing where they are and how long it might take them to arrive.

Where did I say anything about sitting in stations?
What I mean there are 6 gardaì in one station and 3 in the other both stations cover the same areas, but work the same shifts, this is mental no gardaì on duty since yesterday through to Sunday and then both stations are open for 3 days/nights.
Seems like bad management, bit like the HSE !!!

Indeed, it is bad management. So they're taking the three from other both stations and putting them out on the road, dealing with people and making calls. And people are still moaning.

Except that they will now be based in the next nearest station which could be 40 minutes away.

By closing the stations and putting the members that were stationed there into the next nearest station, do you believe that those members will be allowed to just randomly go and patrol their old area? It won't happen. Due to cuts, retirements and members leaving, those members will be utilised in other ways, leaving their old area ignored. To the District Super, the member from the closed station is now another member he can use in other areas.

id agree fully with that conclusion and my basis for that is over five years working in the job and seeing how management operate....

make no mistake, there wont be extra patrolling in these areas.

the vast amount of districts have chronic shortage of cars and members. there simply arent enough cars to go patrolling a smaller area on anything approaching a regular basis. ultimately this will lead to guards not knowing where things are out in the back of beyond and also not knowing who the criminals are.

Is it not clear what Potential-Monke means, open your eyes and see whats going on ffs, its all about money nothing at all to do with changing Policing.

They aren't even replacing the existing no. of current vehicles when they reach end of life, so where are these "extra" vehicles going to come from ?

Patrolling in these area's will become non existent, bar taking reports after the fact.

Shatter is a grade A spoofer and it's really as simple as that.......

It is the Indo you are talking about.

It is the Indo you are talking about.
She had a meeting with RTE staff with regard coverage of the funeral. She didnt want any cameras in the church to protect the children from being shown in the media.
She asked that they dont be shown so every media outlet should of respected her wishes

Of course, but time and again, the Indo has displayed itself to be pure scum.
Next week they'll be demanding pay cuts for gardai. Just wait.
