Aren't you a Fianna Failure apologist? Apologies if I have the wrong guy.

Edit: apologies, a quick check suggests you are a fan of Joe Higgins.
Edit 2: and more so of Sinn Fein.

I didn't vote, but I probably would have voted FG and LAB if I did. The alternatives were the idiots who ruined us, or the dreamers in SF and the ULA. Like I said, we get the politicians we deserve.

And why didnt you vote? Normally wannabe know it all's at least get out f the scratcher to vote?

So the Greeks get massive writedowns and pay no interest for a decade while the best behaved pupil in Europe gets fcuk all. You couldn't make it up.

Ah but sure Enda got a nice pat on the head, and now he's just got a gigantic kick in the b####x

    I wasn't able to.

Funny how the folks here with no arguments resort to insults immediately. Well, actually not surprising at all. But if you don't understand the discussion, why bother chipping in with insults? You'd be better off reading some neutral sources on what is going on.

I'm not really cheerleading for the Government. I'm just saying that a lot of people would rather see the Government fail than see Ireland succeed.

Naturally enough, this extends into branding anyone who wishes them success as 'Government apologists'.

They said from day 1 that the way to do this stuff is to be in the tent p*ssing out, rather than to alienate the ECB, the EU and the IMF. This is what they are doing. If it hasn't worked in another year or two, then they will have failed, and that will be time to judge them and their approach.

Of course, as I've said, I would have preferred a hard default back when Fianna Failure first bankrupted us, but I imagine 99% of the public would have been pretty strongly opposed to it (and perhaps still are? I don't know).

Looks like Gilmore is now singing this tune in Chile.

Honestly, what makes him think that the electorate or the politicians in Chile give a f**k about Ireland and its problems.

Based on what evidence do believe the irish people enjoy the failure of their governmant?

What makes you think they don't?

Criticism is absolutely necessary, but this brainless slating of absolutely everything reminds me of an angsty teenager in a world-class sulk.

Wrong on all counts.!! just as you have been wrong on every point you have made on this thread. i AM a fan of common sense and hard bargaining, definately not a fan of failed national school teachers, publicans and former auctioneers on a massive ego trip.
May i suggest that you sir are a member of some crazy government quango with an obvious vested interest and a desperate necessity to maintain the status quo....??

I think Ireland has to seriously consider defaulting. We took a bullet at the height of the crisis, and if the ecb cannot/will not give an allowance then we may need to pull out of the EU.

This is the first time I've considered such action, and the point was well made above - we are not too big to fail. It would mean an urgent and sharp drop to public sector wages which will have knock on affects to the private sector.

He's at a EU-Latin America Summit which happens to be hosted in Chile. Naturally, the people at that summit would be interested with how the EU are dealing with its banking/debt crisis.

Maybe you just scanned the headline without reading.

I think dvpower is pointing out that certain fanatical followers of certain green-hued parties and certain followers of certain failed political ideologies view every failure (or perceived failure) of the coalition as a victory for their favourite politicians.

I don't think the suggestion was that the Irish people in general love to see our politicians fail.

You may suggest it, but do you want me to post links to your posts praising Joe Higgins and Sinn Fein? Were you lying then or are you lying now?

Where are they going to get 3.1 billion?

Is it already included in ireland's expeniture?

or are they going to borrow more from them to pay them back to pack them back again down the line with interest?

We have to balance the austerity of paying back the massive bank debt versus the likely austerity of defaulting on that very debt. I'm now leaning towards the latter action if the gun is put to our head.

i have levelled praise on Higgins and SF when ever i've believed they have made valid points just as i have with FG,LAB and indeed FF.
if you take time to scan my previous 1,000 posts this will become clear to you.
i have no agenda to push, but i can see government failure when it sticks out like a sore thumb ann simply cant understand people who continue to support failed policies.

P.S. welcome to Boards.ie by the way. an impressive 20 posts already.
what did you do in your 'previous life'
Could'nt be bothered scanning you posts to find out..;)

    The electorate are f*cking idiots.

Unfortunately the experts like yourself didn't bother to vote. Nice the way you managed to expunge yourself of all blame. Well done.

A look at your posting history suggests more praise heaped on SF than on all the other parties combined. I wonder can you find any of your posts praising FG at all? Or Labour?

    Many thanks for the welcome.

I bothered to vote when the electorate kept returning Fianna Failure. I wasn't able to vote last time, it wasn't a choice.

Of course 'experts like myself' were shouted down during the FFailure bubble, and oddly enough continue to be shouted down during the FFailure bust.

The unelected mandarins of the ECB are showing their true colours and at last the Irish people are beginning to see the EU for what it truly is.
A broken and corrupt institution which does not care a whit for the citizens of Europe.

You said you didn't vote, but would've voted FG and Lab. Does that make you part of the idiot electorate? Are you or are you not claiming to be an idiot?

You understand that it is essential that central banks are run by 'unelected mandarins'? Critically important?

Don't let the real world impede your rhetoric...

I would have voted for the least worst option. Who would you have voted for?

So you would have voted for the party that ruined this country in the 50s, the 70s and again in the 2000s? And is still run by a guy who sat in the cabinet and signed off on policies that bankrupted the place?

I think you have made my point for me.

So.. one of the idiots basically?

I would've voted for Fianna Fail. The reason being I believe they were corrupt, but were making a turn, whereas the current crowd are only starting, and are using FF as the scapegoat at every opportunity. Hell look at the video that's already been posted and they started the interviewing by blaming FF, therefore trying to absolve themselves of any blame.

The people who developed the bank bailouts are still in Government, and will be no matter who is voted in. Therein lies the issue.
