I've always felt uncomfortable speaking to people on phones etc so t'is fantastic for people like myself. Not every single person wants to engage in a long winded conversation when they need to contact someone..

Depends on the persons. If texting is working fine then happy days. I won't have time to be talking to someone during work etc although a text might lift me a bit if the craic is good.

Personally though it's the talking that does it best. Each to their own.

Message board posts are not limited to, like, 10 words.

You still using a 3210 or something?

Nah don't mind texting at all but only because I hate talking on the phone.

Nothing wrong with texting, it's quick easy and fun but i do prefer to chat on the phone, depending on who im chatting to of course.

I have big fingers, so texting is a bit hit and miss. I tend to avoid it. If you have a teenager available, it is much quicker to chuck them the phone and get them to do it. Somtimes the teenagers run off screaming, several have run off with the phone and five or six called the Gards. I'm going to have to invest in a teenager of my own to follow me around.

Was just about to reply to say this. I hate phonecalls, except to my mum and boyfriend, so texting is great for me, I use emails to contact people for work issues where possible, hate phonecalls so much.

    Not me.

You can text somebody about anything like 'did you see that goal?' 'Yeah it was great etc'.

Now think of that phone conversation?

    'Great goal eh'
    'Eh yeah...so eh...do you...like...stuff?'

Obviously it's not that awkward with your mates, but the point is, you communicate and acknowledge the smaller things via text.

    A conversation isn't always required.

In short, all hail text messaging and all it variants (iMessage, BBM)!

It's getting harder to text on these new smartphones.

    Texting was a great invention.
Twitter I have discovered is just texting the whole internet at once. Well only if you are famous or funny, otherwise nobody ever reads it.

    I blames unlimited text plans.

It has turned the nation into simpletons.

I can see some situations where a text can be useful but this crap of sending text after text of utter scutter is idiotic

Touchscreens have made texting too cumbersome. If only Apple had made it fashionable to have a phone with nice big chunky buttons. Still, don't see the harm in actual texts themselves, language erosion notwithstanding

I like texting, thinks its up there with sliced bread and ice cream. Anything that means I dont have to listen to more bullsh1t than is necessary is a winner in my book.

Stupidest, are the idiots who post photos of their every meal on Facebook, or those who like to remind everyone on Twitter of their every daily movement ie. 'going to the shop' Whoopee fcuking dooda.

I think if texting was invented first and then voice calls, people would be all like "Hey this is awesome, I hear you!!"

What I don't like about texting is the other person doesn't know in what tone I mean the text in especially if its someone I don't know to well. I slag them in a jokey way or something and it looks like I'm just a c*nt. Then I think Ill put in smiley faces so they'll get the tone I mean but then I think Ill look childish/girly.

is incredibly ****ing annoying, and people who use the word 'like' incorrectly should be shot in the face.

I love texting :D I love the odd phone call for a chat too but I use my phone much more for texting or short phone calls. I still can't understand text speak though and I'm only 21. Drives me insane. With most plans having free texts now there's no excuse. I'd rather write a message that runs into two texts rather than use text speak.

Yeah, I don't know when texts were last limited in characters. '95 maybe?

I text all the time. Prefer it over ringing someone. Although I'm not adverse to giving someone a jingle now and again.

The stupidest thing ever on a phone is not having a light. That and sparkly covers that turn nice sleek little phones into tacky, huge, cheap looking pieces of tat.

Equally sh!te. But at least people get to blow their own trumpet to a much wider audience.

Only monkeys can blow their own trumpets, humans can only jerk off.

Dunno about Twitter but with FB you can always hide your mates' messages or unsubscribe if they offend you so much.

I had my first mobile, aged 29 or thereabouts, for a year before I discovered this text malarkey :D
