High 5 and a slap on the ass!

    Or

A gentle hand shake and peck on the cheek

    How's your father?

Then she says, "You're grand, aren't ya?"

    And I say, yes.

Depends on what you're doing with the other arm.

    It depends on the date.

If it's April 1st you should play an amusing prank on them.

If it's a lady, raise your hat in greeting and take her hand in yours, if you dare and kiss it. Remark on how you are "simply delighted" to see her.

If it's a chap, give him a playful soft blow to the shoulder and/or wrestle him to the ground whilst talking about the "game" today.

How would you greet anyone in a proper social situation? Basic rules of social interaction would apply surely. Ignore the idea of it being a 'date,' pretend it's just another lunch/dinner date etc and go from there. If you are a bloke and you come across like a dog in heat, most women will go, 'I'm out of here, bye, bye.' If you come across as a normal, level headed man who knows who he is, is confident - not an arrogant tosser - and is happy in his own skin. I think that's the way to go. If she likes you grand, if she doesn't equally grand.

Sorry I'm late. Got off at the wrong bus stop despite living here all my life. Doh! Isn't the rain awful?

Eleven years later we're happily married.
