I wouldn't imagine there are many people out there who honestly doubt the existence of life elsewhere in the universe so why would it in fact have profound implications, and why would governments want to cover it up in the first place? Tell that to the guys who built themselves Y2K bunkers, people who genuinely thought about killing themselves and their family before 2013, the guys that run Jesus Camp, basically any religious fundamentalist, etc.

They have the technology to fly from lightyears away . Im sure they could sit just out of range of our rockets and and shoot longer range rockets .

But sure if their technology is far more advanced than ours anyway they could just come along and wipe us out, like that bit in Hitchhikers Guide....

They might just be nice peps y'know and wanna be nice to us coz we're basically the product of their petri dish they left behind and they feel some kind of responsibility.
Then again, they could be ultimate b@stards and enslave us all, but sure, it's not like we'd really have much of a choice if it came to happen.

Why wouldnt they want to win a war without firing a shot or losing a single soldier?
We'd all be wiped out a lot easier if we fall to our knees as soon as they arrive or just believe everything they say.
Or perhaps they dont want to wipe us out because they intend to harvest us.
