    I believe you're incorrect.

Section 4(a) rape can only be committed by a man, against either a man or a woman.

A lot of things are wrong with the world. Women make many decisions these days and are just as responsible for what goes on as they are equally able to change things.

You are making a tit of yourself now.

I think you'll find that most of them expressing outrage on this thread and feeling genuinely sick because of this story, are men.

I think what Curlzy is getting at (and I'm open to correction) is that there's been a spate of stories in recent weeks where women have been abused or had some terrible wrong done to them.

I agree, it's terrifying and makes me thank my lucky stars.

But 99% of men were also horrified at hearing the same news stories, it's unfair to hold it against the entire gender.

So a woman would be charged with sexual assault

You seem to be forgetting that a large percentage of anti abortion people are women and being anti abortion does not equate to being catholic, so take your ignorance and misandry elsewhere

That's a stupid point IMO. Firstly you don't know people's gender based on usernames. Secondly some men expressing disgust doesn't negate the fact that most sex crimes are perpetrated by men against women.

Not all men are bad, I didn't say they were, what I said was that it's really hard not to take a disliking to men in general based on all horrific things men have done lately.

Thanks for the clarification. NOT:rolleyes:. If you just want to be insulting then stop bothering replying coz I really couldn't care less what you think.

    This.

I think it's difficult for men to understand how depressing it is to not be taken seriously in so many aspects of society in comparisan to men, to not have rights to their own bodies, to be under threat of rape and sexual assault and then in 9 times out of 10 not have justice done for it...and the list goes on.

I am not denying that there are many ways in which it is difficult to be a man (fathers rights comes to mind here) and I am not denying that sexual assault and rape does happen to men, but particularly in the last few months, as Lollipop said, so many stories come to light about horrible things women have to go through that just make it overwhelming.

But for someone to say this makes them inherently dislike men in general is absurd.

I feel kinda bad for you if the recent news stories colour your opinion of men in general.

Like, I've had my fair share of run-ins with assholes in my life (hell, I'm going through a break up right now) but I still love and respect the other men in my life, as they're decent human beings who treat women properly.

Maximum 10 years in prison compared to life in prison for rape

thanks Lollipops, that's pretty spot on. It seems that people aren't bothering to consider the rest of my post at all, but sure that's the way it goes I suppose on the internet.

A stupid point? Really? I've been around here long enough to know the gender of A LOT of posters. I've been here 9 years.

Besides that, you're being ridiculous and I think you're starting to realise that yourself now because you're bactracking slightly. Even if you're not, it's still an illogical stance to take.

Yes most sex crimes are committed by men against women. But they are not happening left, right and centre. For example, India has one fifth of World's population - 1.3 billion! That's one case in a massive country. Add to that increased communicaions links, media, internet etc and you'll realise that similar rape cases probably happened before but we didn't hear about it because the internet was not as well utilised back then. Anyway, it's the other side of the world!

And to even suggest that there's justification for disliking men, even in general, is frankly ludicrous.

Are you you going to stay away from your brothers and father from now on?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,272 ✭✭✭Barna77

ffs, fail to pay a fine or the tv licence and you'de be shítting yourself waiting for some sentence or whatever, and then you see cases likes this.

    a fúcking disgrace

And I still wonder why there are constantly so many similar stories in this country. I mean sexual abuse within the family. I read a couple of weeks ago the story about the Dalkey case.... -shudders-
    It baffles me.

I wonder why we bother with trials some times. They seem like a PR exercise for the state.

They pretend they are looking for justice, then hand out mickey mouse sentences for serious crimes. I'm surprised the judge didn't offer the monster a chance to simply pay his way out of this, that seems to be the usual easy way out for rapists!

I hope Paul Carney sleeps well tonight.

Yet another day when I'm ashamed to be Irish!! Having a lot of those the last 3 years!!!

The list goes on, really? I'd like to see this list. And men are more likely to be physically assaulted or murdered but I don't go around saying I'm under threat of physical assault or murder.

Hysteria on boards.ie is getting worse.

Holy mother of fúck I've seen people hijack threads in the past as to use as a platform for their own agendas but you are really taking liberties with this one.

Up till your first post here you were the only person who hasn't expressed their disgust about the judges decision.

More interested in taking the discussion off topic to highlight your own feminist agenda.

    For shame.:(

And how can us ordinary men do anything about that? Besides vote in the Abortion Referendum I mean.

And what can we do about inept judges?

We can't do anything. So don't judge the whole gender on the actions of a sick few. We don't deserve it.

It doesn't make a difference, you still sound ridiculous.

But of course we're just reading it wrong.

On topic...how can this judge get away with making rulings like this? SUrely he must have to answer to someone...

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 6,414 ✭✭✭kraggy

How about you drop your agenda and everyone get back to discussing the OP?

On topic, I've searched Carney's sentencing before because of another thread just like this one and there were countless examples of him either giving suspended sentences when the convicted should have spent decades behind bars, or he granted bail when there was no way the defendant deserved it.

It's scary to think that he's still a judge. What other poor victim would waive anonymity in the future when they see the likes of what happened in this case?

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 6,327 ✭✭✭Madam_X

Curlzy, I read what you said as: it's understandable for women to feel animosity towards men in general, given the recent reports.
You seriously cannot expect men not to feel defensive if you're going to make a comment like that. Just because you said you know it's unfair, doesn't change how inflammatory and provocative your comment is.
No, it really isn't understandable if a woman starts to feel anger and dislike towards men in general on the basis of attitudes/actions of some men. It's punishment of them simply for their gender, which is ironically what you're railing against.
Would you like it if there was a spate of reports featuring horrible acts by women and someone said "It makes it understandable of someone to feel hostility towards women in general"?
For the misogynists you mention also, your comment would be deemed absolute gold, as proof of man-hating.

The only person a judge has to 'answer to' is the president. That's the only one that has the power to sack them, and I'm not sure it has ever happened in Ireland before.
