If they're here as asylum seekers, they won't be listed on the unemployed register, afaik.

I think the study was based on the quarterly national housing survey
    3 DATA
    3.1 Introduction
In this chapter we describe the Quarterly National Household Survey (QNHS)
Equality Modules for Quarter 4, 2004 and 2010, which are the data sources on which
the results presented in this report are based. We also outline how we define
immigrants and the various migrant and national-ethnic groups that are analysed in
the report. A key advantage of survey data is that it provides a representative sample
of the population, and allows us to draw conclusions about that population, which is
not possible using qualitative data. Surveys also tend to contain information on a
range of additional characteristics for individuals and, in the case of the QNHS, their
jobs. That said, migrants are a difficult group to reach and some of the challenges of
measuring them using surveys are discussed below.
3.2 Quarterly National Household Survey (QNHS)
The main data source for this report is the Quarterly National Household Survey
(QNHS). The QNHS is undertaken by the Central Statistics Office (CSO) and its main
objective is to provide estimates on short-term indicators of the labour market such
as employment and unemployment. It is the CSO’s second-largest statistical project
    (after the Census).

My Ireland and my experiences are not your Ireland and your experiences.

Sad to say but we do have a racist problem in Ireland as has been pointed out for quite some time now, a chara.

Sorry but I can't stand by idly whilst you add to the problem by burying your head in the sand.

I feel you are wrong OH. You cannot force the issue of integration. It is something that will take time. Right now we have kids from many different backgrounds sitting side by side in classrooms (well not right now unless they're on detention, but you know what i mean). These are going to be the new generation of Irish and I believe that will pan out fine.

Since racial integration is a fairly new phenomena in this country and I feel you are being very disingenuous by holding up a few tenuous examples of individual nutjobs promoting hatred. You seem to be preempting the emergence of a racist society based on these peoples bigoted views. It won't happen. We are not the UK. We don't have a far right with racist agendas like you alluded to. There is more a problem of xenophobia in this country than racism. Even insofar of the whole thing that you would have to be probably third or forth generation in some Irish towns before you are accepted as 'one of their own'.

At the end of the day it feels like you are just berating humans for being human. A 'hurry up, you're not dropping your guard quick enough' kind of attitude. This will solve nothing and in fact I feel it does more bad than good. By all means 'stamp out' prejudices, but to be true to yourself make sure you are rooting out and stamping them out on both sides.

Seeing as their absence is a result of "force" it has to be righted by active measures. You can't even come up with a feasible way to get around the problem up north, let alone where race is an issue....

Evidence for that RACIST remark please.
Obviously you didn't bother to read the report or you wouldn't have posted such ignorant gibberish.

    Retract your vile allegation sir.

So you actually want me to provide evidence (on after hours) that people coming from third world African nations, will have lower average education levels than people born in a 1st world western nation, with highly accessible primary secondary & third education?

Really? Are you not massively embarrassed to be asking that?

So you think the RUC/PSNI should have been left as essentially a unionist institution? That there should be no measures taken to remedy discrimination in hiring practices in companies etc?

You keep quoting this, this is a totally different situation. There was over
90% of the the police force of one religion policing nearly 50-50 of two
    religions.

There was also a huge change going on with the future of northern Ireland
with the peace process alot of things were changing.

You do know that they have now stopped this idea? also nearly 1,000
retired members of the ruc were rehired as members of the psni.

No, but a few rights might help rebalance an unjust society built on discrimination to benifit the few at the expense of the many.

I have never been knighted and so reject the honorific, Sir.
I retract absolutley nothing, bearing in mind the doctor who trated one my children in hospital lately was a "Black African" as you describe them, don't think he moonlights as a toilet attendent at any club.

Ok fair enough. I didn't know there were any black doctors. I guess education levels in Ireland must actually be the same as the Congo.

Same here; afraid I can't stand idly by and watch the reality of racism being deliberately ignored. Only last month I saw some racist graffiti near where I live.

You saw some graffiti ! Wow we have a huge problem then.

Have you ever called someone a racist to their face? You call people
here it all the time and you don't even know them.

So what's is your game are you anti Irish?

No, but a few rights might help rebalance an unjust society built on discrimination to benifit the few at the expense of the many.

I accept that the nationalist/catholic people in NI were discriminated against because of their background. And I accept that jobs were given to Unionist/Protestant people on the basis of their background. This was discriminatory and wrong. I don't accept that giving jobs to the other side based on this very same discriminatory criteria is the correct way to redress the balance, as is being proved on the streets on NI this last few weeks.
Anyway we are getting off the topic of racism. I have given my opinion and I don't feel I have to elaborate any further so we can agree to disagree.

Answer the question. I find your remark very offensive.

    Offensive to whom?

    Were you ever young?

Do you not remember being in school and using terms like "retard" and "spastic" and "mental" as expressions of abuse?

Well some of us are forever young Noel. So we don't stop.

I never used words like that ever. I am offended. Do you think you are better than handicapped people ? Thats the way it sounds and I would like clarification.
