So, any chance @GeoffArsenal is just seeking attention or trolling??

30 million? Sounds to me like the cost of Walcott's new 5 year deal plus signing on fee.

Hadn't we some other geezer tweeting nonsense last summer too?

Who, AFCCamden? He was right about pretty much everything I think.

Yeah, he's playing for Galatasaray now though.

Can't remember his name but he had us linked to about 6 players we didn't get and had little chance of getting.

I know this post is utterly unhelpful, but I was flicking through Carlos Vela's recent news this morning. He's doing pretty good for Sociedad. Wiki says 8 goars in 17 league games for this season.

We sold him for 4m after a good loan spell to Sociedad. Could we have kept him, instead of the other dross we have but can't get rid of?

We aren't exactly overburdened with strikers either.

I wonder if we have a buy-back clause?

    From SSN.

Theo has signed a 3 1/2 year contract

Isn't Joel Campbell doing pretty well over there this season too?

Not sure Vela would be worth a buy back, I think La Liga suits him more than the PL. Its a shame though, always wanted to see him break into the team.

Really doubt he's trolling. Always gave good info on twitter RE Arsenal. He also stated that it wasn't Theos deal & that Theos deal has be done for about a week (club stalling announcement for some reason).

No idea who the player we're offering that money for is, but highly doubt it'd happen for some reason.

Dont suppose they are waiting with Walcotts announcement to have a double signing.
Remember in 2001 Arsenal announced a press conference and everyone was expecting Richard Wright and out walked Sol.
Ah, the good old days :)

Campbell was brilliant again for Betis even though they were bet the other night

I'm not one to blow up this kid but he could be better than messi :)

Walcott signed good no problem with that just don't want too see him up front unless we're playing someone crap or its the last 20 mins and the game is stretched

If he has signed, it's time to get a restraining order put against him for dead balls. Should not be allowed within 50 yards of a free kick or corner.

If it is only a 3.5 year deal that seems odd as it means we'll only get next season out of him before all the speculation kicks off again.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 9,031 ✭✭✭Soups123

I'd bench him for a month just for the laugh, hopefully the various experiments with him are over.

It is good for the club though he is a great player to have, and in a way has ended a rot. A big signing now to top this off would send out all the right messages to the fans and other teams, the days of selling are over.

Theo is hedging his bets here.

If we are still of this level in 3.5 years, he is off.

    I see the logic.

At least by then, with 2 years left, we'd get about 20m for him rather than 10 or so, or losing him on a free.

Yeah definitely coming from his side, surprised the club didn't insist on having an option to extend like with Cesc. Although if they did he could just walk away.

Hopefully now people who can actually take corners and free kicks will be put on them and he'll be put back out on the right and we'll see Giroud get a run up top.

Or maybe the club hedging theres, they are paying him more than they would like, if he doesnt come up to the level expected in the next 2/3 years he never will.

If along the way the team is doing well and he is playing well the chance to extend is more likely. Im glad we didnt lock him in for 5 years on a top wage, keeps him on his toes also

I'm happy it's only 3.5yrs still not convinced by him and we can flog him in 18 months if he is still the same or we have better players coming through

    Which I think we have

Don't see how the club benefits from a shorter contract. The longer the contract the higher the price that can be extracted from teams that want to buy him. And I can do with all the rumour and conjecture that will start again as soon as his contract begins to wind down.

Was on the ticker on SSN earlier. Also on BBC so it's pretty much confirmed I'd say.

Edit: All the journo's on twitter now saying it has been signed.

Looks like going from loads of live games to hardly any http://www1.skysports.com/football/news/11661/8405322/Sky-Sports-announces-12-new-live-Premier-League-fixtures-including-North-London-derby I suppose the 7 CL matches til the end of the season will make up for it.

Nice core of British players being signed up and kept by the club over the last while and even the Germans also.
Wonder what odds you would get on an all English/German side to line out for Arsenal in the next few years?

    Shea

    Jenkinson Mert Boateng Gibbs

    Ox Eisfeld Wilshere Gnabry

    Pod Walcott

    All Anglo-Teutonic line up.
