Just sent in my Final Course Acceptance form. Does that mean that I'm pretty likely to get the grant? Is there any harm in entering my bank details now?

Contact SUSI and ask for clarification

Ended up doing that, have my fees payed for me but they where unable to tell me how much, if anything I was getting.

So I have to send in an appeal letter with a copy of my award letter stating the problem. Fair enough, they have to have it all down on paper but its not that hard to just give out the information if they have it there in front of them.

It might speed things up a bit so go for it

It was so much easier to blame it on Them. It was bleakly depressing to think that They were Us. If it was Them, then nothing was anyone's fault. If it was us, what did that make Me? After all, I'm one of Us. I must be. I've certainly never thought of myself as one of Them. No one ever thinks of themselves as one of Them. We're always one of Us. It's Them that do the bad things.

so i done the one year llb last year for which i received funding and a grant and i applied to susi this year as im doing a masters, i was rejected saying i had not completed in full post grad which i had, i appealed and it was sent to susi for review, to which i received an email from college yesterday telling me susi has provided 2000e towards fees and all my fees are due now yet i have received no letters from susi, i was told before i started this course that the likelihood of full fees being covered was high as i was on the special rate grant last year and both of my parents do not work and are on disability payments and i cannot afford my fees at all, any advice at all? i know im lucky to have received that much, just i have friends who have had their full fees covered and their parents have are much wealthier than mine

    Contact SUSI

Ask them what have you been awarded

Once you get clarification tell them you want to appeal it

According to the website it is Friday.

According to the staff on Facebook, it is the last Friday of each month.

 It's a waiting game now.

My experience with SUSI has ben less than satisfactory to say the least. Applied in August on behalf of my son who is still a dependant. Got a letter back a couple of weeks after that asking for supporting documentation - THIRTEEN pieces of paper in total ranging from birth certs to P21s and P60s for myself and spouse to evidence that we had two others in college. It took a while to gather all of this together so it was October before I sent it off. I got a call from SUSI on Dec 21st asking had my son gone ahead with the course as they were following up some outstanding applications.
Alarm bells should have gone off then I suppose. I left it until last week and rang to be told that there was no record of any supporting documentation and to ring again this week. I did that yesterday to be told after a long wait that they "never received" anything from me. No sorry or explanation as to why this might have happened. The staff member I spoke to offered to reprint the letter listing the paperwork they wanted but I just asked her to list it out for me on the phone. They want...

    Birth cert
Junior and Leaving Cert( to prove Irish residence)
    Final course acceptance form
    P60 x 2 ( self and spouse)
    P21 x 2 ( self and spouse)
Eveidence two other students in college - 2 letters from THEIR colleges
Pension statements x 2. ( Only ordinary occupational ones)
Other income proof ( a few quid we got from a share sale)

I have to scan all of these and email them in. Luckily my son is living at home in Dublin and we didnt have to pay the college a huge amount.
The system is a joke from beginning to end. I am firmly of the view that either it's gross incompetence that has led to delays for students or a delaying tactic to minimize the funds paid out. One pile of ducumentaion gets scanned -the other gets shredded.

I'm not being rude or dismissive kalimah but you did wait about 3 weeks to return SUSIs calls!!!!!

Sorry you misunderstood me. SUSI phoned me on Friday Dec 21st and I took the call and spoke to them. They asked had my son gone ahead with his course as they were following up on outstanding grant applications they said. I said we had sent in all the paperwork in October. The lady who rang me said fine that was all they needed to know. There was no indication of a problem at that time.
I followed up myself then on January 9th and yesterday with calls to SUSI as we had not had any correspondance after Christmas.
It's amazing how much stuff has been "lost" from what I have heard. I have to say I have never had anything I ever sent in the post go missing. I work in an area where there is a huge amount of postal communication and I can count on one hand the amount of items that go missing to and from our office.

Just got a lovely letter from SUSI this morning saying I've got the full maintenance grant and 100% Fees Non Adjacent. Does anyone know if that includes my tuition fees along with my Student contribution cause that would be sexy?

Can anyone tell me when the bank details have been entered do they notify before they pay or is it a case of just checking the bank on and off?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,421 ✭✭✭AppleBottle

I was notified about my first installment by email the evening before it was put into my bank account.

I emailed SUSI and they said it would probably be the 1st of february when mine is in. But everyone is getting them at different times now so I dunno!

I'm so happy you have all gotten your grants. My hubby is still waiting to hear if he is approved. We got a letter last week dated the 23rd of August 2012, asking for all the information we have sent in three times. Am getting really fed up with the whole thing now. He hasn't missed a day in college and is ranking second in his class, but is there any point in him killing himself travelling and studying when we don't even know if his fees will be paid. :(

So today through the lovely offices of Charlie McConalogue TD [Who isn't even my TD I might add, but kindly offered to help me] I learn that I have been awarded

Postgraduate 100% Fee Contribution, contributes €2,000 towards the cost of postgraduate fees.

He was informed by someone called Bridget.

This is not what I was expecting... I was expecting my full fees to be paid because I earn under 22k and have dependent children and am on BTEA.

Then I get home to actually find a letter from SUSI saying:

    Post Graduate 100% Fee Contribution

[No mention of any amount] Now am I being foolish in believing that 100% Fee Contribution means 100% fees?

[The fees for my course are €6015]

I should be jumping up and down with joy at this stage... but I'm just not bloody sure what's going on.

Heard on the radio yesterday that two brothers who live in the same house with their parents and that applied for a susi grant, both very same circumstances. One was passed while the other was refused.

The new definition of chancing your arm should be SUSI maintenance grant
