Well, he doesn't need your address to send you money so I wouldn't give him that for a start. To send you money, all he needs is the location that you're going to pick up the money and your name.

If you want to go ahead with it and try and extract some cash from him, then find yourself some random agent that's not too near your home or your work.
    https://www.westernunion.ie/WUCOMWEB/staticMid.do?pagename=agentLocator&method=load&nextSecurePage=Y

Tell him to send the money to that agent. Don't let him choose the agent. Chances are he'll supply you with a phony transfer ID and a link to a phony tracking site, tell you that it takes 3 days for the funds to go through but ask you to send the phone ASAP.

Bring the transfer ID to the agent after the 3 days have passed and I can guarantee you they will have no record of it.

Thanks I'll give it a shot and see what happens.

I don't want to scam a scammer though. If, although highly unlikely, he sends the money then I'll send him the tablet.

He won't! Why don't you set up a new paypal account and see how he tries to get cash out of you after that?

I got this horrible, most unrealistic, hard on the eyes confirmation email from his gimmick Western Union email address.

I checked the rates for sending something to Nigeria via Registered post and it's only €5.17. I might send him something stupid just to get his hopes up thinking he's actually tracking the tablet online.

I don't know how some people get scammed by these type of idiots.

I assume that this instruction is to avoid Nigerian Customs/Import duties on the basis of it being a gift.

Therefore, perhaps the shipment would incur duties if you write "Handle with care: contains fragile electronic equipment", also "Sender: Electronics Sales Ireland Ltd.", and also "Sale price: €170.00". I'm guessing that the scammer may get suspicious if you list the value as being any higher than that, though.

Maybe a cheap €2 Tesco calculator could go in the package, to make it look slightly more legitimate, should Nigerian Customs inspect it (for instance, if the scammer makes a complaint to them that he shouldn't have to pay duty on a gift from his father).

In the old Macbook reverse scam story, wasn't there an awkward moment where the 'scammee' thought that he might be forced to pay duties/charges, if the scammer didn't pay them?

I think the awkward moment there was that he had filled a box full of crap and declared it to be worth £2000 on the box. If they had opened and inspected the package he could have gotten in legal trouble for false customs declarations or something like that.

    I found the awkward moment.

When the scammer delayed in picking up the package (and paying duty), they found out that there was the possibility of getting stuck with paying storage fees until the duty was paid.
JEFF! We have a situation! FedEX just called me (I gave them my number on the spot to contact, since yours was MIA) and asked if we had gotten a hold of the receiver. I obviously said no, and said that we were very concerned. Well, FedEX wants to know if we will pay the dues and have it delivered anyway, or we will be charged a storage fee.
I told the woman at FedEX that I would confer with you and have you contact them.
