      Met Eireann certainly not raising any expectations. Still it's too far out to warn of any possible snowfall.

      Ok I take that back. He mentioned sleet 10 times (yes, I counted) and didn't mention the snow word once. He should have mentioned possible snow on high ground IMO. He actually almost said it but stuttered and it came out at sleet :rolleyes:

      He only mentioned uncertainty for Sunday.

      can someone explain the difference between that forecast and the bbcni one?
      I mean,isit to snow in Strabane and rain in Lifford,or something ridiculous like that?
      Has it anything to do with the troika?

      One using ECM and one using UKMO as main source of info?

      ECM is only used for medium range forecasts. HIRLAM and Harmonie used for shorter ranges.

      I know,I was just being facetious .
      It's a bit dangerous ,I think personally not mentioning the possibility of snow at least in Ulster.

      Someone's going to be stone wrong.That said,one of them will change by thursday probably.

      Hmmm. GFS handling that low a bit differently at 48 hours. 10mb deeper. Looks like there is less energy going southeast there.

      He almost said it. He said 'sleet and s' paused and said sleet again.
      I believe he has a condition where he can't pronounce S+N when they are consecutive.
      Use your Words Gerry. He wouldn't even be able to say 'Sneachta'!
      'Neige' would work.

      Fu*k me, he came awful close to saying the Snow word at one stage. He said 'Sleet and some..' and then pulled out of the tackle at the last second.

      In fairness to Met, I think they are doing a good job. This is just a frigging nightmare for professional forecasters. The minute they relax we'll get the mother of all snowfalls, and they'll have seven shades of sh**e knocked out of them for not saying exactly where and when it wud happen.

      I'd settle for 2 weeks of snow (30cm plus at sea level with drifting) at this stage, as don't want to be too greedy. I'm easy whether it starts next Sunday or later next week.

      Looks like a bit of an upgrade for the east/northeast early Saturday morning. Slightly colder air.

      Short term upgrade but I'm not sure about the longer term on this run.

      EDIT: Possible 24hrs of snow for some areas of the E/NE on this run from Friday night. I keep forgetting this is the ramping thread and to stay positive!

      latest bbc news 24 forecast has radically changed the snow graphics from earlier.
      Its now well north of Dublin and mostly just east Ulster for friday

      An interesting weekend coming up for sure. Snowier for parts of Ireland if you believe the 18Z GFS. There will be plenty of changes between now and then though.
