Right so I don't know what to do here, my midfield is:

    Fellaini, Walcott, Mata, Michu, Puncheon.

Now Puncheon has the DGW, but he could only end up on 2 points per game and maybe less depending on yellow cards. But he do well both games - a couple of assists or a goal. So I don't know whether to start him or not, he is a nice sub to have on the bench to come on if there is any injuries or suspensions but that's it, the others are more reliable but I don't want to regret not putting him in for the DGW.

    Thoughts?

If you have Puncheon you should play him IMO. I'm probably dropping Walcott, think he'll struggle against City despite current form. Anyway, even if Walcott gets an assist he will likely end up on 5 points. Puncheon doing nothing in both games (AND conceding in both) will still net him 4 points.

    Worth the risk imo

Another option, you could start them all and play just 2 strikers? I have the same predicament but I have Ramirez rather than Puncheon.

I wouldn't play Puncheon. Away against a Villa team that need to sort themselves out. That's always a dangerous team and they've showed they can turn it around outta nowhere this season. Then away against a Chelsea team that also need to stop a string of bad results. Yes he could be guaranteed 4 points minimum but Walcott should be playing through the middle and can always score at home. Man City haven't exactly been the big defensive machine this year either. They have been conceding.

    Here's one.

If you had these four defenders this week, who would you start

    Begovic
    Cameron
    Federici
    Harte

Reading face West Brom (H) and Stoke face Chelsea (H).

My thinking is Begovic and Harte, based on the fact that I don't want to double up on Stoke backline against Chelsea, but I also don't want to throw all my eggs in one basket for a Reading Clean Sheet.

Cameron is out of the question as he is only good for clean sheets, whereas Harte can pick up goal/assist points, and clean sheet points.

    Thoughts?

^ exactly my thinking. i started bego harte gibbs and zaba with cameron benched

Stoke clean sheet wouldn't surprise me at all. Bego has good chance to pick up save points too. Can see Reading conceding.

I'm pretty much settled on my team now but midfield is a headwreck, wouldn't it be so much easier if there was a long term injury to Mata, Bale, Michu, Walcott or a couple of others?;):pac:

I'm literally getting to toss a coin stage, finish work in an hour and need to have it sorted by then.

    Marveaux/Neville/Guthrie + Cameron

    OR

    Puncheon (DGW) + Russell/Kilgallon/Clyne

First one is the safe option and I'd be playing Walcott. Second is a gamble...

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 36,732 ✭✭✭✭SlickRic

i decided against Puncheon and went with Marveaux.

stuck him on the bench, and just played Walcott.

it saves me worrying about the decision, and Puncheon will be pointless for a lot of the next few weeks anyway. better to get cheaper in IMO, and Marveaux will definitely play the next game or 2.

the advantage with Puncheon is he's guaranteed game time so if there are any injuries or suspensions he'll definitely come on to your team.

Yeah pretty sure I'm gonna go with this and stick my head in the sand for Southampton's games. With Tiote going to ACON hopefully he gets gametime, although it's likely he will won't get any games from me!

Worrying to be a Newcastle fan though, Ba gone and now the captain is leaving

Haha but I have Suarez, RVP and Ba up front.. I don't really wanna drop any of them.

Is there anything to be said about Chamakh? If he started regularly could be a handy cheap player at 5.4. Once you move past "Chamakh is the worst player in the world ever" and actually think about it he could suit West Ham well. Remember he did well for Arsenal when he first signed while RVP was injured. If nothing else he would be a differential :pac:

Carroll is close to returning, I'd worry about gametime.

Would you start Clyne or Mertesacker for this week?

Are Clyne owners going to play him? He could do ok against Villa. Always the chance of an assist.

He'll feature in both no doubt. But can't see him getting the full 90 in both. His physical presence would be suit the Stoke game so the general thinking is that he'll start that and come off the bench for Southampton.

probably. slight chance he'll start both. but i'll take what you said anyway. wouldn't be too surprised to see him come off the bench and score

He's well capable of it anyways. Looked very sharp when he came on the other night. With the players behind him he should get some service. Just a pity his minutes aren't easily predicted. Only for Torres' price tag I can't see him being dropped as often as he deserves to be.

Clyne for the double vs Mertesacker

I reckon you're right to lean towards Clyne. I don't see either guy being a points goldmine this week but 180 minutes of Clyne (crap and all as Southampton are defensively) has got to offer more scope for points than 90 minutes of Mertesacker v Man City, in my opinion.

City haven't scored away to Arsenal in the last few games.

Just had a mad thought of bringing in 3 defenders with short term injuries so i end up with 2-5-3 formation.

    Worth a shot?

No, because you have to play at least three defenders.
You can only play 7 attackers max. You'll score 0 for one of your non playing defenders.

Pretty sure this happened to me this season...could be wrong though.

West Ham are also after signing Brazilian forward Wellington Paulista from Cruzeiro on a 6 month loan deal with the option of a further 3 years.

Mertesacker for me. I have Gibbs and no problem picking him over a Southampton defender with a DGW. The fact the second is at Chelsea will negate it imo.

What would you all think of swapping in hazard for walcott this week (already have mata). Rafa has been rotating all over the shop but surely he has to start playing his strongest 11 more regularly.
Do ye think the spanish right back (cant spell!!) will get both games or is it likely for luiz back beside cahill and ivanovic to right back?
