Absolute tune and a half is this!

    One of my favourite covers.

Props to Slow Show and HandsomeDivil for mentioning this song earlier, which prompted me to listen to the album it's from, Tim, for the gazillionth time ever.

"I used to live at home, now I stay at the house". So many great lines. I'd love to dissect the shit out of this song some day.

If I won the Lotto I would pay J.J. Cale to sing me to sleep every night.

Have gotten back into the Replacements after hearing that!

And after hearing that song I made the progression to Big Star :D Alex Chilton <3

This then lead me to Elliott Smiths cover of Big Star, weird how it's all connected! A chilling performance.

This little tune is so mystical and amazing. I downloaded the MIDI files for this just to see how all the different harmonies work and the sounds that make them. It really is fascinating how the SNES made such striking music- Portal 2 is the only game in recent times that has anything close to the quality of these muzaks.

I think the first Big Star album might be the finest début by any band ever. The other two ain't bad either.

That is indeed a bold statement but you may not be very far off! Possibly matched, for me, by Bon Iver's "For Emma Forever Ago" or Pavements "Slanted and Enchanted" But yeah, few bands get it so right on they're first go!

I oughta give Slanted and Enchanted another listen. I remember being quite unimpressed with it the first and only time I stuck it on but I do enjoy their other work (Crooked Rain, Crooked Rain sitting top of the pile) so perhaps a re-listen is in order.

I would agree with you there, I did not like it at all when I 1st listened to it but it grew on me, the 1st two tracks in particular blew me away on 2nd and 3rd listens. Listened to Crooked Rain then and have been hooked on Pavement ever since. I think Wowee Zowee is by far their greatest album though, something about it gets me every time!

The 1st album isn't for everyone though, Crooked Rain would be more accesible, but if you give it a chance it's well worth the listen!

The new Biffy Clyro album has been given 9/10 by Rock Sound and 3/5 by the Skinny. Granted, the review on The Skinny wasn't really in-depth, but it's hard to know what to expect with that. I suppose it'll be Only Revolutions II. Claims of the new Mellon Collie are probably a bit unrealistic :( More reviews over the next couple of weeks shall be interesting, though :)

Also, new Villagers album is out on Monday, and the new Frightened Rabbit album is out in a month! :) AND my friend got us tickets to Daughter in The Button Factory AAND the Admiral Fallow gig in Cork is in just over a month and WOO! That should keep me going :D

This has been in my head..

Going to see Biffy in March, not sure what to expect of this new album to be honest, hoping it'l be decent!

Addicted to the XX at the moment, considering getting a ticket for them in June even though none of my mates will go!

On a side note, the Illnois album by Sufjan Stevens is absolutely blowing my mind these days :pac:

I'm psyched for the new Biffy album. All the songs I've heard from it so far are awesome. Though I loved Only Revolutions and Puzzle (love their old stuff too), so I'm probably going to be happy with whatever they put out to be honest :P

Would love to go see them in March, but no friends who like them enough to pay to see them and the expense of my medium term plans makes it unlikely. :(

    Mod Note:

Lads, it's been happening more and more lately, so from here on out, no quoting videos. It makes the thread take longer to load for those of us on slow internet (especially when you quote a post with multiple vids), it makes the thread look bad, and in general it's just not necessary.

So when quoting, either replace the https://www.youtube.com/watch?v= with , or just remove the video completely and write in the name of the song in the quote.

    Please and thank you. :)
