It's fine out to FI now anyway. Hopefully we'll get some nice eye candy after 180 but the main thing is there hasn't been a disaster like the 12Z GFS control run!

One day of mostly dry easterlies followed by a quick return to cool, wet NW'erlies is all the 18Z shows in reasonably reliable timeframe, looks great for some sustained cold in the UK but as usual we're too far west with the Atlantic systems always nearby. Far colder than anything in the past 3 weeks anyway though, specifics won't be fine tuned until a day or two beforehand so an interesting few days ahead

Was in the middle of updating my profile location etc then boom! It crashed!

Trying to get back onto NetWeather myself but their server must have crashed. The amount of traffic on NW this evening has been phenomenal, I think around 10 posts were being made per minute!!

Once again, the GFS delivers amazing looking FI charts. Some stunning potential there.

Very satisfactory 12z GFS. East Coast seeing -8 uppers as close as Sunday with the rest of the Country -4 to -6. No sign of a breakdown deep into FI. The most vital run now will be the 0Z ECM with hopefully a similar trend to todays 12z.

Sweet mother of God, some of those GFS charts just rolling out are unreal.................-24oC 850 temps over Norway with -8 and -12 temps well over Ireland on the 23rd January.......................all a dream I know and very unlikely to happen.........

however is the GFS picking up a trend after the recent SSW?

And people accuse net weather of going into meltdown

Plenty of frosty weather ahead with all the good stuff still well in F1.

Given the easterly influence what 850 hpa temps do we need for snow? I'm talking in particular here about this weekend. If you believe the GFS precipitation charts (I generally don't) it'll be a snow event (and in fact will snow for the next 10 days afterwards!).

Any thoughts? Will -6's do it?

Now if this scenario was still there at +72 to +96 hours I'd be tempted to.............
