    Exactly!

The post I quoted said if you travelled "80mph for 80 miles", it didnt say you stopped, slowed down etc., then you wouldnt be travelling at "80mph for 80 miles"

I've driven at speeds up to and over 80 miles per hour (oh Montana!) on sparsely populated highways (oh Montana!). Going at a constant rate of speed, I still dealt with the car being pulled due to wind, the shifting of gears because of hills and mountains, and other variables that resulted in 80 MPH not equating to an hour of travel. Maybe an hour and a few minutes.

That's fine, and I understand the concept of variables and the effect they have, but the simple fact of the matter is that is that if you travel anywhere in anything at a constant speed of 80mph you will travel 80miles in one hour. It's not called "miles per hour" for the laugh!

Do you include the distance travelled before you reached the required speed of 80 mph ?

Your speed is either constant or it is not. In the hypothetical the speed is constant. In your fascinating Montana anecdote the speed is not. Sorry your story isn't relevant.

It's a simple rate of measurement.

When you go to Subway and buy a footlong, do you honestly believe that every footlong is actually a footlong or 12 inches?

    You can't dig a half a hole.

It is relevant because the speedometer remains at 80 MPH which is what people use to determine their rate of speed.

Its hard to know what should be done with people like her. She's not incapable enough to belong in a psychiatric institution, but at the same time she's not intelligent enough to function fully in society. She has a welfare life ahead of her either way.

I don't know, I don't normally whip out the ruler to measure, but if they advertised them as all foot longs are a constant of 12in, well then yes I would. Just like I'm saying the speed would need to be constant, hypothetical situation obviously, very difficult/near impossible to achieve driving on a motorway.

has anyone verified that the speedometer is accurate, it may be showing 80, but the actual speed could be +/- 5 or 6.

that would have a bearing on the distance travelled

It's a simple case of male chauvinism and a good bit of sour grapes mixed in this thread because all the rest of the male thread viewers don't agree with it.

The video is clearly about driving, therefore it is impossible under normal road usage [speed limit aside for the mo] to actually do 80 miles in one hour driving at 80 mph.

I can only conclude that those males who are mad in this thread are really mad that a girl is actually smarter than them in attempting to reach the correct formula to answer the question.

I'm opening a beer. How many replies will there be before I has it finished?

I think we are in agreement. When they make a footlong sub, they probably roll out the bread and cut it at the 12 inch mark. Some people may cut it just a centimeter or two short of a foot. Or, someone didn't let the bread rise long enough and the chain assumes that the bread reaches the 12 inch mark upon rising. Then again, maybe it's the oven that impacts whether a twelve inches of dough becomes or remains 12 inches of bread. The point is, you still buy a 12 inch sub because that is the standard measurement used by the chain, but there are variables that impact whether or not you got yourself 12 inches of goodness.

I think some people simply lacks the gene that allows them to understand the concept of hypotheticals.

Dunno, if we take Star Trek Enterprise, any number ABC or D and the Captain ordering say warp 9 and he asks his science officer how long will it take to get there, seeing as they are only nine light years away the answer seems painfully obvious, no. [?]

Well we don't get nine minutes as the answer do we, no we don't. Is that hypothetical enough? :)

You must have watched the video at a faster speed, i.e video second < actual second, so how long would it take to go 80 miles at 80mph of those time intervals ?

Was she correct ? Was the guy correct ? Am I interested ? . . . sadly yes.

Listen, if you are driving at 80mph constantly for eighty miles ot will take you an hour by definition. What's the problem?

Warp 9 isn't nine times light speed, warp is warping space time so they probably get there in 12.34 hours by Spocks estimation.
