but seriously, look at this from your own clubs perspective, City want Sterling, refuse to pay you compensation so the deal does not take place, Sterling spends all summer with City then at the last minute signs for Liege, and at the first opportunity he signs for City. Giving you nothing. Is it right?

Though Sterling is actually a product of another academy I think? Point stands its not right and its going to be smaller clubs that lose out if something isnt done to ensure it wont happen again

    I'm not saying it's fair.

It's a situation carefully exploited by Spurs but was it illegal?

Then what you're saying is that practically no PL manager would have the right to complain about this sort of thing because they've all tapped players up before and are hypocrites. It doesn't work like that.

It's been already clarified that Spurs have done nothing illegal, I don't think anybody has tried to claim otherwise. It doesn't mean what they did wasn't underhanded and against the spirit of the rules.

He can complain but as it's not illegal it's a moot point.

I would consider tapping up underhand also.

Who exactly has claimed it was illegal?

Tapping up is underhand but generally very subtle (if it's done right!) and it's near impossible to stop so there isn't really much point in complaining about it. What Spurs did is blatant though, and could more than likely be easily proven. I think rules could be brought in to prevent it happening in the future, unlike with tapping up.

Fergie calling for the FA to look into it, stop the registration and examine the paper/phone trail.

If it's legal(which it is) what grounds has he on asking for this?

Fergie has a moan and all the ManU supporters want Spurs punished for something that wasnt illegal!

He asked to stop the registration? where? didnt read that

calling for the FA to look into it and following records etc is fine, hopefully they can put something in place to stop this kind of flagrant rule bending in future

Putting something in place fair enough, stopping the registration no. Just needs to suck this one up and screw Spurs over in the next deal with them!
"It is a blatant manipulation of the situation. They tried to buy him from us at the end of last season but we couldn't agree terms. Then they took him on trial, came back from Portugal and said they couldn't afford him.

"All of a sudden he signed for Standard Liege but I expected him to go to Tottenham in the January window.

"The league should look into it. They should stop the registration until they examine it. There will be a trail. Either mobile phones or something. It is obvious to me."

I doubt a jury would take too long to come to a conclusion.

    You for one!

Why does everyone go berserk everytime Fergie opens his cake-hole. His outbursts are generally self-serving and getting increasingly incoherent IMO ( RVP nearly killed etc).FWIW it looks like Spurs pulled a fast one but there are many examples of Ally and Utd playing fast and loose where rules are concerned, so suck it up and move on I say.

Ah right, he said they should stop it while they look into it, not outrageous, pointless though I would imagine.

Lol, how is that claiming Spurs should be punished?

That was clearly an idiom which demonstrated how obvious it was that Spurs had an arrangement with Liege in the Summer. Nothing got to do with calling for punishment to be dished out to Spurs.

For clarity sake - as a United fan

Well done Spurs on exploiting the rules

You did nothing illegal so punishment is not required.

You did come up with something that is underhand though. With that in mind the deal should be investigated so rules can be put in place to protect clubs going foreward.

Fryers is a young lad and doesn't need this thing over his head. It shows the compensation system needs to be sorted for over 18s pretty quickly, so its fair for clubs and players.

No where there does it say for definite that he is off to Arsenal. It only says that Arsenal are preparing a bid of £8 million for him.

He has already been shown up as not the transfer market guru already
What utter shíte. Our improvement under his guidance has been phenomenal. Yes, like everyone there have been poor buys, but a lot of those poor buys came when a certain Mr Comolli was contracted by the club. By and large, and more so of recent, Levy has been getting a fantastic return from transfers, especially when selling, as a certain Mr Ferguson can attest to.

Also, Fergie getting his knickers in a twist over the whole Fryers situation is quite amusing. He wasn't exactly Mr Morality during the whole Pogba transfer, or have some United fans forgotten about that?? And I'm absolutely certain that if one were to go digging there would be more questionable transfers made by the big man.

Anyway, back to transfer news, a lot of talk (yet again) linking Damiao to Spurs, apparently a fee has been agreed which also includes Gomes going in the opposite direction. Fantastic news if true, but we've been linked with him for a while now and I've already given up hope on it happening. Would think a bigger club would be making their move after his recent exploits.

It hardly matters if Fergie is a saint for me to point out that the transfer is dodgy, I dont understand why Spuds fans cant just accept that. What difference does it make?

No punishment should be given to them as it is not illegal, but steps should be taken to ensure it does not happen again.

I wouldnt mind McCarthy coming to United actually if he keeps progressing, maybe let the feeder club take him for a couple of years first ;)

What are you on about man? Talking about problems with comprehension..... Half the United fans and more seem to be okay with the transfer, he's an average player according to you, the reason ye are arguing it is because "if it was the other way around the forum would be up in arms". Of course it matters if Ferguson is a saint or not, do you get in a huff when ever Fergus conducts a dodgy transfer? It seems to me that you need to get over it, build a bridge, dry your eyes and just get over it.

Send him to us, buy only if ye promise to buy him later ;) We'll let ye deal with Monsieur Levy again, he's not exactly a transfer guru anyway. Ye can go for a round 4.
