What are you on about man? Talking about problems with comprehension..... Half the United fans and more seem to be okay with the transfer, he's an average player according to you, the reason ye are arguing it is because "if it was the other way around the forum would be up in arms". Of course it matters if Ferguson is a saint or not, do you get in a huff when ever Fergus conducts a dodgy transfer? It seems to me that you need to get over it, build a bridge, dry your eyes and just get over it.

Send him to us, buy only if ye promise to buy him later ;) We'll let ye deal with Monsieur Levy again, he's not exactly a transfer guru anyway. Ye can go for a round 4.

Try to understand, it matters not one little bit to me what Fergie thinks of the deal, it doesnt change my opinion of it, funnily enough I am able to form my own. This transfer stinks, United dont care about Fryers, nor do United fans, he is not the issue I care about either

The training compensation rules were brought in to protect smaller clubs losing their brightest talents for nothing. For Spurs to show such a lack of respect for the rule is wrong. Doesnt matter what way you dress it up and at the moment, they did nothing illegal so I dont want them to be punished in any way.

The system needs to better protect itself from stuff like this in the future.

    Its very very simple.

I am not up in arms over anything actually, just calling the situation as I see it.

Edit: and yes, if it was the other way around there would be uproar, that is pretty obvious too

Where are Hull getting the money from? Heard they were after Frazier Campbell for 7m also.

Alfred N'Diaye on the way to Sunderland to talk terms. Looks an absolute beast of a player. Central midfielder, big and powerful. Surprised to see O'Neill looking abroad but pleased. Looks to be exactly the type of player we're missing.

Also looks like we'll sign Roland Juhasz from Anderlecht. Center half who has played 200 games for them and has 76 caps for Hungary. 6 foot 4, fits the mould of an O'Neill center half in that he's just there to defend and get the ball away. Looks like he could work very well alongside O'Shea.

    Those two signings seem promising.

I presume Fergie is annoyed that Spurs quite clearly didn't want to meet the fee United wanted so they went to Liege and asked them to buy him on the cheap, and that they would then purchase him off Liege in Jan, with Liege making a profit, Spurs not having to pay Utd want they wanted and the added bonus of screwing Utd over.

I get why he's unhappy, Levy ran them over on this one. What I'm not getting is the legal or procedural basis for an FA Investigation? Sometimes you lose in business, that's life.

but seriously, look at this from your own clubs perspective, City want Sterling, refuse to pay you compensation so the deal does not take place, Sterling spends all summer with City then at the last minute signs for Liege, and at the first opportunity he signs for City. Giving you nothing. Is it right?

Though Sterling is actually a product of another academy I think? Point stands its not right and its going to be smaller clubs that lose out if something isnt done to ensure it wont happen again

Clubs will lose out if they place an unrealistic price on the player while they still hold their registration. Utd wanted a fee higher than the player's market value. Spurs decided to get the deal done another way. If Utd were more flexible to begin with they'd have pocketed their fee.

Also, Utd don't receive nothing - they receive a small percentage of the fee Spurs are paying to Liege.

There is a specific tribunal that's in place when two English clubs can't decide a fee for an out of contract youth player.

That's the step that is taken by every other club that I can remember in that situation, except Spurs.

And I don't see it as some sort of masterstroke on the part of Spurs, I'm sure every single chairman/chief executive worth their salt know and have known what Spurs did, can be done - it's not rocket science. But instead they chose to respect the spirit of the rules in place and not act in an underhand manner.

Would this be the same Chairmen/cheif executives who tap players up? Fergies tapped players up numerous times, where was his high regard for rules and protocols then?

Tapped up who? Who has he actually tapped up? That's a pretty libellous statement to make especially considering the recent share scandal involving Boards!

    Some people just don't think.

Didn't Jaap Stam admit in his autobiography that Ferguson tapped him up?

Edit - Quite a few times players have said the same.
Dutch defender Jaap Stam claimed in his autobiography that he had been tapped up by Fergie when he was playing for PSV. The two men apparently had a John le Carre-esque secret rendezvous in a safe house near Amsterdam airport without PSV's knowledge in 1998. Within months, Stam was a United player.

And if reports down the years are to be believed, Fergie has something of a penchant for chatting up Dutch players - especially if they played for PSV.

As well as Stam, Ruud van Nistelrooy alleged he had many cosy chats with the United boss before his transfer and PSV were enraged when they discovered their winger Arjen Robben had visited Old Trafford without their knowledge.

PSV Eindhoven chairman Harry van Raaij said: "It is Ferguson's way of doing business but it is not my way.

"You can look back and see similarities to what happened with Stam and Van Nistelrooy. It just seems that, with Ferguson, a leopard never loses its spots."

It is a view doubtless shared by former Aston Villa boss John Gregory. He accused Fergie of tapping up his striker Dwight Yorke , who eventually moved to United for a £12m fee in 1998.

One man Fergie did fail to get his hands on, however, is Phillippe Mexes . The French defender claimed last year that he was invited to Old Trafford for a look round while he was contracted to Auxerre.

Mexes found himself at the centre of another tapping up row when he signed a four-year contract with Roma in 2004 – without the agreement of his club.

Ferguson and Stam didn't end on good terms. Jaap Stam made lots of allegations in his book. Also he returned to the club in 08 and stated a lot of his book was taken out of context.

It was probably the silliest book a professional has ever written in terms of timing.

agents and clubs do it all the time. Circumvent the rules, 2 third parties acting on behalf of the club / the players' agents kinda thing.

That's how a lot of players have agreed terms with the clubs - before a fee has been agreed between buying and selling clubs

You can't solely point the finger at Ferguson for that.

That doesn't prove a thing. Neither player finished on good terms with Ferguson.

I'd take a swing and say that 99% of transfers involve some level of tapping up.

By known you mean Stam stated it. That doesn't prove a thing considering what Stam wrote in that book.

    Poor effort tbh.

Would someone really write that they were tapped up in a book if they weren't? You could be opening yourself up a serious can of worms

It happens all the time in football.

But sure it's very hard to prove tapping up and I already did state that it happens all the time.

I'm just not one to make allegations after what happened with USOP recently.

Fair enough but another load of examples from other players also exists. I don't think it's any stretch to say that Ferguson has tapped up players in the past. It obviously also happens quite regularly at other clubs. Liverpool most notably have had to apologise this season already over it. The problem I have is that I think if you're going to involve yourself in such dealings then you don't have the right to be publically calling out other clubs over conduct in regards transfer dealings. Let he who is without sin cast the first stone etc etc. It feels like if you involve yourself in the game then you should learn to live with the fallout both good and bad.

Of course they do. Clubs aren't going to go through the effort of negotiating a fee for a particular player if that player isn't one bit interested in signing for them in the first place!

Bringing up the tapping up stuff is just a deflection from the topic at hand. None of us would be able to complain about anything in life if others just pointed out other stuff we've done inappropriately in the past. Everybody's a 'hypocrite' at some stage or another, why people feel the need to bring it up as if it negates another complaint is beyond me.

Can't argue with that. I don't think United are claiming about him being tapped up. I think it's more a complaint to plug a hole in a gap that Levy has exposed. I haven't followed the story that closely in the past number of days.

Levy got the best deal for his club. But I still can't believe they went to all that trouble for Zeki.

That's also true. I think the main issue here is that Spurs went to a lot of bother to pay less compensation to United.

Had that happened to a Crewe or Forest Green or Peterborough United etc. it would of been grossly unfair. That's my problem.

While we are on the subject of not thinking - do you have evidence that spurs had originally planned all of this with Leige? You have no proof it simply wasn't just a coincidence that happened exactly like Leige and Spurs claimed it did.

My point isn't about him not being able to point out certain things because of other wrongs he may have committed.

If the two weren't so interrelated within a world that I think everyone is aware of what goes on but everyone turns a blind eye with the victor usually being the club who can play the rules best. My problem is that I think it's all part of the game and that Ferguson knows that better than anyone and when he calls out Spurs here then he breaks generally accepted fourth wall.

I remember when Ronaldo was apparently tapped up by Madrid, Ferguson was furious but I think he was probably made aware that listen if you play the game I don't think you can complain too much when you get burn. Part of all this brinkmanship in transfers is nod and wink stuff with rules getting bent as far as people can get away with it. If you're going to involve the police then maybe it's a good idea that you don't also deal.
