everyone is a bit racist. I used to have a black girlfriend and have plenty of friends of other races but ive told racist jokes in my time and still make racist remarks as a joke occasionally but i dont mean any harm by it. i dont think people of any other race are below us, i just make the joke if the opportunity arises. all in the name of fun i never mean any harm by it and thats why id only do it in private where the people around know its only a joke.

I really don't agree with this. I know lots of people who are not in anyway racist. I don't see how you telling jokes proves your hypotheses?

It was so much easier to blame it on Them. It was bleakly depressing to think that They were Us. If it was Them, then nothing was anyone's fault. If it was us, what did that make Me? After all, I'm one of Us. I must be. I've certainly never thought of myself as one of Them. No one ever thinks of themselves as one of Them. We're always one of Us. It's Them that do the bad things.

Does that mean that you are inferring all Irish people are racist? Since only a racist would make a racist remark.

no, really what i was trying to say is not everyone that makes a racist remark is actually racist. people just take it too seriously sometimes.

    No.

I genuinely know lots of people who are not in any way racist. Extrapolating that the entire population is a little bit racist because you tell racist jokes makes no sense at all.

I don't believe that any group of people besides the Irish should live in Ireland. I am deemed the R-word for that but that's ridiculous because I believe all people should have a space exclusive for themselves large enough to sustain their long term survival. When i look at any other group on the planet let's pick the black african's because i can see that they have an exclusive space large enough for their people's long term sustenance. Now if there was massive non-black immigration into a hypothetical black man's country i would not call him the R-word for objecting to it after all how long would it still be his country if he did not object, i would not try and persuade him that his people's face no alteration socially because that's a lie, or religiously or genetically because that would be a lie.
I would think it right out insane for anyone to call him a racist for objecting to the alteration of his people and his nation.
Go ahead use your silly little hyped up buzz words to try and scare me away or anyone reading this who agrees. But as the OP knows only to well most people feel this way and no matter the jargon you try and persuade us with we won't be sold your house of cards forever.

Well the OP doesn't know that only too well, seeing as it's not true.

Madam X the OP believes in a lie the lie is the R-word can i convince him/her that's a lie in just one post, so let's play along with the terminology see if we can grasp any real understanding.

So I can assume you are one of the few Irish people in existence to have no family members past or present ever immigrate?

Racisim is not a lie, it is a fact.

So it's your opinion versus my opinion on how people think. We won't get anywhere on that issue. Do you believe it's racist for a black man to want an area exclusive for his peoples large enough to sustain their long term survival, it seems you think that is racist what's racist about that?

Do you have any stats to back up this statement ? Or is it just an opinion ? How many convictions have there been for racism in Ireland in the last 5 years ? Not many I would think, as we are a very welcoming bunch us Irish.

What if a person has given all the people he/she ever meets a fair chance BUT time and time again has bad experiences with certain nationalities ? What if a person has come to the conclusion that certain nationalities in their experience are bringing nothing but bad experiences, arrogance, ignorance, aggression to them and their neighbours and after 10 years have come to the conclusion " I dont think I like that particular nationality of people I dont want to be around them" Does that make the person a racist ? OR are we free to like or dislike whoever we choose ?

No, that makes them xenophobic. But that you conflate countries and races makes you racist.

Yes to both. People can dislike whoever they want but the moment that they start discriminating on the basis of ethnicity then they're racist

Reekwind What do you call it when you impose conditions on a race that brings about the DESTRUCTION of that race?

Maybe a bit off topic, but why is oriental an archaic and offensive term? My brother bought the ma an oriental rug from the far east when he was travelling some years ago ... and the term oriental rug is quite common.

And I have to say that your final remark is quite condescending and patronising.

Without wishing to come across as patronising again; rugs are somewhat different to people, dixie.

Would you have known that word oriental was considered incorrect if
you hadn't of met your Japanese wife?

A lot of the people here are confused oriental means east should we get
offended if people call us westerners?

What's wrong is people claiming the status qou is fine because it's always been.

How do you want Ireland to "stay Irish" exactly? Should my wife never have gone there? My mom stayed in her own country? My great great etc grandfather never come over from Scotland?

How the flaming heck do you "stay Irish"?

The world is in a state of flux; we move, we emigrate and we mix.

    Get over it, it's life.
