Interested in trying this out so downloaded it. Have some strange issues though. I see no server names and the text at the character creation screen has a strange format e.g. ##UI.create character

Searched online for a solution an applied the .dll fix but it didn't work. I'm running windows 8 on an Alienware M17x laptop which runs in crossfire mode. Also my dpi for windows is set at 100% which was another suggestion I found to fix the issue. Anyone got any ideas?

    Cheers

Had the same issue. On the bottom right corner of the game launcher you'll see a language select bar. Change it from English to any other language and then change it back to English. You should be fine then.

Dunno about the other servers, but I've been getting a lot of CTD on Miller recently, as well as a return of the flickery landscape bug. Damn shame too, I was having so much fun watching those TR Mosquitoes panic every time my targeting reticule went green. Didn't even fire half the time... :pac:

Triple are quite rare from what I've seen so I'll be doing some topping up (need to pimp my Mag!).

I picked up the Serpent(?) a week ago (the VS fast machine gun, insane rof one, 30 mag) to compliment my LA's shotgun and I swear at times I think it outdamages the shotgun at 2m range... It's a lovely gun though; I'm 60ish kills away from finishing silver medal with it (ammo and front grip mods) and I find myself running around with it more than the shotgun (I pull the shotty when I expect to go pure close combat so Bio domes, Tech back door assaults/defences etc.).

Hey guys downloading this game at the moment. Never played it before and I'm looking for a team/clan/outfit to join to try and improve on the basics. Are any of you guys in a Boards outfit?

There is no boards outfit as far as I know and there are a set of starter videos that are strongly recommended to go through at the start. It's a bit of a steep learning curve (but nothing like old Eve) but the basic rule is anything with blue triangle above head is friendly, shot everyone else :P

Haha yeah I've been looking at a few vids. Steep learning curves are good, I just hope I find people to play with because from the videos I have watched, this seems like a game that is not meant to be played alone!

EDIT: Can I make characters on NA and EU because one of the communities I have a big involvements in (teamliquid.net) have a strong US East Outfit?

@IRL Sinister - Yes you can make characters on any server in any region. Only 1 Char per server and to make a new one on the same server you have to delete the old one.

gotta be careful with that one, some friendlies may not be tagged correctly ( have no blue triangle ).... if you hear a beep, stop shooting at it...

One thing to remember though, friendly fire does happen, and sooner or later you will die to it...or kill friendlies:(

New Conglomerate Lightning tank is a great light tank for Skirmishing, it's very quick and it's cannon has a higher rate of fire with the 6 rounds until it needs reloading. The outpost outside the NC Warpgate in Erasmir was overrun with Vanu Hovertanks and personally destroyed about 2 of them with Hit and Run style tactics.

Only as a FYI but all lightening tanks are the same on all factions currently :)

And today's deal is 15% off all vehicles guns so I've pimped my Van a bit and bought the Skyguard for the Lightening in the hope it will get a buff down the line.

I've concluded SoE flipping hate me (it's double exp from Friday 21st to Jan 2nd and I'll be away most of the time with family) :(

If you can play I'd strongly recommend the 50% booster as you'll get double value out of it for the duration though.

For the 21st you can get 3x the seven cash you buy.

    Says
Triple-SevenCash-Event, treble all your SevenCash purchases until the end of time!

valid till 29:59 on the 21st?

works on central European time so not for another 30 minutes

Edit: Ah the Mayans and the end of the world, that explains the until the end of time thing.

Came across a fix the other night for the constant crashing in the game, I'll post a link when i get home from work, but essentially you force planetside2.exe to use 3 gb of ram, hasn't entirely fixed the problem, but I've gone from 5-6 crashes a night to 1 crash a night, but that's graphics card overheat issue.

    So....

I've played now for about an hour and I feel that I'm not going to continue if I don't play with others who can teach me how to actually play the game.

I'm willing to create a new character if I need to.

I understand that there isn't a PS2 Boards.ie clan as such but what would I need to do in order to play with some of you guys ?

    Cheers!

I should have mentioned that I've spent more time watching Youtube videos than actually playing the game :)

It just gets to a stage where you gain 'battlesense' only by playing with a good team/squad.

Perhaps I should start a PS2 "Things you wish you had known when you started playing" :)

meh... in the wake of a dying laptop, can no longer play ps2 :(...

however on a brighter note, the last parts for my shiney new pc are due to arrive next week :D

I need to do some fiddling with the settings. Game is a big of a resource hog, and its a little stuttery as the game auto deteced everything to high, need to tone that **** down for smoother gameplay.

So far impressed, bit of a mad entrance, getting dropped into battles not knowing what the **** is going on. My first entrance into the game was to spawn and die a second later.

Its an interesting concept. I stuck with it for about an hour in total, and part of that was being hammered in a base, until some dude took the ****ing reigns and started instructing squads what to do and where to go, and we launched a MASSIVE counter offensive. The scope and scale was nothing I've ever witnessed in a game, it was breathtaking.

However the game looks SEVERELY reliant on communication, co ordination and maturity of players to accept responability, which unfortunately doesn't work online, unless your in a níche game like Arma.

Will play it a little bit alright, but cant see it being underwhelming if it juts everoyne going gung ho.

Best bet is to get involved with an outfit, the level of communication jumps a few notches then...running around solo, while sometimes fun, you dont feel that you can accomplish much at all.

Oh I don't know, running as a medic with fully upgraded tools I can get people back in the fight with in 1s of dying at full health to keep the zerglings going (esp. if combined with anti flak armor to ensure you survive 95% of those 'nades that kills most of your side regularly).

Press alt+f. This will display your FPS but also show either CPU or GPU. Whichever shows is where the bottleneck is. I found a reasonable increase was gained by changing the .ini and setting render distance to 1000 (really doesn't change much visually). There are other tweaks depending on whether you're GPU or CPU blocked. The game is currently heavily dependant on the CPU. I haven't been bothered checking as I don't play a lot anymore (bored already) but some people suggest if you tweak the .ini to make the game play in ultra (which isn't available through the main menu I think) then it forces load onto the GPU and can help.

Gave another few hours last night, its slowly growing on me. I dropped the settings down to medium, and have to say the game looks crusty, but I dont mind aslong as its smooth.

You can't play a twitch fps without it being perfectly smooth.

Last nights deployment put me right into the capture of an area, before we moved, in organised force to capture an area known as "The Crown". We traveresed the bridge with little resistance, turning a corner to reveal the steep uphill bottleneck, being rained upon by rockets and sniper fire.

It was intense, it was epic. Unfortunately, as expected, the calibre of player, and cohesion between my allies was rubbish, like kids wanting yo play CoD, and the assault took nearly an hour to organise. Everyone seemed to pick sniper, then they just all sat in this little rock cover sniping away, making no ground.

I eventually got my squad to flank out wide, and we smashed through the enemies right flank to make waves into the capture point. Unfortunately the other squads werent responding, and we lost the grund we made, so I said **** that and left.

An amazing concept, incredible scale, that 100% relies on players being mature, responsible and cohesive with each other, which is most likely going to be its downfall.

I'm enjoying giving it an hour here and there, want to get the FPS and stuff nice before I start putting sessions into it.

Would love to hook up with some people who are interested in playing the game properly, and preferably have some experience of something like Arma II, and not CoD :D

Well that base is a known hell hole to take Doc (sitting at a point that will end up a three way 95% of the time as well). Best route I've found is to take B and C with LA.
