Is there any way of making the heart rate display larger on the 305 ???

Isn't it one of the selectable data fields? So you could have heart rate (or HR avg, or HR/lap) on screen and nothing else, if you liked.

I tried that and nothing came up, at the moment its a tiny number in the top right of the screen and its really hard to see when running !

In the menu screen, go to General -> Data Fields -> Main 1.

    Choose 4 data fields.

Your screen will be split into 4 equal sized areas. You choose what each of these
fields will be. Choose HR for one of these fields.

If you only want 3 fields, then do that. One of the field will fill the upper half od the screen, if you want it that big.

    Hi all,

Due to unwittingly throwing my 405 in the bin and it being collected by the binmen last week I decided to splash out and got myself a new 610.

One question I have.... on the 405 if I had a schedule saved to the device all I had to do was tap the bezel twice to get that particular days workout.

How do I do this with the 610?!!

    Many thanks

    The Rook

How far have you got ? Can you select and change a data field ?

You should see a list of about 20 options - everything that the 305 can display - GPS accuracy, pace, lap pace, time, distance etc etc. HR, average HR, lap HR are all in this list of options.

Are you wearing your HRM strap? It shuts itself off, when not in use.

The buttons on my Garmin 305 are not working properly any more, the down arrow and the enter button, anyone know if this can be fixed? (or do i get a new one for my birthday next week??)

Sounds like it needs to be taken apart an cleaned. Unfortunately, the 305 case is glued together, so isn't really designed to be taken apart. ... But, if you can't use the watch properly without the non-functional buttons and the alternative is to bin it, then it would be worth having a go.

Before that though, try a toothbrush (use someone else's!) and some warm soapy water and try and clean around the buttons. If that doesn't work, try and prise the two halfs of the case apart. They're stuck together using a silicon glue, so if you can get a scalpel or sharp pointy knife, it may help. Here's a guide to putting it back together.

Thanks Krusty, i'll have a go at the cleaning first before i try and prise it open...just dumped all the old toothbrushes as Santy bring new ones:rolleyes:, so i'll rescue one!!

I'm having an issue with a SW update on my new 410 and I need some advice.

I got it for christmas and uploaded my runs so far to garmin connect for the first time this morning. I was advised to download v2.3 of the firmware.
I did this and the message said it was downloaded to the ANT and the ANT would transfer it to the watch and it would take some time. I left it alone for ages and didn;t pay much attention to the screen, but I am sure I saw a message which suggested that the transfer was complete and i removed the ANT from the laptop.

Now, the watch is hung. The screen says software loading and it is not responding to the buttons or bezel. I put the ANT back in the laptop again and left it for a while ( we all know that if you stare at a broken computer for a while, it might magically fix itself).

I am guessing that I removed the ANT before the SW update was complete.

Should I do a hard reset?

You should try a soft reset first. The problem is that if you interrupted a firmware update, you may have bricked the device, in which case you'll need to send it back to Garmin for a warranty fix/replacement.

    Soft Reset. Master Reset.

    Thanks.

soft reset seems to have worked and the software version is still 2.2

I'll try the update another time.

    Hi,

Wondering if anyone is experiencing a similar issue as below with Garmin forerunner 10 and if there is a solution.

Has been taking an inordinate amount of time to find satellite location, up to five minutes, and has now got even worse.....yesterday lost patience and started run before location was found. Was exactly 1 mile into run before it started working.

Anybody else have this issue with the Garmin 10?

    Thanks

It could be that your almanac (log of satellite data) has become corrupted. It might be worth performing a hard reset, and the taking the watch outside for 20 minutes to allow it to download the latest satellite path information. Please bear in mind that performing a hard reset will erase all user data and settings/config from the watch.

The only time I have tried to use my 305 in St. Stephens Green, it took 10/15 minutes to lock. Plenty of tall building to block the line of sight.

    Hi,

I was out for a run yesterday and I did not lock the bezel on my forerunner 4005cx. When I got back to base, I had inadvertently triggered a gps setting that I had not seen before. It displayed a compass on screen.

I dried the bezel, went back into training and stopped the watch. However, since, I cant turn off the GPS and it is always on this locating satellites screen even though I am indoors. I have tried resetting the watch (quit + enter), but this has not worked for me.

Basically when I go into training / gps it is always trying to locate satellites and I cant turn this off. Any ideas folks?

Sounds like you may have one of the navigation options inadvertently enabled. Go into the GPS menu and select 'Stop Navigating' or however the option is worded.

Thanks Krusty_Clown, the problem is I cant even access the menu, because every time I try to get into the GPS / Training Menus, I just get this locating satellites screen, with the processing bar underneath. There seems to be no way to clear this off the screen. Unless there is another way to access the GPS menu.

Normally you can dismiss this screen, by briefly tapping the bezel.

OK, I've tried that but it brings me to another screen that has a compass on it and the words To Location in the top right. In the middle it displays
_ . _ _ mi. Hmmm I suppose this is actually my problem, I cant seem to navigate away from whatever this option is.

That's the navigation screen I was referring to. Try hitting the lap button to go back a screen, then select Stop Navigating.

I bought a Garmin 610 over Christmas and i've started to run with it.

The only issue is whenever i start a run as in just press start on outside it immediately says run for 5 mins and rest for one minute like i am in a workout. I have gone into workouts to try and stop this but nothing changes?

    What am i doing wrong?

    Thanks!

    Ian

Hi Ian, perhaps you have setup the watch for run/walk breaks? Have a look at the manual here (well worth reading) and Page 9 describes how to turn off 'Walk Break Alerts'.

Forerunner 305 doesn't support data transfer by ANT stick. It only supports data transfer by cable.

Maybe I've missed this before but, training Plans added to Garmin Connect:
Can be viewed here once you log in.
Beginner, Intermediate and Advanced Plans for 5k, HM and Marathon, haven't had a chance to go through them yet.
