Just how small change will they take in one transaction? i.e. 1,2,5,10, and 20c pieces. To much hassle counting and bagging it all, then queuing for the 2 or 3 manned desks at the bank, and don't fancy giving some counting machine manufacturer/Centra 9% of it.

I usually go down the bank route, or occasionally to Centra if in rush. What do the rest of the good people of AHs do?

They take up to e100 from what I have seen (mostly coppers and a few 10s). Put as much in as you can, and then just move to the next machine, then repeat etc etc. Can't believe people actually pay for this service!

I love those machines for getting rid of change. They take quite a bit. I hate having tons on change in my wallet.

I divide it among the 100 or so people who ask me for money every week in town.

I did try this at a self service machine at a london train station was, payment was rejected once I reached £20. Have only every put in about a tenner in change in the Tescos machines, although that did contain a few 50c + coins.

Surely it's less hassle to bag them up than it is to feed hundreds of them into a coin-slot?

I have heard though if you put in too many of the one type of coin at once, it will reject.

The tesco machines use a hopper instead of a coin slot, it's designed to take a handful of change at a time.

I just use the self service Tesco checkouts. They have a handy little basket but they're really slow at counting.

I know the asda ones in the UK take a fair amount, I usually use them to offload as much change as possible then pay the balance with debit card.

I remember being in Sydney once trying to pay for two train tickets with a load of change. Machines had a 20 coin limit so went up to the counter. Fcuking jobsworth also insisted on only accepting a certain amount of coins. Solution: Went up twice and bought the two tickets as two separate transactions. End result: Wasted time and still handed over the same amount of coins I would have in a single transaction.

    Unexpected Item in Baggage Area!

Did you ever place a bag in the baggage area and get that warning? Surely a bag is something you'd expect to find in a bagging area?

Well 15-20 euro worth of coin, had to pay it over 5-6 handfulls. Balance paid with notes. On the plus side, with the notes had over paid by a couple of Euro, change included 50c and €1 pieces, rather than all the shrapnel I paid in.

Some woman was using an entire trolley through it in my local dunnes. Was hilarious when she couldn't fit more in the bagging area. Has a sign saying no trolleys as well!

I hate that people don't put bags on first and bag items as they scan.

So they scan first, which takes ages. Then pay and then bag the stuff.

Whatever you do, don't just feck it all into the machine in one go. Learnt that the hard way.

Because the tescos ones will say unexpected item in bagging area.

I scan the first item, place it in the bag, and place the open bag in the bagging area. The sensors will simply think this is your first item, then place each item straight into bag after scanning.

Might only save a minute or two, but if everyone done that it would speed everything up, and stop people trying to use the machine before you have finished, or even started bagging.

Why don't we get a discount for using those machines. Considering we're doing some work for them we should get paid.

Next they'll want us to go out to the stockroom and get the shopping from there save on shelf stackers.

Well I know in Superquinn it will ask if you have own bag/box. Tought Tesco did too.

    People still don't pack first.

Because the machines cost a lot of money and are there for your convenience.

You don't have to use them if you don't want to.

In the future we'll be helping unload the trucks and stack the shelves before we can take our shopping to the automated checkout.

    Just weigh everything as onions.

176€ worth of shopping, including all your meat and baby food etc comes in at around €3.54 (allegedly)

    Take that Tesco!:pac:

NB please don't do the above as robbing is bad mmmmkay?
