It looked to me like Walcott's free kick was going to be on target. By the letter of the law it should have been credited to him, but everywhere I've checked so far has it down as an OG. It might yet be re-credited to him at the next dubious goals panel meeting..

But it wasn't a shot. If a keeper gets massive distance on a wind assisted goal kick and a defender heads it in, is it the keeper's goal? Of course not.

You can bet your last euro if it went in direct from the free Theo and everybody else would claim it was a shot. They'd certainly have credited him for the goal anyway.

If someone crosses the ball and makes a mess of it so that it ends up going into the goal, should they not be credited with it? It wasn't a shot after all, right? On target before hand, it should be the attackers goal regardless of shot, pass, cross etc.

We can forget about Ba anyway, Chelsea have triggered the release clause.

Can't remember who we bought in the last January window at all. Anyone?
Wouldn't surprise me if this dragged on and we bought either a young inexperienced lad or nobody at all.

Jamie Sanderson reporting on twitter that talks with Walcott have been "very positive" today.

He was probably shown a picture of himself taking that free kick near the end and convinced himself he is not as good as he thinks he is. That's the freekick he hit someone on the shin with when we needed a good cross.

Probably leave it to the closing hours and sign who ever is left. I cannot see who is available to us..... who would be a great asset.

There are dozens of players available, Ba is available and we arent even trying! Baines should be wroth a cheeky bid. Gibbs is absolutely ****e atm, and Santos looks to be off.

Ba is off to Chelsea. They bid today and the contract talks are already finished. Once they showed up we had no chance. Baines would cost easily £15m, add in the fact that it is January so Everton wont want to sell an ever present this season and it in excess of £20m just to get Everton's attention, not even a bid accepted, just their attention.

Who's the rest of these "dozens" of players? I cant see many worth the effort.

Like I said recently, a new contract for Walcott would be better than anyone we could sign right now.

Think Eisfeld was last January's big purchase

How do you know? And even then, it's not like we'd compete with what Chelsea would pay. In fairness, there are an infinite amount of things behind the scenes that we'll never know about.

All that stuff with his advisors sounds like the kind of thing that would put Wenger off to me. Apparently he would cost more like 12 million in reality.

January is for lower end of the table clubs, or clubs with small squads.

There really isnt any really good options or good value out there for clubs in the top 4/5. To make a signing of any worth we would need to pay 150% of the real value

    What I read today is

    Walcott signing 90k a week
Adrian Lopez in before next league game
    Eisfield to go Ioan
    Johan out

Don't no which is true if any

Hopefully Eisifield does get a loan move. He seemed to have outgrown the U21s from what i have heard on him. Hope he gets a move to a prem league club, because i think he could be good enough for the 1st team next year all going well.

Sagna was a disgrace. I want to see our passing %, no doubt it will be miles lower than average, the amount of passings that were > 5 yards off the mark was ridiculous.

Having Gervinho and Giroud on the same pitch just screams of senile Wenger. Gervinho hasn't crossed the ball once this season. Not even once.

I wouldnt fault Sagna for lack of effort but it looks as if his last injury has taken its toll on him.

Like I said, take who is left. I will be surprised if we get some decent players, despite all the talk. Old habits at Arsenal die hard it appears...... early days so i may well be proved wrong. Get that cheque book out Mr.Wenger.

I'm not that concerned about signings. Where arsenal really need activity is in the departures. Our best business this window would be to get rid of four or five deadweights, and then reality set us up for a busy summer of buying with even more departures. Signing Walcott will be a big bonus.

Yes. That and getting the players who are left to actually do their jobs. I thought I was watching a pub team last night, a very drunk pub team.

In this order, I'd look to get rid of:

    Denilson
    Park
    Squillaci
    Bendtner
    Chamakh
    Santos
    Gervinho
    Arshavin
    Fabianski
    Djourou
    Diaby

Not much difference between the first few, getting rid of any of them would be good. It's really only from Gervinho onwards that the order means anything.

Problem is, we'd be lucky to get £25m for the lot unless Liverpool fancy any of them. Good news would be the amount of wage it would free up.

It must be hard to remain motivated when there are so many around you doing nothing and getting the same wage. With any luck shifting a few of them on will kick the rest the kick in the hole they need.

All about the wages with those players. Already seen some talk about Chamakh, Arshavin and Djourou having some interest. I actually think we'll buy 2 players, partly helped by getting rid of a few and the knowledge that a good few others will be gone by the summer.

Ah to be fair he has always been a good solid pro for us. Received 2 terrible injuries in the space of 6 months. Ive always been a fan of his but sadly it would seem these injuries have caught up with him. His pace is completely gone but Ox didn't track back enough for him either. Ox has been terrible the last month and a half and i have to say Santi wasnt seen around December. To be honest i think some of them need a good shaking while others in the squad need to be dust-binned like Gervinho and Santos

Gibbs was caught fast asleep on a few occasions on the other side and the same against Newcastle. Still a young man but i cant help feeling Jenkinson is a better marker than him. He doesnt get sucked in watching the ball quite as much.

Also, its a shame we didnt keep Benayoun after last season. Even though he was on loan from a rival he gave it everything he had every single time. Would have been a better option than Gervinho and Arshavin, Ramsey too but I'm happy to give him time. He'd also be available a lot more than Diaby.

I think he's injured now anyway so probably just as well :pac:

Diaby as much as well all know is never goign to cut it pysically aint going nowhere Wenger seems to have a hard on for him, cant see Gervinho going anywherre either for the forseeable future while hes still getting game time hell be here. As for the rest of them fingers crossed.
