Dara O'Briain, he talks too fast. I got his DVD as a Christmas too. Fecking Santy!

Yes, he's far too erudite and knowledgeable for the masses

Mrs Browns Boys and Brendan O'Carroll in general.

He is supposed to be a comedian?

Dara O'Briain, about as funny as cronic toothache!

    That sweaty guy.
There is something wrong with society really if people think he is funny.
    Pre WW2 humour.

    All female 'comedians'.

I'm not being sexist. Women just aren't funny, (as comedians).

Very funny in many other ways.

Plenty of funny female comedians and entertainers out there; they're just hard to find.

    Tig Notaro
    Jessica St.Clair
    Amy Poehler
    Christina Pazsitzky
    Jackie Clarke

Oddly enough, they all tend to be American. I guess they spend less time talking about Pussys and Cake over in the States.

Ian Hislop isn't a comedian, more an excellent political analyst who can spot bullshít a mile off. As for Paul Merson I disagree again. Very sharp-witted.

I know Ian Hislop isn't a comedian per se but he's put in that guise for the show. He's just too smug and haughty to be in this role. He is a good political satirist but he doesn't work well in this role, therefore not funny.

Paul Merton is not sharp witted...everything he says is scripted. Have you not noticed how quickly he jumps in to finish the headlines sections? Its too fast to be spontaneous and even though its scripted its still only mediocre. For the rest of the show he just goes on wild tangents and expects that this surreal approach will be considered zany and therfore intellectually funny. It's not.

I can see why people like them both but it's just the same old tripe rolled out every week.

    That Gervais fella.

His TV shows are funny like Extras but his standup is not funny.

To add to the list, Andy Parsons from Mock the Week and Stewart Lee.

Saw Bill Bailey do just that, few years ago and it was fantastic. Neil Innes from the Bonzos - sort of his stock and trade; he's worth a watch as well.

I don't find any American comedy funny, I think it's stupid. The funniest programme, I think, is Horrible Histories. That is so funny that sometimes I've laughed myself to sleep at night after watching it.

    Larry Sanders Show?

    Curb Your Enthusiasm?

    Cheers?

    Seinfeld?

    30 Rock?

All of them are stupid? Must be a cultural thing... :(

I have honestly never laughed at an american comedy, while things like Horrible Histories and Blackadder have had me crying with laughter for days afterwards.

    John Bishop.

Ive seen him on telly now and then and iniatially I didn't realize he was actually a comedian. Seems like a sound enough fella but funny?.......not really. Well in my opinion anyway.

    Brendan O'Carroll.

Again seems like a nice guy but by cripes is that some sh!t humour. Miss Browns Boys = auto channel switch for me.

    Jack Dee.

The grumpy ultra-cynical comedy act is tiring.

I'm very happy to say that Blackadder has passed me by for many years but having recently watched a few, I can see its a quality comedy and intend on watching all of them.

Great shows, it has aged really well.

Monty Python on the other hand, has not aged well.

Just avoid the special - Blackadder Back and Forth. It's a pale imitation of what went before.

American comedies are aimed at the most ignorant and moronic of people. Cheap laughs with little thought needed.

eg - two and a half men.

And the genius of Big Bang Theory?

Clearly a clever man, so. :D

I love BBT. I love many American comedies - have just shelled out for the entire 11 seasons of Cheers. Simple but effective comedic writing and an ensemble cast of characters that never grow tired. IMHO, natch.

Agreed . The special was poor compared to the previous seasons .
