Picked up some budget car cleaning bits over the last few days in a bargain shop in Blanch. Everything was €0.99 or €1.49!

This week I've washed, waxed, installed an AUX, cleaned interior, used tyre cleaner and tried out a black shine restorer. Pretty good results I have to say. Even the tyre shine made a big difference. I used the black shine restorer on all black plastic parts - bumpers, mirrors, side skirts & door handles.

    Cheap stuff:

    Bumper after:

Next, I need to somehow clean out moisture from inside the lights

Hair dryer, remove bulbs, repeat till all damp has gone.

To prevent it happening again, look for a rubber tube coming from the headlight and ensure its clear of dirt. It's on the side of the lamp

Perfect dgt, thanks for that. I'll have a go tomorrow.

*Name of the shop was Mr Price if anyone is looking for some bits and pieces.

What am I going to do with these?
    Image2456_zps863a5dc7.jpg

Answer: return one of them because it's broke!

    A familiar sight
    Image2457_zpscd0eaa1e.jpg

I only thought I had it fixed and was going to take photos of how I did but alas, began pissing everywhere again....

    Round 3!

I needed hose clips. These ones from Halfords were just too small!!!!
    Image2458_zps52c31545.jpg

That pipe was coming out one way or another. Instead of taking off the bumper, off with the cover. Plenty of room
    Image2459_zpsf854a4d8.jpg

Eventually, old pipe out. Why it was leaking like mad
    Image2460_zpse7ce7566.jpg

Putting it on was damn near impossible with both the engine and hoses in the way. To prevent a situation similar to a lighting issue.... :pac::pac::pac:
    Image2461_zpsce8f0199.jpg

Of course, the only pipe available was from an air con car!!!
    Image2462_zps2158b687.jpg

But that and those tiny hose clips didn't stop me ;)
    Image2463_zpsa98108f6.jpg

And as a result I'm back up and running :D

Silly phone, I need a proper camcorder....

    Bulb replaced too :)

It's all good so far, I really can't complain, I've even ordered a rear facing camera that connects straight to the back,
It automatically switches to rear view camera when you go into reverse gear,
The sound also seems better despite me not changing my speakers at all.

    In a word: impresses!

Didn't do this myself, but is worth a post.

Got some corrosion sorted on the chassis and sealed.

Got some car park scuffs polished from rear bumper.

Got tints removed from front side windows for nct :(

Got the last samco hose installed for the coolant system.

Got MX5 gas bonnet lifters installed. Happy to have her home. Time to book my retest.

Washed and demon shined my car, wasn't bother waxing it! It was in some state though, used 3 buckets to wash it, it was so bad. The demon shine stuff is dead handy really makes it look great.

There seems to be a possibly lost Santa's elf type person in your picture too.

Might wanna get that checked, he might have been left behind last Tuesday. :p

    Caliper carrier/yellow bucket :D.

Winding back the piston to fit the fresh pas on.

    Job half done!

Two and half hours to do. Handy enough. Would have been quicker but I couldn't find the wire wheel for the drill and had to settle for the brush:(.

Need to do my rear disks, I've asked this before, but I'll ask again, rear pads were only changed in the last 7/8 months, do I need to replace with the new disks?

If you have separate shoes within the disc for the handbrake, I'd take a look at the inside of the disc.

No harm to see if the back of the disc is pitted or a calliper has stuck :)

I say you'd be alright unless the old disc has damaged the pads.

Forgot the classic old pad new pad pic.

Painted the rocker covers blue.. to colour code with the Intake manifold which I painted purple and red, ie BMW M Colours. I realise this may shock and offend, but coloured engine bays are a kinda popular E31 thing in other, cooler places. :pac:
Paint keeps off the rust and cosmoline while also blinging out that V12. Which is important work.
Will put in the intakes tomorrow, here are the finished rocker covers:

The BMW-M acoustic engine cover is over $400 new.. pricey for a piece of plastic. Since I refurbed all the other bits, I had to fix this up too. Came out real well, looks like new. Lots of masking and different colour layering involved:

    PS:
Also did legitimate but boring stuff, like Fuel hoses, reset Valve timing, rocker gaskets and intake manifold gaskets.

Haha, just thinking the exact same thing. I get up in the morning and look out at the punto as I eat my weetabix, then I decide, "I'll do something today". Then by the time I get around to doing anything its dark.

Cant help it, Im so awesome that when my Air Compressor blew its top hoses off during my E31 R&R I used one of the replaced fuel hoses from the car to patch up the Air Compressor enough to keep working.

Ill be damned if I was going to screw all these nuts and bolts by hand, like a chump :P

If you're changing the discs its best to also change the pads. The old discs may have worn the recent pads unevenly, this could result in an uneven braking when used with the new discs. At best the braking action will probably be reduced too as the old discs would have more than likely feathered the edge of the pads.
As for the handbrake, your car (e46) has separate shoes for the handbrake, inside the centre of the disc. I have found these shoes to be nearly more expensive than the pads for some strange reason. It might also be worth changing these too at the same time to ensure an even handbrake. They have probably been in there since the car was new & these would also have developed a unique wear pattern between the inside of the disc & the surface of the shoe. If so it will be a little harder to balance your handbrake.
There will be some who say you'll "get away" without changing them, the right thing to do is do pad & handbrake shoes at the same time.

Sitting there all sad and alone, it dulls the noise of the Air Compressor quite nicely, thanks! I might hook it into the 8 series and let you know if it still works.. :P

Cheers for the advice, the handbrake shoes are the originals as far as I can tell, haven't looked into the difficulty in changing them so I'll have to do some research. Pads and discs will be fine. I'm in no mad rush to do any of this, being honest seeing what college is like it'll most likely be after May :(

Yeah that would be nice alright. I might even decide to fit it in the Focus at this rate! ;)
