TBH Im regurgitating what the Guards have said..I couldnt give a rats if they were Irish, English, Swiss or Chinese...

If you're bothered by groups of Irish kids shepherded by adults in the driveway you must be beside yourself every Halloween :D

Was it through their use of broken English that you were able to decipher what the 'boss man' was telling them? You did say they were about 6 so how do you know that it wasn't just a responsible adult looking after the children while they were out carol singing?

I heard they were up to this type of skulduggery around halloween aswell, calling around looking for money and sweets I heard.

On Monday night, I believe, a guy called santa will break in to peoples houses to leave presents, if you see him OP make sure and report him to the Garda too.

yeah lets park the racism, now racism aside , what was your point?
As I said I couldnt give a toss where they're from...but when you watch obvious money grabbing going on it tends to bug the s**t outta you.

a person has a right to feel uneasy about groups or single people knocking at their door.....

the guards are there to reassure them if they are safe.....

if they are foreign, not knowing the language can make people feel more uneasy......

that is their right.........too many smart asses trying to take that right away, under the guise of others rights...

Actually what you did was make a highly derogatory and insulting remark which generalized that criminal behaviour was a cultural trait of a specified ethnic group.

Why do you care? In the Roma world it's okay to make money through such ventures. Same as us having a business or something like that. Living in Balbriggan you should understand this more than most

Then why is it the first word in the title of the thread?

The guards surely have more to be doing than reassuring the OP that he is safe from 6 year old carolers.

Most people would call your gut instinct in this situation racist.

If they were Roma then they were probably begging to survive....and you called the Gardai on them? They weren't stealing, they were begging. That's not a crime. People usually do that when they're desperate.

And please don't tell me they all live in mansions in Romania or some ****. I can take you to a shanty town outside Madrid where hundreds and hundreds of Roma gypsies live in abject poverty. I've been there and I've seen it with my own eyes.

If somebody wants to sing some Carols to get some money from me, I can't see a problem with that. Tragic that's what kids have to do around Christmas but it's not criminal. They can do nothing right in some people's eyes, it seems.

Really can't believe you called the police on them.

the right to feel safe in your own home.......may be a joke to you, but to many it has been a very big and serious mistake.....

especially when you get big bald fellas dressed as six year olds, or did you miss that bit...

    Wait a minute...

    2 x Kids @ 1 Carol = 0.50 per 1 song @ 6.7 minutes per house
    6 x Kids @ 3 Carols = 1.50 per 3 songs

Housing Estates = 50 houses answering doors max = €20.10 per hour

    Well worth calling the fuzz.

I understand why the op posted and the gaurds more or less confirmed it .
    Its organised begging
roma gangs use children to beg not for the childs benefit but for the gang boss ie bald guy

Em whats wrong with them carol singing?

Also could you change the thread title, fair enough if you want to say Roma Carol Singers but its not fair to have Romanian there.

jesus its not different than people busking. Its a lot better than having the kids steal or simply beg on the floor of a street.

Honestly can't believe the guy called the police on them. Nothing illegal about it. I wonder if he would have called the police on some young Irish travellers doing carols for xmas money??

Get you who's never been shafted by the young kid begging on the Dublin street with the minder standing ten feet away to make sure the child is begging hard enough....or sending 12 and 13 YO kids to peoples doors late at night to ask for money or camp on the M50 and have Special Branch monitor their activities and describe how they monitor people make substantial cash transfers while at the same time going out and robbing every shop on Henry St

Ah o.k, so you saw they were Roma and decided to take it out on them. Because they all must be the same right?

Pathetic attitude. What a little person you are.

A couple of teenagers came carol singing to my door last year and I asked them if they were collecting money and they said yes and then I asked them what charity they were singing for and they said themselves and I told them I appreciated their honest and transparent approach so I gave them two out of date cans of Beamish.

I don't really answer my door these days.

Carol singers are being monitored by the guards.By the way "Special Branch" has not existed for over a decade.

Realy! A number of complaints about carol singers coming to the door at Christmas? I wish carol singers would come to my door regardless of where they are from.

    You can have mine!

They are Irish ( not that that makes any difference).

They thump my front door down, then if I don't answer quick enough they bang the window.

Heaven forbid I'm on the loo, or on the phone.

At least twice a night since mid November!

They aren't very good at singing. In fact they are really bad. They demand money and are rather intimidating lil feckers.

    Swapsies houses?

    Is your garden big?

Why on earth did you ring the Gardai because of carol singers?
I don't know how to put this to you other than; not everyone that knocks on your door means well, or is genuinely raising money for charity.

Give them twenty cent between them then shut the door. And in the same way I caught a hit and run recently, them i went on foot and got a reg. the gardai are prosecuting, so it pays off not to just sit back and ignore it.
