Average performance, good result. Thought Wenger got the subs spot on. Coq did a very good job in the middle when he came on.

Wenger should take a look at McCarthy he was superb again today, MOM.

Shame the West Ham game is off another 3 points would have ended the year well for us.

    Happy Xmas gunners!

As a supporter of the Irish team I don't think McCarthy joining us would be good for his development. Our midfield is stacked as it stands. I wouldn't drop Wilshere, Arteta or Cazorla for McCarthy. Plus you have promising youngsters in the form of Ramsey and Coquelin who Wenger likes to give game time to. Factor in the presence of Rosicky who is still a good player who can't get into the team much and suddenly Arsenal looks like a very bad career move for McCarthy.

No one said they where great but your being ridiculous attacking the subs made, comparing like for like what Fergie did when Utd where drawing and Wenger did when Arsenal where winning.

There have been plenty of days to have a moan about Arsene recently but today was not one of them.

You sir are taking out of your hole today

Could a player not just sack an agent in a situation like that? Surely they're adults who can take control of their own lives when needs be?

As it happened Sadlier's hip never made the recovery he thought it might in order to make a comeback so he didn't have to make that decision and it was his first move outside of Millwall so he wouldn't have had as much experience in terms of negotiating moves to other clubs so wouldn't have seen the agents negotiation skills prior to his talks with Sunderland

I suppose if an agent works with a player for so long the other side of the coin is that they build up a loyalty and a friendship no matter how unscrupulous the agent might be. Players being young, naive and dazzled with money and believe all the spoof agents fill them with. Another thing is the club isnt always the good guy and agents will manipulate any friction between player and club (or even when there isnt) to their advantage.

Richie Sadlier mentioned in his Sunday Indo column there a fortnight ago that agents are a law onto their own and are in a world far removed from the rest of us. He almost made a comeback himself from injury to sign for Sunderland back in 2006 but his agent basically made a ridiculous wage demand. Niall Quinn tried to reason with Sadlier on the phone and Sadlier agreed it was too much under the circumstances but the agent still wouldnt budge.

Do you know how exactly they're paid - is it a standard fee, percentage of the players contract or what?

Im not exactly sure but i think in the vast majority of cases it could be percentage based which would explain their eagerness in demanding unrealistic wages.

It could vary from player to player and be whichever is worth more to the agent also. Sometimes a flat rate could be better when they are realistic about what salary a player can command exactly.

yeah that's what i think too but don't think i've ever seen it reported what way they're paid, google should solve it

anyway on the players/agents thing, one time they were discussing them on the sunday supplement and one of the guys was telling a story of a footballer - well enough known i think, so PL at least but they wouldn't name him - who'd moved to the north east.

He'd moved into his new house & the agent gets a phone call off thim, who tells him that the delivery men are there with his washing machine/dishwasher and that. I think this had been arranged by the agent too. The player says he's looking at them out the window & the agent says 'yeah so'

player says 'their not supposed to come until tomorrow' and the agent goes 'can you not go out and tell them to come back tomorrow then?'. The player responds 'no i want you to ring them and tell them' :pac:

Sorry mister mourinho,I didn't notice you there.

So we're hanging on to a slim lead, not playing well against motivated and well managed opposition, who are at home, on a pitch that's cutting up and not suiting us, in bad weather conditions, and you'd bring on more attackers?

    Good plan.

Wenger brought on a CM and a DM to shore up the middle and secure the win for us which is what we need, especially when our confidence is so brittle at the moment. As a result we go in at the end of the day in 3rd place. With 3 PL wins in a row.

    Yet you know better.

Sure Jack, you couldn't even hold onto your pirate ship!

We won today without being very good, which is great. The penalty was debatable but we have been denied cast-iron penalties in the past.
Today it would be hard to pick out a man-of-the-match. There were a lot of steady performances but nobody stood out. Wigan did their job well and were probably unlucky not to share the spoils.

I'll take three points like that any day.

I still maintain the only way to defend a lead is attack when it comes to arsenal, most time we try defend it we loose, simple as,sure this game last season we were 2 0 up and lost it 3 2,and that was at the emirates, the home game in Wigan we were 2 0 up and we drew 2 2,it doesn't work,we don't know how to defend leads,it worked today just about.

Actually if you read my past comments you will find I am pro Wenger, doesn't mean I can't level some criticism his way once in a while.
