He's a lot funnier than his naysayers think he is though. Best comedian currently working.

Lee can be funny but he isn't the comedy god he seems to think he is.

Favourite comedian right now would be Louis CK, its great to see him doing well with his show, would love if he toured over here.

Christopher Titus is someone who should be more famous than he is outside the US, his shows Normal Rockwell Is Bleeding and Love Is Evol are both brilliant. talking about his dysfunctional family including a bipolar mother and functioning alcoholic father. "there are no family pictures where my dad isnt holding a beer, birthdays..christmas, bbqs..parent teacher meetings.."

I despise Harry Hill. Talk about flogging a dead horse. McIntyre a close second.

"Surreal" comics. Just a posh way of saying "not actually funny". Thinking of the likes of Ross Noble and that lad from The Mighty Boosh. I find their stand up painfully unfunny.

Jim Davidson is not as funny as he used to be.

Oh yeah has anyone mentioned the two knobgobblers on Have I Got News For You. Paul Merton and Hislop. They make me nauseous.

This thread has descended into absurdity now

Louis CK owes an awful lot to Bill Hicks. I still think he's very good though, definitely one of the best American comedians out there right now.

ALL irish comedians are just awful.
Seriously, for a country with a good sense of humour, they are the biggest bunch of *rseholes ever. Especially that Ed Byrne. He actually makes me cringe. Just watched Dara O Briains new DVD, it's crap. Basically he spends 90 minutes slagging people less intelligent than him "Oh I know science and do a weird fast high pitched whine when I talk to people in the crowd" Shut it Dara, we all remember you on echo island.

Also most women comedians are also pants, except Joan Rivers,I like her sheer does not give a fcukness.

At the minute I like Mickey Flanagan, have front row tickets to see him in April. Hope he picks on us because I am hilarious and also plan on wearing a "I love Mickey" tshirt.

    Tommy Tiernan
    Katherine Lynch

But the worst of the lot has to be Andrew Maxwell.

I saw Dara O Briains DVD as well. A second rate take off of Al Murray.

Ed Byrne. God knows how he ever became a "credible" comedian. I agree with the previous poster about Dara "Echo Island" O'Briain as well. He's such a condescending sh!t.

    Edit:
Forgot about Andrew Maxwell. Another annoying little toad.

Rob Brydon... Jesus CHRIST, I hate him.

I don't know what it is. But he gives me the same reaction I get when I realise it's a Sideshow Bob Simpsons... I have to switch off!

I can't think of his name but the black American comedian that appears on things like QI and Have I Got News For You is terrible. It takes him ages to say something that isn't even funny. He sounds like he's high or has just woken up from a coma.

Actually most of the contestants on QI ruin it by talking over Stephen Fry when he's saying something interesting. When any combination of the aforementioned black comedian, Sean Lock, Phil Jupitus, Jo Brand or Ross Noble appear on it it's hardly worth watching. It would be a hell of a lot better without Alan Davies too.

That would be Reginald D Hunter you're thinking of.

    That Gervais fella.

I loved the office. Extras was decent. Stand up gigs were meh. But now I think he just irritates me. I followed him on twitter which was a mistake. He has 3 main topics of discussion.

    1. There is no God blah blah blah
    2. Hey look everyone, another pic of my dickhead cat
    3. self promotion. Buy my DVD & watch my episodes of idiot abroad ****e

So not looking forward to Derek when it airs.

And yes I will give it a chance as im a glutton for punishment.

Russell Howard is the first one that comes to mind, just doesnt deliver anything funny at all.
Jack Black is another i can't stand, how is he so famous? He has absolutly no talent.
Another who some seem to see as a legend is the late comedian Bill Hicks, have watched his stuff a good bit over the years and just dont think he's that good at all, George Carlin and Chris Rock do the same type of observational humour and do it cleverer and funnier than Hicks ever did it imo.

    Good musicians though.

Neil Delemare is one of the nicest guys you could meet.

Does that make him funny or not, I dunno? I think most comedians are ****e.

Personally I think there's a psychology to comedy, you've invested time or money to laugh and something, kinda like a placebo effect.

I'd say 99% of comedians are no more funny or even less funny than the funny guy in a typical group. They just got the balls or showmanship to do it. What makes some of them more popular to certain groups is more personal preference than them being funny per say.

I'd still say some of the 1% can be brilliant. Monthy Python, Spike Milligan, Billy Connolly (at their peak, brilliant) or perhaps the likes of Rich Hall, if you get him, but is that coming back to personal preference?

It's gotta be Katherine Lynch. Her idea of comedy is just roaring at people in a variety of accents/wigs. How does she keep getting television series? Baffling

I don't know where you get the idea that he thinks he's amazing. He acknowledges in interviews that his humor isn't for everyone and he is his own niche really. I love how subtly he picks comedy apart and does his own thing with it.

Has anyone mentioned Dane Cook. I watched a few minutes of his routine and wondered if the entire audience were retarded. Beyond awful.

Bill Burr is the funniest comedian out there at the moment. Just hilarious. Great routines and superbly delivered!
