Re-registered my car back on to UK plates as I have relocated to to Midlands for the foreseeable future. Was almost heart breaking (as I remembered how much VRT I paid in 07 to import the car :-().

Cost to re-register was nill! Needed to surrender the Irish logbook, have current Uk insurance (via VIN number) and a valid MOT. Job done in 20min.

Typical!! I had the whole car clayed, sealed and waxed apart from the passenger side. I got that clayed and down came the fooken rain

Well I found out why the GSR was ever so slightly knocking. When I took the head off the other night I thought I had load of bent valves, dont know why, tired or dark or stupid but they were'nt bent when I looked in the morning.
The question is now, is it worth fixing? Rods, bearings, gaskets, oil and the rest.

Proper pictures instead of f*ckin cleaning the whole time!!!! :D

    Timing slip?

If I were you I'd be pricing a forged set of rods and pistons. Check the crank for damage to....

    Please post more pictures :)

Yeah the belt was out by a couple of teeth, but not enough to meet the valves. I haven't yet sussed the cause of the amazing banana rods or timing jump. Running to much boost maybe?

How are the cylinder walls? Valves seating properly?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 842 ✭✭✭spiggotpaddy

The bores and valve gear look okay to the eye, nothing obvious jumps out.I was thinking maybe the HG could'nt take the extra boost, sucked in some coolant and somthing's got to give. Don't know though.

    Is the engine fully stripped?

No the gearbox is still in, so the crank is still bolted to the flywheel. The block is still in its mounts. My friend bought the car for parts and it did drive into my yard. Which led to "whats that awful knocking" and that led to "I'll have a quick look". And now its a basket case. Will be looking for a quick fix or a break it job.

I'm looking at this and thinking your latter option of breaking the car might be a better idea....

I fitted these today to the R75 today, I had a scarey moment on sat. night.
When I removed the old pads I discovered that they had come away from the metal back plate. It was on the to do list' so I had the bits in the garage, I must check the rear ones tomorrow.

Today, I removed and cleaned my EGR valve!
Ive never done it before and I was a bit nervous.
But it is as easy as everyone says;)
It was pretty manky, but just soot, no really baked on carbon. (solonoid was nice and free so I didnt take it apart
Car is much quieter at tick over and seems to rev more freely (that last bit could be rose tinted specs though) All in all a very satisfying job:D

I was kind of nervous the day I did mine too pred but once you take your time and follow any DIY available if you need it, it'll be ok.

Also it helps to have conzy there to help when you forget to tighten jubilee clips on turbo inlet pipes and think you have totally destroyed your engine :pac:

    the mammys new yaris.

112k milles on the clock. FSH up to 100k. gave it a service myself today, just oil and filter, air filter and plugs, badly wanted, the oil was dark black. it only passed the NCT last week so i take for granted most other things are at least "ok"

interestingly i had a service kit in the garage from my old 1.5 VVTi Vitz and the oil filter and plugs were both the same as the 1.0 and the air filter was only very slightly different.

friend , who bought micra off me a while ago, rang few days ago, complaining, wont start his car .. micra k11 , '97, 1.0l. 16.v. engine.. I couldnt come, so he call out mechanics from insurance company ... he checked sparkplugs, all wet in petrol, he went to conclusion - broken fuel pump. he was banging on fuel pump cover same time starting car. ... no avail. , then was removing , fuses one by one, and starting car.. eventually started, with a lot of white smoke from exhaust, car had badly misfiring for few minutes, then after revving, went fine. O, he was driving for couple days, all fine, then start rain, and car guess what ... no start again .... friend was trying start for few minutes, eventually started, with lot of white smoke... etc ... like first time...

So he rang me today, said, ... it is second day, he unable start car, .... after quick goggling about wet whether and bad micra firing, sourced parts, and in half an hour, micra started on the first turnover :)

Did you buy an E38 or E65? Must have missed that!

No chance of the hyro boot lid install, its a pain in the ass and uber expensive.

No part number for the spoiler, it's an aftermarket part, found it on eBay pre painted nearly five years ago, it's stood up well. Still plenty floating about I believe.

    e38

I found kits for the hydro lid for 150-200 shipped here and all, most of them in lithuania.

nice, must go searching so , is yours just adhesived on or is it bolted ?

Wow, thats not too bad, last time I looked (several years ago admittedly) all the parts were close to €1000 if you could find them.

Mines stuck on with the supplied 3M tape, never budged a millimetre.

    Any pics/specs?
