Nice, I hope this time it actually makes it to the west.

Mother 1 - Famicom. Japan only.
Mother 2 - Super Famicom & Snes. Japan & US {Earthbound}. US sales figures tanked.
Mother 64 - Cancelled. Was supposed to be N64 DD game so yeah, would have been Japan only.
Mother 3 - GBA. Japan Only.
    Mother 1 & 2 Remake/Port - GBA. Japan Only.
Mother 2 Remake/Port Demo - Wii VC. Japan Only.

    Mother remake - ?

So yeah, fingers & toes crossed.

I do remember the push Earthbound got in the States, some great scratch and sniff ads in EGM and Gamepro back in the day, always wanted to try it but it never made it over here.
Now just awaiting the post from the Orient before EnterNow works his magic and I'll get to fulfill a dream at last!

Just got word that the Megadrive and Mega CD 1 actually arrived!

Probably a good idea to leave the Paypal dispute open until I check it isnt it?

Definitely, because once you close a dispute you can't reopen them or even create a new one for that same transaction. So if you close it now & the consoles are borked, your screwed

It was a real hard sell for Nintendo. In Japan you had a game written and directed by one of Japan's most beloved and revered celebrity and artist. It looked cute and insubstantial but with Itoi behind it they knew there was something deeper going on in the game, especially since it was coming after the much loved predecessor which was the same deal.

In the US nobody knew who Itoi was, the PS1 and Saturn were out and RPGs had yet to take off since it was another 2 years before FFVII. All they could really sell it on was it's zaniness which seems like a disservice to the game but sure how else could they have done it?

Seemingly the cost of the game due to it being a big box version with a full colour/glossy strategy guide included helped in the downfall too. Think it was retailing about $70 back in day, which was pretty high for an 'unknown' & zany game

Yeah I heard it sold a hell of a lot more when it was discounted heavily. I guess Nintendo were trying to channel the success they had with Super Metroid and it's big box edition, but that had a well known name attached. I still think Earthbound would have done a lot better if Nintendo had released the first game back in 1990. Even if it didn't do too well it would have generated word of mouth and gotten good reviews.

Yeah good point, it would have paved the way for Earthbound on the Snes in that case. And to further expand the controversy, Mother was fully localised & production was ready to actually begin when the plug was pulled. All the damn work was done, they just had to mass produce the game!

For anyone interested, Roo does a good job explaining the whole thing {Andrew you needn't bother, its the hand waving guy :D} Some fantastic info in the below

Interesting to see that the US/Japan cultural divide in business works both ways. It's like the series of epic fails that microsoft had with the original xbox in Japan around the turn of the century, which basically came down to the fact that they just didn't understand that Japan was a different culture where business is done in a different way, and gamers feel differently about stuff.

That, and the fact that they tried to market a controller the size of a frisbee to a people with some of the smallest hands in the world...doh! :p

    Really interesting read:

In fairness, its leftfield bits still get a lot mention to its detriment. I mean, 9-outta-10 discussions I've witnessed on just about all the Mother series most often find the trilogy either lauded or dismissed on those merits, which, I find, is a bit like having the cover being your favourite part of a good comic/cartoon etc. It's good and all, but a little far West of the point.

What has your neighbor got to do with scrapping the car? Is she complaining to the Guards its not taxed/nct'd or something? I presume because its parked in a public place {not in a driveway/private property} then it has to be up to speed re discs in the window?

Or maybe it's taking up a spot when she wants to park something there instead.

In such a case I know what I'd be telling her :D The only people with jurasdiction in a public place like that are the po-po. If some biddy doesn't like the look of an older car parked in front of her Merc like that its her problem.

Speculation is fun! :D C'mon Atavan, spill the beans...whats really going on?

It's her and Atavan's secret love nest. Now that he broke her heart, she doesn't want to look at it anymore as it only reminds her of happier times.

She's the instigator of it all. She reported it abandoned to the council and then when I claimed the car she was told there's nothing they can do about it. After that she knocked on the door, claiming it was an eyesore and what if she wanted to have friends over and they'd have to park at the top of the terrace. Just her attitude pissed me off so I'm probably just venting at her. Something did have to be done about the car though but I'm just a bit sentimental about it since we've had it for nearly 10 years.

Also my mam just bought a golf GTI this morning so that's going right where the levin was!

If someone is having a moaning about something because it's an eyesore, their friends might not like it or other reasons where they have no legal grounds to have anything done about it there's a simple course of action to sort things out. Tell them to get f*cked.

Spot on. Sounds like a snob & to be honest according to Dealing with Snobs issue '3, the only response to it is to be up front & tell her her face is an eyesore & if she wouldn't mind removing it from your front door or else you'll have to call the council to get a tired old wreck removed

Anyone playing Gunman Clive on the 3DS? It's only 2 euro, definitely pick it up. Looks really lovely and plays like an 8 bit Sunset Riders.

Actually, hints of Megaman to this one too.

Go for it, it can't get any worse and to be honest, it's not like you are defending Legend of Dragoon :P

Fair enough , allow me to explain my reasoning why i feel sonic 06 isnt as bad as people say.

Sonic 06 has alot of bull**** , from its atrocious relationship with the female princess and the blue hedgehog , any sort of spark between a human being and an animal is wrong , and may have being the kickstarter for sll those weirdos on deviantart :pac:.

the game suffers from glitches , bugs , and long loading times.

But with all these negatives i thnk imo the music is amazing , it looks beautiful at times and some of the levels are pretty good.

i dont think its as bad as people made it out to be and alot of it had to do with patience with long loading screens , and bugs , which i didnt really found as much as game grumps have and i am playing the ps3 version also.

so what sonic has going for it for me is its music , its great levels at times and i feel the game really looks beautiful and shines.

it has it faults no doubt but i feel if people can look past it to the end i feel is satisfying.

Sonic 06 for me is a game that was released in an unfinished state. Some of the bugs are just horrendously bad (and hilarious) and I'm shocked it past Sega and the platform holders QA. Some parts are just totally and utterly broken such as the boss fight with Silver and you can tell from the horrendous slow down and load times that the game was barely optimised which is very telling of a rushed product, although I never seen a game on a console released in such a bad state as Sonic 06.

From what little I played I didn't find the level design all that great. At worse it was pretty appalling.

The story is woeful, which doesn't become a bad thing unless you make the player watch inane cutscenes which Sonic 06 does with regularity.

I think one of the silliest things about the game was keeping the same controls as the Dreamcast games. Sonic just doesn't work in Sonic Adventure and it certainly doesn't work in Sonic 06. It's made even worse by the bugs. There are so many points in Sonic 06 where the player will die because of a bug through no fault of their own which is criminal game design. It was bad in the Adventure games but Sonic 06 takes it to a whole new level. Even worse is when these deaths occur during one of the many scripted sections in the game where the player has absolutely no control.

Then there's the knuckles sections, knuckles just does not work in this game. When your core mechanic of sticking on to walls is hit and miss then you have a terrible game. The other characters are pretty terrible as well.

It's not even that great looking game. Drop the resolution to standard definition and it would look like a middle of the road PS2 game.

Saying that the game does have comedy value. Even though I think Legend of Dragoon is a more competent game it's so bland and nothing stands out that I'd take this mess over it. Better to fail spectacularly and give us all a laugh than to bore us to tears.

Got back from seeing The Hobbit, today. I really don't know why the critics tore this one a new one, but it seems like they're only ragging it for fickle reasons, like the framerate and extending the book into a trilogy. But so far, I haven't seen anything controversial come out of it, not compared to when Episode I released. I say bring on the extended release.

And yes, I didn't see it in 48fps.
