I don't like it myself, half the audience left, most were chatting amongst themselves and I wasn't the only one heckling...honestly it made it better !

People left in the middle of his show?

It's strange how immediately the tides of popularity turn on people in the public eye now. I've definitely gotten a little wiser in the last few years but people's opinions and careers are moving quicker as well, their arses are barely touching the pedestal before they're getting hooshed off of it.

After looking at some of the responses in this thread, it was nice to become an adult and stop getting my balls in a knot over whether I enjoyed a comedian. You can really save a lot of time just ignoring the ones you don't find funny. It's very much preferable to being an absolute pillock who needs to validate his opinion by bagging someone who's just trying their best to make people laugh.

Of course, not everyone gets their fair chance in the business, some spots are taken up by nepotists and key demographic representatives selected by a television's marketing team; they're easy to spot though and ignoring them is as good as them never existing in the first place!:pac:

So, you don't think that maybe having a wider audience after becoming more payable has something to do with the increase of people not liking the act?

There's a whole bunch of comedians I don't like, but one I'll never understand the popularity of is Noel Fielding. "It's like (Adjective) (Random object) (Adverb) (Verb) made of (Pop culture)."

The reason why I fell in love with stand up comedy.

His weightwatchers bit made me fall to the floor laughing and wet myself.

I know it's a cartoon, but the Simpsons hasn't been funny since about 1998

Everyone knows the Simpsons died in 1998.

Yeah big groups and everything, he wasn't pleased. But it was rubbish, no laughs at all.

    That has to be awkward!

I heard people walked out of Frankie Boyle recently too. (which is understandable)

Was it in Ireland? How does his shtick work in Ireland anyway?

    Um. Okay.
The reason why I fell in love with stand up comedy.

His weightwatchers bit made me fall to the floor laughing and wet myself.

That's fair enough but his stuff got stale very quickly. Not that I enjoyed it when it was fresh.
A friend of mine used to be really into him and all his stuff was just meh.

Omid Djalili - went to see him in Vicar Street a few years ago - he was terrible. He also thought we were part of the UK.

It didn't, and I don't know why he thought it would. It was painful to watch, he knew it too.

    All female 'comedians'.

I'm not being sexist. Women just aren't funny, (as comedians).

Very funny in many other ways.

No you're not being sexist at all. Dope.

It definitely does, television has just gotten so desperate that they seize on anyone with a bit of talent or who's eeked out a semi-original act and hammers them home until people start hating them.

Television isn't going to change until the business model needs changing and there's always new comedians. So it's up to you whether you want to keep whinging about someones jokes or just plain stop giving them attention. Your choice.

I've said it before, but this really just depends on your sense of humour. Simply saying 'women just aren't funny' is a bit silly.

Joan Rivers would be in my top 5 stand up comedians ever. She genuinely makes me cry with laughter.

It all falls on your own sense of humour. Pretty simple really.

Rob Brydon isn't just unfunny; he's fcuking irritating to watch.

Never understood why Eddie Izzard is so popular either.

Threads like these serve a single purpose, they're not supposed to be Earth moving. Of course everything posted is going to be opinion based. One of my favourite comics is Emo Philips, I know a bunch of others who can't stand him. I dunno. It's a discussion board, man, you could just stop giving the threads you don't like attention instead of whinging about them?

Some comedians are great when they start out, then they very quickly lose it, or they go stale or something.
Tommy Tiernan, Ed Byrne, Des Bishop, Denis Leary

Other comedians start out being absolutely awful, but somehow manage to mould themselves into half-decent comedians - Andrew Maxwell, Jason Byrne, Ricky Gervais

Then some are consistently great through a long career, but as they move into their silver years they're just not as sharp as they used to be - Robin Williams and Billy Crystal I would put squarely in here. Billy Connolly too, especially after seeing his last late late interview. Just not the same riotous madcap man he used to be. Now he's just someone's grandad who used to be a comedian, but now he just sits in his rocking chair reading the paper.

Connolly is still my all-time greatest, way ahead of any comedian who ever is or was, but he can't really be called a working comedian anymore.

does his face annoy you more?
