Full driving licence as ID for nightclub

    Hi folks, just wondering if any of you know if a full driving licence is suitable ID for a nightclub

    Absolutley not! It is illegal to ask for a drivers licence as a form of ID.

    If the bouncer asks mention to him section 13.4 of the constitution where it states 'no member of the public should be asked to produce a drivers licence or passport when gaining entry into a premesis'

    If you have a ATM card or a Credit Card just flash that at him and be on your way. If you have these the bouncer will presume you are of legal age and let you in no bother

    A Mickey Mouse Club ID will usually suffice. Failing that, a DNA test.

    The supreme command of the Defence Forces is hereby vested in the President.

    I'm not sure how this would get you into a night club unless your name is Michael D

    the Constitution doesn't have sections, it has Articles. and Article 13.4 gives the President vested power over the Defence Forces.

    Ok I don't have time to read the whole case but from the bit I read the 17 year old presented (maybe) a Garda ID with a blurred pic, a passport and a driving licence. She was let in on the basis of the passport and driving licence which subsequently turned out to belong to someone else.
    I fail to see how insisting on Garda only ID would solve this (other than a more recent pic). She could have just have easily have 'borrowed' a Garda ID from someone like she did with the passport/driving licence.

    Drivers license (provisional or full), passport or Garda I.D. will do for most clubs and pubs OP.

    Irish driving licenses in may cases can be fraudulently copied to display false information. Due to this ongoing problem the only form of id's accepted by registered R.O.A.R nightclubs and licensed venues are:

    1) Garda age cards, on which a bi-nodal hologram is printed and can be analysed when needed

    2)A trade union 'Peoples Plus' card, which states age, race ad various other non essential details (felonies etc.)

    3)A Dublin Zoo family credit pass, which states you're age,nationality and once again other non essential information (favourite animal, marital status etc.)

    My 19 year old son was refused entry a couple of times into a nightclub in Kildare town as his passport was a couple months out of date:...... Go figure

    There are two issues the first is letting a person under age on the premises, the Act allows a Defense of reasonable efforts, so being shown a passport or license maybe enough.

    The second issue is serving drink, the only Defense allowed in that case if the person is under age, is that you were shown a Garda Age Card.

    So a pub, club or off license is correct to demand Garda age card if serving alcohol. They may of course accept anything including dog tags, lol.
