You need proof of a full CIA background clearance check, I think.

Absolutley not! It is illegal to ask for a drivers licence as a form of ID.

If the bouncer asks mention to him section 13.4 of the constitution where it states 'no member of the public should be asked to produce a drivers licence or passport when gaining entry into a premesis'

If you have a ATM card or a Credit Card just flash that at him and be on your way. If you have these the bouncer will presume you are of legal age and let you in no bother

A Mickey Mouse Club ID will usually suffice. Failing that, a DNA test.

    Article 13 Para 4

The supreme command of the Defence Forces is hereby vested in the President.

I'm not sure how this would get you into a night club unless your name is Michael D

the Constitution doesn't have sections, it has Articles. and Article 13.4 gives the President vested power over the Defence Forces.

If Michael D is refused for having no driving license then the whole army has to intervene!

Any type of licence will do. Full, provisional, pilot, dog...

No that Para 5, Para 4 subsection ii relates to the army having to shoot him if he starts with the poetry again

If they accept it fine, but the only legally permissible ID to purchase drink is the Garda Age Card.

Just in case anyone has any questions, this case explains it all http://courts.ie/judgments.nsf/6681dee4565ecf2c80256e7e0052005b/491cd9c28228ffbe802576bf004b7705?OpenDocument&Highlight=0,Waxy

Ok I don't have time to read the whole case but from the bit I read the 17 year old presented (maybe) a Garda ID with a blurred pic, a passport and a driving licence. She was let in on the basis of the passport and driving licence which subsequently turned out to belong to someone else.
I fail to see how insisting on Garda only ID would solve this (other than a more recent pic). She could have just have easily have 'borrowed' a Garda ID from someone like she did with the passport/driving licence.

Drivers license (provisional or full), passport or Garda I.D. will do for most clubs and pubs OP.

presume your joking, there is no age on a credit card

You have to be 18 to get one though. At least you used to.

It's most effective when you're trying to get into an over-16s disco. Worked for a few of my friends back in the day

Irish driving licenses in may cases can be fraudulently copied to display false information. Due to this ongoing problem the only form of id's accepted by registered R.O.A.R nightclubs and licensed venues are:

    1) Garda age cards, on which a bi-nodal hologram is printed and can be analysed when needed

2)A trade union 'Peoples Plus' card, which states age, race ad various other non essential details (felonies etc.)

3)A Dublin Zoo family credit pass, which states you're age, nationality and once again other non essential information (favourite animal, marital status etc.)

    Hope this helps

My 19 year old son was refused entry a couple of times into a nightclub in Kildare town as his passport was a couple months out of date:...... Go figure

There are two issues the first is letting a person under age on the premises, the Act allows a Defense of reasonable efforts, so being shown a passport or license maybe enough.

The second issue is serving drink, the only Defense allowed in that case if the person is under age, is that you were shown a Garda Age Card.

So a pub, club or off license is correct to demand Garda age card if serving alcohol. They may of course accept anything including dog tags, lol.

Going to a nightclub is like travelling to a new world, and you can't travel on an out of date passport :p

If you don't happen to have the licence on you at the door you can still gain admission to the night club. But you have to produce the licence and your insurance to the bouncer within ten days.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,782 ✭✭✭dmc17

Yep you need the full licence to get in. I tried with 2/3 of a licence once (the front page came off in the wash) and they just laughed at me :(

I went in with a provisional once and they made me stay beside my mate who had a full licence and I wasn't allowed on the dancefloor with the other lads

You could have gone dancing if he accompanied you on the floor though I think the alcohol limit would have been slightly lower for you
