Not once is it ever implied it was "rape" - but what next? Kyle Reese raped sarah conner in Terminator? as she was in shock of nearly being killed and reese "took advantage" ?

Lol at comparing Kyle Reese & George Burgess.

I left in 89 and didn't come back until 95, but are you sure on that. I'm sure you could get them OTC

Great film and all.. but out of the Barrytown Trilogy, it's definitely aged the worst!

That's the most bizzare thread title I've seen in quite a while!

Indeed. You could get them without prescription but only in chemists and they were normally "around the back", iirc. I remember there was uproar when Virgin Megastore started to sell Mates in their stores.

    Nah, he didn't rape her.

Bit of a difficult question:S Just watched it there, but I think it comes under taking advantage of someone. She did begin the advance, and she didn't really give a any negative, and she did appear conscious and coherent (if that's the right word).

But she was severely drunk, and we don't even know if George was:S But was she drunk enough to be classed as defenseless or unable to give consent?

I'm trying to think of this in a technical way, and I'm not saying he did anything right there, since he really, really didn't.

Would have been around '93 or '94.

I also remember the hullabaloo when Mates first came out and had advertisements on the TV.

Balls to Dairy Milk, the Mates condoms adverts were the best use of Phil Collins' "In the Air Tonight" in a commercial!

Bought them there for the first time and long after even when they were made legal chemists were awkward fúcks about selling them to young people esp young women.

Did ye not see me there, over by the vegetables......
i dont know why but that is without a doubt, the funniest line in the whole film

dessie squeezing the tea bag and roaring SHITE then throwing it at the wall is hilarious too

Dun Laoghaire shopping centre hasnt changed a bit either

Wow, it's shocking now to hear that was the attitude as recent as the mid 90s (seems recent to me anyway :D)

I wonder is Roddy going to do to the immigrant community of dublin what he did to the working class?
