Serious question. Watching The Snapper and that scene has never sit right with me - especially the way it's just glossed over. Was she too drunk to give consent in the scene on the car bonnet? I know times change and what's considered acceptable by society changes over time and it may not have been controversial at the time but judging by societal attitudes today, it's very dodgy.

Indeed. You could get them without prescription but only in chemists and they were normally "around the back", iirc. I remember there was uproar when Virgin Megastore started to sell Mates in their stores.

Bit of a difficult question:S Just watched it there, but I think it comes under taking advantage of someone. She did begin the advance, and she didn't really give a any negative, and she did appear conscious and coherent (if that's the right word).

But she was severely drunk, and we don't even know if George was:S But was she drunk enough to be classed as defenseless or unable to give consent?

I'm trying to think of this in a technical way, and I'm not saying he did anything right there, since he really, really didn't.
