How do I report a fraudster. A spanish guy was living in my house up until the end of last month. A letter came in the post yesterday saying he was entitled to claim the dole from today. How do I go about report him? He doesn't live here anymore so I don't see why he should be claiming dole. As far as I know he returned to Spain.

Dont you have to sign on every week? That'll be hard when he's in Spain.

I think it's illegal to open another person's letter?
    Anyway:

Why are you reading someone else's post? Maybe someone should report you.

You have no right to open another persons post. Simply return to sender and mind your own business.

Indeed you do have to sign each week in the post office

What about all that makes him a fraudster? He could be perfectly entitled to the dole here, all he needs is to have worked up the points.

Also, it's illegal to open someone else's mail.

I think we should report YOU OP!! Give us your details and I will pass them onto the relevant authorities.

You opened someones private mail ???

If he's not living in your house, and hasn't seen the letter, he's not even aware of his predicament. If he's back in Spain, he can't claim here anyway.

    end of problem

Surely he'd need to actually still be here and start claiming his dole? If he is, and does, no fraud. If he's gone back to Spain he won't be claiming it, no fraud.

Where do we report mail fraud?

Plus, do you know he's gone back to Spain and not just moved to a better landl, er, place?

What evidence do you have that he is a fraudster.
By the way you do know that opening another persons post is a serious criminal offence.

Do you have proof he has gone back to Spain? Besides, surely he would have to show that letter as proof, which you have erroneously opened.
Sounds like you might have agenda as well going from the tone in your post.

If you have been getting Jobseeker's Benefit in Ireland for at least 4 weeks and wish to go to a country covered by EC Regulations to look for work, you can receive this payment abroad for up to 78 days. To obtain this you must inform the office where you 'sign-on' at least 4 weeks before you leave so that the necessary arrangements may be made in time.

In the other country you must 'sign-on' within 7 days of the date you last signed on in your local Social Welfare Office.

I don't understand what is happening in this thread. He gets a letter saying that he is entitled to claim the dole. You have no reason to believe that he is doing so, intends to do so, or is even aware that this letter has arrived. Indeed, it would be very hard for him to read this letter considering that you just illegally opened it yourself rather than forward it on.

    You are creepy and intrusive.

Was there not enough postage? Because that's all you can report him for unless you've left a lot of details out.

he probably applied for it about 6 months back, returned to spain after finding no work (from the frying pan to the fire) and has now been approved for dole.He probably has no intention of drawing the dole now.

Ok, so he went to social welfare last month and told them that

a/ He lost his job, when is he entitled to dole?
b/ He quit his job, when is he entitled to dole?
c/ He was sacked from his job, when is he entitled to dole?

For a/ he would be entitled to dole 3 weeks after he lost his job but they would have to process his claim, so most recipients sit back and wait for the letter to say that he can now claim.

For b/c, the claimant may lose up to 9 weeks (I think) social welfare entitlement as he willingly gave up/ lost through misconduct his job. So again, claim processed and he waits for the letter.

So him being from somewhere else says feck that, I'm off home, my landlord is a nosy ba$tard anyway.

So you have no right to report him given you don't know his circumstances, and yes you did an illegal thing by opening his post.

before he left, he directed me to open all post directed to him

Nah I don't believe you, I reckon you'd have said so in the OP where you've said you don't even know where he is!

Okay but the letter didn't actually specify what type of welfare he was entitled to?

Secondly, unless you know of his exact circumstances... how can you be sure of what he said to the welfare was fraud?

Obviously the only thing you can do in this situation is adopt a lisp Spanish accent, take daily siestas, learn to fight bulls and claim his dole.

I'm not sure why you should learn to fight bulls for this to work but I smell an even better thread in the future if you do so... TORO!
