The HRM is an independent piece of equipment. It doesn't receive any information. All it does is send a signal, every time it observes a heart-beat, so it doesn't 'know' that you've taken a break, or that your pace has changed. It's more likely that the watch is suffering interference from the overhead electrical wires at the railway crossing, but even that would only be temporary.

Just spent a good half hour trying to get my 405 to upload.
The agent was telling me 'USB Ant Stick: Not active'
Tried all the usual tricks to kick it into action, manual upload, create a new training event, force send, kill the ant agent process and restart it - nothing.
Eventually restarted the laptop because that cures all ills, it came back up still not working.
Really what the agent was trying to tell me was 'USB Ant Stick: Not active BECAUSE THE STICK IS IN YOUR BAG YOU COMPLETE IDIOT!!!'
There are some things even Krusty can't help us with.

i'm doing most of my running on a treadmill at the moment, coming back from an annoying PTT injury, so i'm looking for a foot pod for the 405.
the pace on the treadmill is way off & i want to keep track of milage.
is it accurate & where would one purchase one? see there €70 on wiggle, which seems a bit steep as i dont intend to be using the treadmill as soon as i full recover but could be another 6 weeks.
    thanks

I have used one and I find it accurate to within 1% without doing any calibration in 20/30 uses. Probably best to not calibrate it for the first run and if it's pretty close leave it at that rather than calibrating it. If it's out a lot then go the calibration route. I just know that when I calibrated it then it was wrong but when I left it at 1000 it was fine.

NOTE: when you change the battery you have to turn the back the opposite direction to the arrow to open it.

I've tried, I really have, but is there any way to change the maps from Bing to Google on the player page?

I can change the maps in the preview screen but when I open it in the player, it changes back to Bing which isn't great for Wicklow Sat images

The Garmin Connect team is actively working to roll out the map selection to other areas of the site, including the Player, Course Creator and Explore, which allows you to search 70 million uploaded activities from around the world. In the meantime, these pages will continue to display Bing maps.
Unfortunately, that was posted in 2011.

I've searched the Web and this thread but I can't find any relevant info. I'm trying to send some courses from Garmin Connect to my 910 XT. Garmin Connect detects the device and says that the course have been sent, but nothing appears on the watch. Activities were uploaded automatically as soon as the Ant+ stick was plugged in.
Is there something specific I should be doing ??

It's really a two stage process. Garmin Connect sends the course (workout, or whatever) to your PC first and this is probably when you are getting message that the courses have been sent. The second stage is to get them to your watch. I presume that the ANT Agent is running, and the watch is turned on? :)

Does the watch show activity after you kick off the process? Sometimes, it can take a while, as you may find that data is pushed from the watch to the PC first, during which time data is not being pushed to the watch. Sometimes with the 910xt, I find phantom workout uploads, where it uploads workouts, even when there should be none.

I find that courses are pretty crap on the watch by the way. Perhaps it has improved with firmware updates since I last tried it, but previously, the refresh(draw) rate on the watch was so slow, that you rareely got to see where you should be going. The watch would also spontaneously shut-down.

Yep, both the stick is plugged in and the watch is turned on. Oh, and the computer is plugged in and turned on too :D.
Uploaded activities fine, but no download as yet and watch is showing no activity.

Is the course tracking as bad as, say, a 205/305 ? They were pretty slow on the redraw, but I was using them just as general guidance really most of the time, just to make sure I was on the right track

I have no idea, as I never really used either. Having said that, if I'm out on a run, and I use the [Back to Start] option, it works really, really well (and I have used it on many occasions). The problems seems to be more where you use a course that you create on Garmin Connect, rater than a course you have run previously (or pulled from someone else's Connect page).

    Just FYI

Changes made from version 2.50 to 2.60:
    • Fixed issues causing shutdowns when utilizing courses.
Still can't send a f*ckin' course to my watch, but at least when I do, I might be able to follow it (assuming the ANT stick that won't send a course will actually send an update :D)

Thanks to the help from the nice Garmin tech desk I got it to work. There is a requirement for IE8 & 9 to have various Garmin web addresses to be added to the IE trusted sites. Once that is done the courses download fine. Now to try the software update

Didn't notice this previously, but there's a firmware update for the 910xt to 2.70:

Changes made from version 2.60 to 2.70:

    Elevation improvements:
    1. Improve total ascent/descent values.
    2. Improvements to reduce elevation drift during an activity.
    3. Improvements to reduce spurious changes in elevation.
    4. Improve elevation auto-calibration at power up and between activities.
    5. Improve elevation performance when GPS is turned off.
    6. Improve elevation performance after swimming.
    Foreign language corrections.
    Changes to support manufacturing.

    Link.

All those changes probably translate to the following:

Changes made from version 2.60 to 2.70:
    1. Disabled the barometric altimeter (because it's crap)

For some reason my runs haven't transferred to garmin training centre since October, but if I set the watch to 'other' for a swim that transfers.

Nothing has transferred to garmin connect for a week. Gah.

edit: sorry, I like to use this thread to vent. :pac:

Garmin Connect is foobar'ed at the moment. It seems that only manual uploads are working at the moment. The Garmin folks enjoying a few too many eggnogs at the weekend.

But I sympathize.... If that helps...

I can't even manually upload since it doesn't transfer runs to the computer any more. Have even tried downloading the run once it goes on to connect and transferring it to training centre from there but that doesn't work anymore either

Might just set up 'other' as my run workouts and change them to runs once they transfer?

Did you get sorted yet? I haven't been able to upload anything this last couple of days. Still fails at the last second even this morning.

Did you try uploading manually? Connect has had server issues for the last few days and the manual upload seems to be the only work-around.

I haven't, because I don't know what you're talking about. Short of putting my watch into the cd drive how do I do that?

Here are instructions from the support folk at Garmin. Alternatively, you could just wait until they fix the problems:

    Link to manual upload instructions.

Actually worked for me today, although it failed when transferring "goals". Didn't know I had any goals set up but there you go. Anyway, looks like I got lucky this time, so I'll keep this in mind for the next time as it still seems to be fcuked. Cheers KC

Manual upload still not even working for me.

From reading the forum and the facebook page some people just get through by sheer luck. Tempted to just do a hard reset and see if that works. Has worked before but may not have been the same issue.

Read something today on another forum ( yes, they do exist!) about the latest Garmin Connect update blocking uploads to Training Peaks. Anyone else information or experiences of this?

If it were true, there's nothing to stop someone from doing a manual upload to training peaks, unless Garmin were to update the firmware on all their devices to a format that is not compatible with training peaks (highly unlikely). Sounds like just a Garmin development f***up.

Can anyone recommend a good (cheap!) heart rate monitor for the 310xt? Thanks

Hi Weetabix, you can use any of the Garmin Ant+ HR straps with the 310xt. There's not a huge range of choice. There's the old type rigid strap, or the new type premium strap. Results are about the same (generally pretty poor). I doubt you'll see much variety in price between the various online shops, so Amazon.co.uk is probably as good as any other place to pick one up.

Thanks Krusty, was looking at that one on amazon alright but don't know much about them so wanted to make sure I got the correct one!
