They will surely be out for another inspection now at half time. Might be cancelled yet.

Do Connaught have the wind at their backs or anything in the second half ?

stuck in their own half for the first 40 minutes

That's what I was told on an IRFU reffing course. For fear of players being forced face down in standing water.

As lologram says, and as I suspected, a game shouldn't go ahead with puddles on the field. Had a J1 game called off because of it last year. Methinks other forces than the ref may be at play here

Browne and McKeon tackling like men possessed

Good to hear the Connacht crowd being vocal- rather disappointing French turnout..
I liked the "There's only 1 Mike McCarthy" chant at the start :D

    Yachvili running the show.

Game really shouldn't have gone ahead though, asking for serious injuries.

I think you can play with puddles, but as soon as there's a ruck in a puddle it's blown up immediately and a scrum is awarded to the team with the ball.

In fairness, Sky don't give a shyt about Connacht usually, can't imagine they'd be too put out if it was cancelled tonight.

His break from taking that high ball standing in a 'lake' was something else! Guy needs to be thrown into Ireland A level, I think they are playing England during the Six Nations.

That team could involve a few Connacht players, I'd imagine Henshaw, TOH, Marmion and McSharry all have good chance of being involved.

The weekend before the 6N starts. Game is in the Sportsground. Would be nice to have a decent Connacht contingent

My take is that the refs are told to try to avoid calling off a game if it's a borderline case. As in, only call it off if all else fails. It's probably just understood from the ERC that they don't like the idea of postponements. I wouldn't say it is directly out of fear of what Sky would say. It's expensive and annoying for the teams, Sky and the ERC though. They wouldn't play again the next day so they'd have to wait until Sunday which costs everybody money.

Also, Sky would probably just consider packing up and going home and not televising it. Remember the Stade Francais vs Ulster game in Belgium which was called off due to snow? They had to relocate to Paris and Sky just gave up on the idea of showing it again IIRC.

Rules say the game has to be rescheduled within 48 hours or the home team forfeits afaik

I can't see conditions getting much better over the rest of the weekend in Biarritz so calling the game off before the 60 is awarding the game to Connacht

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 5,442 ✭✭✭its_phil

That was a penalty for Connacht

Very unlikely sky are involved in the broadcast, just getting feed from French tv

Indeed that's what I was saying about having to play on the Sunday because they wouldn't play on the Saturday and it would have to be within 2 days. That means a lot of expense for everybody concerned and my hunch is that the refs are just told to avoid that if it all possible, even if the pitch is in a terrible state.

Ref seems a bit wiser to Biarritz this half. Connacht get a couple penalties and they are back in action.

    Gotta score em though.
