its funny how us Irish think this is perfectly acceptable. just go at your own pace is the answer, you dont have to do a rounds system. dont give into peer pressure

Im no stranger to the odd binge session ,but unless youve had a few drinks the few nights before youre asking for trouble.

There's generally no round system and you can't drink at your own pace because the pace is set by the time you have in each pub. It's a one off messfest for the year and anyone that goes knows what they're getting themselves into.

I'm going on Saturday with my girlfriend and her stupid friends who have decided to corrupt the noble tradition by having "a half" in each pub i.e. six measly pints. In the interests of heroism and legend I will be having the full pint in each; probably ending in a giant domestic, puke everywhere and a few serious backhands being thrown.

Twelve pints is no joke like, I've managed it before many a time but it's all the more difficult when done in set times and I believe the open air while travelling from pub to pub makes you even more wrecked from pub 8 onwards. A feed is a must, no two ways about it. I would suggest a complete and heavy meal of complex carbs such as wholemeal pasta, spuds (high GI but good nonetheless) and a large amount of protein such as a chicken breast. Serve with a blast of veg with some milk. Eat this two hours before the session.

As for supplements etc, bugger that. You're going to be an absolute f*cking heap no matter what you do and there's no two ways about that. Not when you're drinking twelve pints within a time anyway. Grab a small munch around dinner time, I get famished after a feed of pints and an auld burger will stand to you toward the end. Most end up on the shorts after around 7 pints.

When you go home whatever you do eat something, anything. Kebab, chicken whatever, it'll save you the absolute death feeling. Also skull two pints of water and bring plenty more to bed with you, another two pints.

Cancel all appointments for the next day.

    Best of luck.

I always find taking some Vitamin C tablets handy the day before or after. Possibly before you go to sleep.

Our rules state that you can turn to shots on pub 10.
    So 9 pints, 3 shots

Have some food but nothing too heavy just before you start. A decent sandwich with protein in it, cheese or tuna. Don't stuff yourself or you will feel bloated. Have a bag of crisps every 2 pints and drink water in between pubs. After 6 or 7 stop and have something a bit more substantial like a bag of chips then drink a pick-me-up like a red bull or something and you'll be right as rain for 6 more.

Really don't see the big deal about this 12 pub business, course the air will make ya feel more hammered but don't be going on the journey if ya can't handle it.....ofcourse its hilarious to always have one lad who can't handle their drink and ends up pukin everywhere but seriously 12 pints in a set time...you'll be grand

I'm a fan of the booze but twelve pints would have me in serious trouble in a short space of time.

Pop a couple of Nurofen before heading out. If you get arrested later you will have a free 'get out of jail card'.

Drink a good beer like Staropramen or Erdinger, chances are you wont feel as rough the next day if you were to drink shight like Bud or Coors.

Budweiser is 4.3% alc and Erdinger is 7.3%.
It would make a big difference over twelve pints.

Perhaps I'll be the black sheep, but does it have to be a "big day of drinking"? Would it be possible to simply drink less? Getting drunk has nothing to do with having fun, even less with being a real man, and, certainly, doesn't make the evening any better.
