Received a letter from Bridal Outlet today advising they have gone into voluntary liquidation!!
Am buying my dress & two bridesmaids dresses with them!! Am so stressed. Have been advised that all orders will be honoured but im so scared that theyll pack up and disappear before my big day & take all my money with them. Customers will be way down the pecking order of people due to get money back i reckon. So dont need this stress :(

It;s just horrible having this hanging over me, I was already let down with one shop so had to rush order another dress with the Bridal Outlet and now this happens !

My o/h got her dress there. Luckily he took it with her when she bought it though so it'd appear we just need to find someone else to do the alterations.

So glad right now that I have wedding insurance! Also so glad that I told them a date way before my actual wedding date and my dress is due in just around Christmas, would be hysterical if I thought I had to wait 6-9 months just hoping I got my dress.

The one who does the alterations is really good . She is not part of bridal outlet she runs her own company which is why we pay her seperateky she just uses the place

I will have to get them off my sister she used her but bridal outlet will also give you her number. So stressed my dress was paid in full except for twenty five euro.

So sorry to hear of this. Must be a nightmare...

Have any of you got wedding insurance? Should be able to claim from that.

Also - how were the dresses paid for? If it's a credit card, then you can request a chargeback. Similarly, if a Visa debit was used for payment a chargeback can also be requested.

    Hope this helps someone.

I dont have any insurance and unfortunately I paid in cash. Did extra work to pay for the dress. They said my dress will be in at the end of feb so im hoping they are being truthful. They also told me they are still taking orders and all previous orders are being honoured. My sister got her dress there two years ago and they all seem genuinely nice so fingers crossed it all works out. Mcelhinneys went through something similar last year and they are still going

I would get insurance ASAP. That is a priority.

But I don't understand. Is the shop in administration or liquidation? From the sounds of it, it's admin which would explain why the shop is still taking orders, and there might be no need to panic if the administrators think the business is a going concern and are looking for a buyer. If it's liquidation, then the shop is insolvent (i.e is no longer a going concern and is insolvent) and shouldn't be taking further orders. I would double-check the status if I were you.

It says voluntary liquidation on the letter but when I rang them they said they would still be taking orders . My friend was going to go with them.

Something's not right here. I would get advice from Citizen's Information now. And definitely tell your mate NOT to go there!!

Yep letter says voluntary liquidation. This is precisely why I paid with credit card and got insurance!

I paid for all deposits with credit card, just in case, you never know what business can close down while looking fine. I was in their Athlone store before I was in Baldoyle and that place had limited opening hours and one staff member, I knew that one wasn't doing well so I wasn't taking any chances. It closed down soon afterwards, but I was still happy to go with Baldoyle (again a lot of that was because I knew I had credit card and insurance as security).

AFAIK Voluntary liquidation means they don't see the business as being viable into the future and want to wind it up before it gets out of hand, current customers should be OK if they're being responsible.

I hope so :) all I want is my dress Il take it as soon as it comes in and get alterations done somewhere. Have to wait until end of feb to find out though hopefully they will know in Jan when it should arrive.

Had a sit down with the lady who has taken over the bridal orders today. I couldn't hold it in and I was crying like a baby (state of me!)
She basically said that she has personally taken over the bridal orders end of things and has given a personal guarantee that each and every order will be honoured. She has separated all these from the rest of the business in order to honour all brides etc. She gave me the supplier name, name and designer of my dress, dress code and told me to go and check with the supplier to make sure that they are working together to get my dresses made and me looked after. I will be ringing them first thing. It calmed me down a bit.
Its a hassle and a stress that no bride needs in the run up to a wedding. What I didn't like was the fact that on a Monday morning I was greeted by this letter advising that they had gone into liquidation. They said all orders will still be processed and all dresses will be delivered as usual. Nothing else to go on only that....like the expected us to go "ah well alright then, just cos you say it in a letter doesn't mean to say we call by the shop after Xmas and you'll still be there"... I was fuming all day today and was completely drained. I hope this isn't the start of things to come.... :(

I am the exact same been crying about it. I am just trusting her now that she means what she says. I might do what you are doing and get the dressmaker details etc

Yep will do, I rang again this morning to be assured all was ok & business was as normal. I did however email the Insolvency Union and they told me they we shouldn't rely on the promise of a corporate entity that is entering a liquidation promise and that I should contact the National Consumers agency which I did and am awaiting reply!!

Oh God girls that's awful I can only imagine how stressful this must be - I hope everything turns out ok

Nicole Marso is the lady who does the alterations for the bridal outlet. She also makes wedding dresses that are sold out of a bridal shop in London, and really knows her stuff. I got my bridesmaid dress in BO and she did the alterations - I wouldn't hesitate to recommend her and the price was reasonable too

I feel bad for the staff, I'd say they are up to their eyes in panicked brides. Just filed the liquidation letter into my wedding folder along with my TBO contract and wedding insurance, lol.

As it's a voluntary liquidation rather than an enforced closure I really wouldn't be panicking tbh.

They seem to be going about closing the business in an orderly fashion and are communicating with customers, these are good signs that they'll follow through on their promises.

Contacted the Consumers Agency before I went down to the Bridal Outlet on Monday and sought advice. I gave her all the details etc. I told her I had been down with the BO two weeks ago to pick out bridesmaids dresses and to pay off more off my own gown. I paid nearly €600 that day. She asked did they ever mention anything to do with liquidation and I said no. They happily went ahead and took my money. She said that we entered into a contract when purchasing our gowns and now they have broken that contract by entering into liquidation so we are legally allowed to get a full refund. She said act quickly as they could be gone tomorrow. She said we could ask for our money back but will probably be told no and then we are left with the choice of court proceedings. I went to the BO armed with this information and spoke to Margaret ( I think her name is?) and she basically said we could try get our money back but we are way down the pecking order of people who would be looking to get their money back and we might not get it. This is when I cried!
I told her that I've lost all confidence in the company and I wanted my money back. She said that if I entered into talks with the liquidators, and if I even got that far, about getting my money back, then this is where our contract ends and I would be left high and dry. I got very annoyed at this. I found her quite unsympathetic and a bit rude to be honest. I can't afford to go looking to get my money back via District Court proceedings aswell as go looking for a new dress and having to fork out for a new dress. I have no alternative but to put my trust in them. I did calm down and felt better when she offered the designers details etc but I still think the whole sorry affair could have been dealt with a whole lot better. I still feel sick thinking about it.
