The receptionist who put through a prank call at the hospital treating the Duchess of Cambridge is understood to have committed suicide.

The woman, was the first to pick up the phone to the Australian DJs pretending to be the Queen and Prince Charles, and put the call through to the nurse caring for the Duchess.

Sky News' Crime Correspondent Martin Brunt said: "It does appear that the receptionist who put the original call through has been found dead, thought to be suicide."

This was a real wtf moment

That is tragic. She makes a mistake at work which she probably got slaughtered for it and saw no other way out. Poor woman. :(

I can only imagine this was the absolute worst timing possible for this girl and that she was unable to get any kind of perspective on the matter. Taking your life over a prank call, very sad.

I wasn't aware there was any kind of prank call.

I'm sure they'd rather pass on condolences and then question her peer group or local media if any pressure was forced upon her due to a simple mistake.

    Christ, that's awful...

Can't imagine what those DJ's will be going through over the next while. You just know the internet will seek them out and blame them for this.

    RIP.

What is even more tragic than her death is that someone is bound to be posting here shortly with a stupid attempt at something funny. Yes it is After Hours but there is nothing funny about someone dying, no matter how it happened

C'mon! How on earth were they supposed to know?

And it's not different to what our own DJ's do (albeit on a slightly smaller scale) which you and a million other people who will feign outrage laugh at in the mornings.

    That's very sad.

Sure sign of how much work or a mistake at work can hamper someones life.

    It's already happened in AH.

I expect calls for their resignation by 4pm GMT.

It definitely sounds like that to me. There must've been something else going on with her. I can't imagine many people committing suicide over just a prank call.

Too damn right. It doesn't require much skill to bull**** a busy hotel / hospital receptionist especially when the worlds media are sat on the doorstep. That pair of kangaroos should be winging it to a dole queue.

RIP to the lady in question.

There has to be something more to this. If not then the world just keeps surprising me everyday. People are very strange.

    RIP.

Too right, and the media in general....she made an honest mistake, but the Aussie guys knew what they were doing and set things in motion......

    .....cause and effect

This story highlights how ****ed up the world is, the press, the public and the palace made her feel terrible and she took her life. So sad.

My initial reaction would be "and good riddance too".
On reflection, I'd still be thinking it's time for them to hang up their prank call antics.

Just think what this poor girl went though in the last few days, positively ridiculed all over the place, and not thinking there was any end to it.

    No they bloody well don't.

They made a prank phone call for their radio show. Probably one of hundreds they've done in their careers. This is in no way their fault.

    Feel sorry for the DJs.

girl gets prank call by radio station on royal baby

Royals not happy, complain to hospital

Hospital give her the most almighty bollocking possible (maybe worse wiht possible disciplinary action ahead)

    Girl commits suicide

    --

I've filled in what I think has happened, and there might be even more personal stuff there. I don't really think that needs to be analysed too deeply tbh.

If the girl has committed suicide that has been triggered by a prank call, then its a complete tragedy.

Bullying, in whatever form, usually has consequences.

I cant say I have much sympathy for them. If they had left her be they wouldnt be in this situation.

If a schoolkid made a prank call like this they'd have got a kick in the arse for it

I don't see how, they can't be held responsible for the weakness of mind of a person. Pranks are carried out everyday. This wasn't concerted bullying or intimidation.

It may have more to do with the make up of some English people that believe that the Royal family are some kind of deities.

    Poor woman.

Rip to the poor girl . People blaming the djs are stupid eejits . It was a joke how did they know thisll happen .

I feel sorry for the DJ`s they must be feeling pretty horrible now. There had to be more going on with her for a prank to drive her to suicide. I imagine the Daily Mail and their ilk will go after the DJ`s without a trace of irony.

Its one thing ringing something like a pet shop or DIY store to make a prank call but to ring a hospital is a different story.

The DJ's should have had more sense obviously they weren't expecting anything to come from it but their call still took up some of the nurses time which could have been spent elsewhere where it was needed.

You just don't go ringing doctors, hospitals, emergency services etc on prank calls. I hope those DJ's get some kind of backlash because the least it will do will be teach others not to be so stupid. /rant

jesus that's horrible - the poor woman was given world attention she didn't want and couldn't handle it, RIP. I dunno, there's so many horrific stories at the moment,i'm getting worn down by it all. I think it's time I tune out for a while.
