think I'll get my mom an ereader for Xmas. is the Kindle the best of the bunch? pdf compatibility would be top of the priorities.

Might want to consider a Nexus 7 then. PDF is pretty much a no-go on my kindle touch. Backlit tablet screens aint all that hard on the eyes. Sure Kindle has a backlit model now. Im getting rid if my touch for a nexus.

the backlit kindle is nothing like a tablet screen

I live in korea mate wanna pop round for it? :P

Depending on how much she is going to need .PDF support, a tablet might be your only choice. Nexus is quite cheap. A backlit tablet screen is gonna strain as much as a backlit e-ink screen, its still light shooting into your eye balls. I read the entirety of The Jungle Book on an iPad, felt no discomfort whatsoever.

I read that older model Kindle Keyboard models are actually far better with .PDF; its the software that gimped it for the Kindle Touchs'; maybe look into that avenue? :)

@Tea. I've got the Kindle 4 (non-keyboard, non-backlight version) and I love it. I might use a backlight, though I'm not sure how much. The touch Kindle is actually very nice to use, but I'm not sure I want my "book" to be touch sensitive. Like being able to hold/pick up/grab the thing any which way and not worry about it. The Paperwhite (backlit version) isn't supposed to be like an LCD though. Supposedly Amazon but a lot of effort into making it easy on the eyes, though I haven't verified this for myself yet.

@Shadow: You can fill the SSD up as much as you like; they're not like hard drives in that respect.

I dont know i remember a balance patch with only one fix in it being 1.6gb

how the **** does changing numbers in the weapons database and a fix that didnt work (TV Missles) use that much space

I'd imagine it's something to do with how everything is stored, etc. Like if they have to update one number in one table, they have to replace an entire .cab file that all the stats are stored in.

I could understand 200-300+mb patches but when you release a patch that is 10% of the original game size you should really be asking questions of your programming team

I'd imagine stuff like this would be left to the higher-ups; I can't see programmers doing stuff this silly.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 22,924 ✭✭✭✭ShadowHearth

Now wait for a month and they will be doing optimisation patch again... Might lower install size by 50mb ...

Ya thats definitely the problem they also let the guy that was responsible for balancing all the previous BF pc games go and re hired him because bf3 was a ****ing mess

No mod tools also doesnt help. Its taken a year for pro mod to make an appearance and its still a few months away if ever from being complete

You mean 2312hm! And my **** I would give those for 60 quid!

Nah, just at work two monitors poped. Not even getting powered up at all. So I was thinking to offer my oldy LG, because I will be getting 1440p anyway.

I don't want to sound spoiled, but the idea of going only 2 monitor, until I get my new monitor is scaring my ****lessly. You get used to it so damn quick!

No, there is such a thing as a 2311. ;)

For anyone interested, there's a GPU/CPU review of Far Cry 3. This one is the only one I've found that uses the newest drivers though: 12.11 AMD and 310.70 NVIDIA.

Good news, my 660ti looks like itll perform well. Is it a 'way its meant to be played' title? A 2gb 680 watches the frame rate of the 3gb equivalent ATI card.
