God, spent the whole day doing nothing and I really do need to get this essay done and dusted. It just seems like I'm actually frightened to do the essay in case it's crap!:pac:

Firstly, badly needing a new laptop.
Secondly, what's in the past, should stay in the past. Getting myself wound up over nothing. :(

Are they trying to run us out of the country? :( No job = no money. No education = no job. I am sick of living in this depressing hellhole! College fees rising, impossible to get a job, grants being cut, yet the people who caused this mess still get a fantastic lifestyle. I hate politicians, I hate this country and I am dreading staying here for at least another year.

Fix the god damn country and put the money where it needs to be.

Not as easy as just "fixing the country" overnight. Will take a long time to get out of the mess FF put us in :(

And FG and LAB are determined to make it worse.

Budget today was a ****ing joke. Little/no stimulus. No talk of creating jobs. Just cut income and increase taxes.

Cutting child benefit across the board? A bloody 2-year old could tell you that that's a stupid idea. Just means test the bloody thing.

Over 70's earning >1500euro a week have their medical cards taken, but are still given GP visit cards. **** 'em. If you're earning >1500 a week you can bloody well afford to pay to visit your GP.

Cutting ~300,000 Home Help hours? That's just going to force people into nursing homes needlessly, causing further burden on their families and the state.

No cuts to minister's salaries? They earn ~40k more than their French counterparts FFS! TD's get an extra 9k for chairing a committee! Junior Ministers get something like an extra 15k!

Ministers breaking their own caps on earnings to pay their special advisers? Joan Burton, our social protection minister pays her speicla adviser in the region of 100k!

Adding taxes to coal, fags, alcohol, maternity benefit...

And we're supposed to swallow that this budget is fair? My bollox.

It's fine to trot out the old "Ah shur, FF put us here!" line, but FG/LAB have had what? 18 months in government? And has there been any improvement? Not really. We're still in a hole with no sign of ever getting out of it.

    /rant. Sorry. :(

EDIT I'm not a member of a political party, just bored on study week and fancied playing devils advocate :P

The country is reducing our deficit steadily. That's an enormous improvement, we've made it back to the bond markets. The decisions are being made by the Troika not the coalition. The budget today wasn't good to anyone. That's the fairest part of it tbh.

Not trying to defend some of the huge salaries but ministers did already take a pay cut when they took power. I'd agree the wage is still too high though.

Stimulus costs money, something we don't have much of at the moment. Things could be so much worse though. Our university fees are only a fraction of other countries.

I don't know what people expect really. Personally I'd love a non austerity budget but for the next couple of years that's all we have.

Im guessing the next government is going to be sinn fein then? Ultimately we're the ones who voted in fine gael and labour so we cant really complain when they are basically the same as Fianna fail.

The decisions aren't being made by the Troika. The Troika want the deficit down, they don't care how we do it. The government are virtually free to do whatever they want.

I expected austerity, I did. And I would have nothing against austerity if it was:

    a) Fair.
    b) balanced out with ANYTHING SUBSTANTIAL to help grow jobs.

But it was wholly unfair, and does nothing to create real jobs in the economy. Sure, you could argue that it was unfair to everyone, but it's going to hit low and middle income families worse than higher earners (there's tonnes of examples that tbh I can't be arsed typing out), and that's what I can't stomach about it.

    *sigh*

But it's pointless whining really. It'll be passed by the sheepback benchers, and we'll have another year of watching the numbers on the live register grow, while simultaeneously watching more and more people getting on planes and boats.

Jaysis, it's gotten very political in here. :P

Ideally I would have liked to have seen a Fine Gael / Fianna Fáil coalition but apparently it's still to early to "mention the war"!!!

Sinn Féin as a one party government? Not a chance. Possibly the smaller party in a coalition. Though, it's hard for me to picture them in government yet for a while.

They don't stand a chance until GA is gone tbh. Still too much ill feeling out there.

When people like Pearse Doherty and Mary Lou are the leaders they'll stand a real chance. But not until then IMO.

If I ever graduate and grow a set of testicles I'm buggering off to Finland or Canada. Never coming back to this pit.

Which is something I never thought I'd say. :(

I'm still not exactly sure that they're a viable alternative though, but maybe that's just me and my preferences.

I'm the exact same. Seriously contemplating moving to Canada next year once the accountancy exams are done. I still love this country but there are good opportunities elsewhere, better than there are here.

They say our exports are well up at the moment, I wonder does that include people? :(

People who drink straight out of the milk/coke bottle. I've huge issues with this. I don't care if we're family. It makes me feel physically sick.

Need my own mini fridge. :(

When you think about it, how can the likes of Eamon Gilmore understand the stress and hardship people are under when the combined salary of him and his wife is 300,000 a year? And I know people use the argument that 'How FG and Labour inherited this and it wasn't their fault' - I'm sorry were they not in opposition when FF where spending ridiculous amounts of money? Could they not have said something?

I can't see how budgets like this are going to make the economy grow. What really annoyed me though was the fees going up. It'll be the situation of only those who can afford it will go to college! How is that going to help the economy? And weren't loads of economists saying that this kind of approach would never work? God now I'm ranting :o Sorry!!

Arrgh: Got no sleep last night! Blah! :( Prime condition for ranting though!:pac:

Rain, shoo, go away! :( God why can't I just knuckle down and focus? 'If I get x done then I've loads of time to do whatever else I want' But I just can't do it (Bad excuse I know) but I'm convinced I have something besides laziness:o. I end up doing nothing all day and then I've no time to relax! Ugh, I hate myself sometimes.

One of my so-called "Mates" is now going out with my ex. And they both expect me to not care. Twats.

It's not that I want them to die, its just that if they got hit by a bus it wouldn't be the worst thing.
