You'll need to revert to a stock recovery. You'll invariably find the details on how to do this in the rooting guide you used.

Thanks for the quick reply mate! :D

Got my nexus yesterday and loving it, still tweaks to be made re flash and I may have to visit here again! But I have a potentially stupid question. I have read all this thread, (great btw), and I read concerns over installing 4.2....I am getting requests to update, is it ok to do it now or should I stay on 4.1 a little longer??

Picked one up for my son for Xmas the other day. It's a nifty little thing. I'm well impressed. I had a mess around with it to make sure it was working ok before I put it away for Xmas. It's taking all I have not to open it up again for another look. I'd love one for myself just need to find a good reason for a 7inch tab :-)

Can highly recommend http://www.liquidsmooth.net/ for the Nexus 7 (and indeed the Galaxy S3 and other devices) :)

Hi guys, is there such a thing as an ethernet to micro usb cable?

My eircom modem is beside my PC at the other end of the house and the wireless isnt great for streaming when im in the living room or kitchen, usually only 1 or maybe 2 bars of signal strength.
Ive tried an older moden and the signal was a lot stronger but that modem kept losing wifi connection every few hours for no reason.
I have a set of those power adapter thingys that plug into a socket and get broadband through in the living room and maybe could live with an ethernet to micro usb cable if there is such a thing.

Im also wondering if i bought a good router would it improve things?

I just got a wireless repeater on Amazon and it's worked a treat. Cheap enough too - think about €30 delivered. I know people say they are a crap solution but if it's jsut a device or two picking it up it should be fine.

Definitely don't get a repeater, get an access point since you already have homeplugs. Repeaters use the same medium as your existing wireless router therefore will half the throughput of your wireless network. Set the access point up with the same SSID and encryption as the existing wireless and your phone will roam.

Thanks for that, will this replace my existing eircom bog standard zylex modem and just improve wifi around the house or do you mean i should put it where i have the broadband power adapter yoke in the living room?

I had an older eircom modem and i connected it up to the adapter in living room and tried to run wifi off it , all was fine with fast wife but back down the other end of the house where PC and bb modem was the connection just didnt seem as good [ethernet here btw]

No, Use the homeplugs to connect it to your existing router and place it in the blackspot area to extend your wireless network. You need to be very careful that you pick a channel well away from the existing wireless (5 away). Use inSSIDer on your laptop or get wifi analyser on your phone to see what channels are in use nearby. The 3 non-overlapping channels are 1, 6 and 11.

You could possbily use the Eircom modem you have lying about as an access point, to do this you need to disable DHCP, but get it configured before you do as you will not be able to access it again without a static ip. Also disable the firewall and uPnP. Like before give it the same SSID and encryption as your existing wireless router

Ok, bit of a strange request, but for all you nexus 7 owners, would any of ye be willing to send me an empty nexus 7 box. I want to play a joke on my wife for Christmas. I told her that instead of buying her a present, I would buy myself a nexus 7 and then her present would be to see my happy face :) I would then put her real present inside the nexus 7 box.
So is there anyone there willing to help me annoy my wife on Christmas morning

Tell on! I've never flashed my Nexus 7 yet. Finding it laggy since the 4.2 update so am interested in flashing now. What improvements does it bring?

Can't see a SGS2 version of this out yet though! Getting bored of current ROm on phone! :D

Is it possible to have multiple user accounts on nexus 7?

  • Banned (with Prison Access) Posts: 16,659 ✭✭✭✭dahamsta

4.2 comes with it by default. Just accept the ota upgrade if you don't have it already, then add another user under settings. User changing is a bit laggy, but they'll get there.

Ok, so I got one of these for the little guy (they really are nice), and would like to rip his dvds for him to watch on it.
Any heads up on the "ideal free dvd ripper" for the job.
    Thanks in advance.

This is what I got, fantastic cover, it is very similar to the official one I had for a Motorola Xoom.

Any decent screen protectors? I bought Terrapin ones and they last a couple of weeks before I need to change because of smudges and scrapes.

Just wondering what's people's opinion on reading a book or comic on the Nexus 7?

Had originally planned on getting the Nexus 10 but I'm finding it too much fidling around to order it and it's nearly twice the price.

Thinking about it the main thing I want a tablet for is for reading books and browsing the net. Always thought a 10 inch screen would be better with regards to reading books.

Have the 7 so can't comment on the 10. Find its great for reading books, small and light with excellent screen resolution.

Just back from Argos with my shiny new Nexus 7 32GB. Good value for 240e & also got a 10e free voucher back :D Plenty in stock too for anyone looking.

Now I just need a good light case which can act as a stand. Any suggestions?
